I'm curious about All Star Elite too, don't recall seeing them yet. I recall at Jamz in San Francisco, watching the senior level 4 teams... Starstruck won, Cheer Xplosion came in 2nd, Roseville came in 3rd. I enjoyed all three routines. I think Roseville's stunts are creative but where they are weak is in their tumbling, which will hopefully get stronger as the season progresses. Just my observation (not trying to be negative). I don't know how others feel but I always like to hear criticism of our gym and teams (as long as it's constructive). It's good to know what areas appear lacking to others.
Regarding USA, we are not going to any this year and I also (like another post said) will not miss it. Errors and inconsistency in their scoring is one reason we stay away, but also it seems like it's a competition for youth and school teams. Not many all star teams attend. We like to come in first too, but it's not much fun when it's against nobody. Too many other well attended competitions to choose from.
Our problems were like others experienced - scoring was wildly inconsistent, and we went through a whole fiasco at Nationals (the last USA competition we ever attended) where they couldn't consistently interpret their own legality rules. We used a stunt sequence the entire year, at all of their regionals, and were never docked for illegalities and then on the warm-up floor at Nationals, it was suddenly deemed illegal...depending on who we spoke with from USA. Granted, that was back before USASF and the rules we have now that are much clearer, but it left a sour taste in our mouths and we haven't been back and don't miss it.
There are plenty of quality competitions to choose from for a team's season. It's actually finally gotten to the point in California (after years of us all complaining about our lack of options!) that there are so many good competitions that it's hard to choose.
Yea I totally agree USA has got toget it together. With the fiasco divas experienced at usa nationals, we as well as 3 other teams had that issue with jamz nationals in las vegas. It was ridiculous that we competed with the same thing in all their regionals and at nationals they were inconsistant. Our gym has decided to only compete at 1 jamz comp just to get prepared. We aren't going to nationals. A first in MANY years.
I love Athletic, GSSA and american (even though they didnt have jackets there!) They are always organized and make comps fun for the girls!
What about Americas Best? I think this year it has started slipping. At the Sac Regionals the seating was horrible, they had no freebies as in years passed and it just didn't have that same wow that it did last year and the year before. GSSA now that is just a whole other ball game. I think the scoring is really inconsistent and the venue is horrible. I am really upset that they are using the same venue as regionals for the Super Sis. There is no way that is even safe. I think people should write letters to Tammy and let her know that the venue should change. It is a safety hazard.
I used to really enjoy GSSA but that would have been maybe 3 years ago. They used to be all about the kids, with the free back packs, everyone got medallions and shirts, etc.
Sure it has always been at the same venue, i believe, which really SUCKS. Especially when you have large squads! And team support.
IMO USA has been very inconsistent with their scoring. We were with another squad the last couple years and they always seemed to play the favoritism card.. And I know for a fact that it doesn't help to have the judges be part coaching staff for the other squads. Oh well, what can you do.. You do it for the children and hope they have fun, but when it starts affecting them and they know they are being judged unfairly then somethings wrong.
cheerwatcher wrote: thanks so much! I cant believe what a small turnout it was. Looks like the "more well known" teams competed against eachother; roseville, CO, Sac. But other than that the teams were limited to competition. I'm interested to see who All Star Elite is? To be honest, I'm just wondering how they look because Ive seen Roseville's Senior routine and they have got a lot of difficulty, especially that pyramid! Also, Sac's senior 4 team was pretty good last year.. But i saw that all star elite won. Did any of the odyssey parents have any views or maybe people from another gym?
I REALLY enjoyed watching All Star Elite this weekend. I noticed them at GSSA because of their uniforms but this weekend I REALLY noticed them because of their routines. A co-worker and I were talking about them Monday monrning as her daughter (who cheers somewhere ohter than mine) went up againt one of their teams this weekend. They looked good.... IMO
At GSSA All Star Elite took 4th in Sr 4 division. Did anyone attend both and see significant difference or improvement of their team at USA vs GSSA? Does anyone have video? Maybe this is one of those teams that no one is mentioning that we should keep our radar screen on.
Here is their website, or at least I think this is the team. They are from Eldorado County which is in the Sacramento area, right?

My sister in law works for USA and if she knew that her nieces were going to be in that competition she would not judge for that competition. I know that if USA knew that they wouldn't agree with that. I'll have to ask my sister in law about that!!
I just think that their competitions are boring. A lot of people don't like JAMZ but I think at least they're entertaining the crowd between teams going on and while the judges are taking breaks.

Yes I really do like how they entertain the crowd. I was a little surprised this year not to see the black gentleman that usuallyis there. I wonder if he still is affiliated with JAMZ, anyone know?

I guess .. I just looked at the pictures from GSSA online and they were wearing pants, all red.
Yes that's them.
They are a gym owned by the same owner of gymstars. They have grown in the last couple years, as gymstars squads have gone down. I belive they also have another gym too in Modesto. Have to go check it out (internet surfing here i come)
