NCE and Lauren

Has anyone heard any updates on Lauren from NCE? I heard she had to have surgery. Our prayers are with her and her family. Will they be able to travel back to California or are they going to be having Christmas in Vegas? I would love to send flowers if anyone knows what hospital she is in.

I don't know how long they will be there but presumably it will be at least a few days, since I'm sure the surgery wasn't minor. She is at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas for those who want to send flowers or a card.

Lauren went in for surgery right when she got to the hospital..She broke her fibia and tibia...and I heard she broke her femur too but I'm not sure if that's correct. But basically she is out for the rest of the season. Our prayers are with her and we appreciate your concern.

A tib/fib fracture is very serious, especially compounded. I really hope she did not fracture her femur as well - that's about the worst bone you can possibly fracture, other than your skull. Poor girl, I'm sure she must have been in a lot of pain and very scared, and is lucky she did not go into shock. She's got a lot of rehab ahead of her. Hope she's able to come home or at least transfer to a hospital closer to home very soon.

I too am very sorry to hear about this, I hope she recovers quickly and completely.

Side note: how does the answer get listed before the question?

she passed out on the floor.

One of the Nor Cal girls who was competing had to drag her off the stage because it took people a really long time to get to her...which doesn't make any sense. there were spotters there and everything.

WAIT. You mean they had an open tib/fib fracture ON the floor, with the victim UNCONCIOUS, and they did NOT STOP THE ROUTINE?????????

That is completely irresponsible and downright NEGLIGENT!! With that type of injury, shock is a major concern - this was a life threatening injury!

I am stunned. These competition companies need to have medical staff present AT the side of the floor so things like this can be handled immediately. She is a very lucky girl that things are not more serious.

I am also shocked nobody stopped the routine, and that medical staff didn't go out there. I don't think fellow team members are supposed to have to drag someone off the stage (which can also be dangerous, right)?? What if the injury were one where you are not supposed to move someone?

No one even knew at first. She ate her three to full and then started screaming but no one in the crowd could hear it except the girls on the floor. Only a select few saw her face and her leg and one of the girls missed her layout so that she could pull her off the floor as she was passing out. Roy and Mike (NCE) coaches then IMMEDIATLY ran to her as the rest of the routine went on and stuck perfectly, marking her stunts. Very shortly after they had paramedics with a stretcher to the back of the matt. It was not like she was sitting there on her own for a long time. It took them 20-30 minutes to get the situation stabilized and then she was brought out to the hospital.

We know she will have to get surgery and it is so unfortunate for something like this to happen to such a sweet girl. She is on large coed as well so a sign was made as the center piece that said "for lauren" and everyone wore tape on their wrist for her. Every single girl was crying on the team after knowing was happened to her, it is just something that is really hard to witness especially if it is your teammate and friend. Amazingly on large coed, they pulled it together, one girl threw an extra full in her spot, we had a new extra flyer go up in her stunt as well as in her pyramid spot. After only being able to try the stunts a couple times in warmups they all stuck on the floor, amazingly.

You're absolutely right - with her injury, and being unconcious, no one should have moved her. I am dumbfounded. She is very, very lucky.

So its really sad that I'm surprised to come on here to find people supporting us. Don't get me wrong...I love the concern...but seeing as girls at the competition were laughing when lauren got hurt, it gives me an excuse to be upset. I personally witnessed girls from two different teams laughing, a Diva's coach smiling when she got hurt (lauren was a Diva then left), and people in the bathrooms complaining that "the break was too long." Our team was devastated when she was hurt, absolutely devastated. And for people to laugh at this...shows me how much people can be wrapped up in competition. It is not, under any circumstance, ok for someone to be happy that a girl got hurt, no matter how big a rivalry you have.

Do these people really not have a heart?

...honestly.

The Divas coach wasn't even THERE yesterday. She went home yesterday morning and was long gone before competition even started.

Don't make up lies just because you're angry about something that happened to your team.

Thanks to the person who pointed me to this thread.

I was at competition on FRIDAY, and SATURDAY. I was there observing the judging. I was the ONLY coach from our gym present.

I was NOT at competition on Sunday. My Southwest flight left at 9:20 yesterday morning and I was home in my PJs before noon yesterday. I would be more than happy to show my boarding pass stub to anyone who would like to see it. I was in San Jose long before the senior 5 divisions even began.

We are very sorry to hear what happened to Lauren. She did not leave our gym on any sort of negative terms. In fact, we sent flowers last night when we heard what happened. Lauren is a very talented and gifted cheerleader.

I don't know what would possess you guys to tell lies that can be easily refuted by evidence on paper. You should be supporting your teammate during this time instead of continuing to attack us and our program. I work in sports medicine and would NEVER laugh at an injury, much less to someone I know!

We hope Lauren is home soon and back in the gym as soon as she's able. Best of luck to her.
