RE: "YOUR PERFECT COMP"

Sideshow, thanks for the input from the other side.  I already knew that some video production companies are the ones that aren't allowing video taping, but it's not like the competition company has nothing to do with it - don't hire those video people.

I didn't realize that some venues wouldn't allow other food or food stands, that's too bad.

I also knew that if the spectators get in free, the kids admission fees are higher.  That's fine with me, then the grandparents and aunts get to come.  However, if they are charging I don't mind paying $10-12, but companies are starting to charge $15-20 for just a regional.

I am not a fan of free admission competitions. When admission is free reg fees go up by an average of $20 which effects my price for each all star year. Raising it by an average of $180 per year. (none of which goes in my pocket) Making me look like I'm gouging my customer.

I would rather a comp charge $20 extra for my child to perform than have to pay $60 to have myself, husband, daughter, mom-in-law and two sister-in-laws watch, especially when all but me would only come to watch the 2.5 minute routine.  AND that's at $10 per spectator, which doesn't seem to be the norm this year.

I agree I'd rather pay the extra competition costs and save money in the long run.  The cost of admission can be $15.00 dollars or more.  If I remember right Vegas last year was $20.00.  That can kill you at a two day competition.  You add that up with the cost of travel, hotels, etc., it can get pretty expensive.    If it was explained to most parents in these terms I think they would agree.

I agree with you, BUT you also have to take into account that there are a lot of parents who don't go to every single competition...or families where only the mom goes to the cheer comp, and maybe dad goes to the son's soccer game...etc. So while it may benefit those who take a large family to every competition, it's really a penalty for those who don't. It seems to me the most "fair" way to assess that fee is at the door - charge those who attend, and don't charge those who don't.

I do have to say I like the way Athletic Championships runs their events. The concessions have good healthy options (I saw salads, sandwiches, smoothies, juice) and I REALLY like how they split up their sessions. It's nice that they do it by level so that the level 1 Tinys don't have a 12-hour day waiting for their awards. The way they were laid out made sense (Jamz drives me insane with their awards - "First division, level 4 junior....second division...level 2 mini...etc" there's no rhyme or reason to it), they went by level and then by age.

I totally agree with you Tamara.  It's a no brainer.  The problem is that only 10% of our customer base is anywhere near as savy as you are when it comes to the cost of competitive cheerleading.

If I say at info meetings in april that the cost to be an All Star cheerleader has gone up by $200 due to the inflation of Reg fees that is all the customer will care about.  The $200!!!!  Telling them they'll save money on free admission to some comps will not ease the blow to the average customer.

It's a tough one.
