Why is this board so negative

I just recently discovered this board and I have been cruising for a few days. During a night of insomnia I spent about 3 hours reading through numerous threads. I have to admit that I do post on the ProX board and the people here seem to hate that board, but I find it very entertaining. Not everything about cheerleading has to be so serious, life and death, cut-throat, win at all cost, everyone hate everyone else. We have discovered that there are alot of WONDERFUL cheer moms and dads out there from all over the country. When we go to competitions, we cheer for each other, wear the other gyms shirts and act as crazy for their team as we do for our own. We do get off topic and act goofy---but anyone can join the "kidding and fun" that we have.

What I have noticed about this board is that there is very little graciousness and little support for other gyms. It seems that everyone in California hates each other----what a terrible way to live!! My daughter is in her 11th year in all-star cheerleading, and I would hate to think that I had to spend that many years not being happy for any other team that won. Or not believing that anyone else deserved to win. I'm thrilled when her team wins---but sometimes other teams are just better and deserve the win. I'm truely happy for them and her team has displayed exemplary sportsmanship. Is this just a Southern phenomenon? I hate to be critical of a board, but considering that so many people on this board seem to loathe the ProX board, I have to admit---This one is no better!

I read your posts on ProX and it made me sad. Not what you said, but that what you say here and on ProX about this message board is true. Most of us that are associated with Cheergyms.com have asked for the Anonymous Arlene section to require a log-in, similar to ProX board due to the negative comments that continue to appear. It seems that people can be bold, rude, and trash other teams as long as they don't have to identify themselves. What cowards.

I think this board has become a black mark on Cheergyms.com's reputation. To me it doesn't matter if the negative posts are not from Cheergyms.com or not. The fact that this continues to be allowed is frustrating and makes me sad.

I also want you to know we don't hate CPGB. I actually respect the fact that you have been successful at highjacking negative topics on ProX board. I've tried many times on this message board and have had no success. So keep up the good work, keep supporting each other, and maybe someday we can have a great support system out her on the Left Coast.

Good luck to all the teams that will be going to Vegas this weekend.

But not all of us from California are this way!! It is sad that people are like this. My daughters have been cheering for 3 years now and I have taught them to respect other teams and cheer them on. Treat others the way you want to be treated right? My daughter's do not laugh or clap when other teams fall out of stunts or have touch downs on their tumbling. & even if a team comes in last place we always try to tell them good job. It isn't all about the win!! The girls/guys should go out there and have fun with it!! I know it's called a competitive sport but at least if California teams could stick together no matter if your from So.Cal or No.Cal. I wish all teams the best of luck!!

You're not alone in your thoughts and what you are teaching your daughters. I have two young girls that cheer and I also teach them to behave and treat others how they would want to be treated. We cheer others on, try to make new friends from other teams at competitions, etc. I wish we could all support each other and help each other so that *more* west coast teams could be successful on the the worlds level. Anyway..... long story short, there are more moms out here who are trying to overcome the negativity, you're not alone. Stay strong in your convictions.

Any board that allows anonymous posting will have people posting whatever the heck they want to say. If you make it where they have to register, the negativity goes WAY down. Too bad it doesn't go away.... But yeah, people are more likely to watch their p's and q's when they have some accountability.

I whole heartly agree that you should have to register before signing on. I really think that it is a small minority that causes all the negativity, but it only takes a few to ruin it for everyone else.

I do not know if registering really helps. On prox you do not have to give an e-mail address, so people register over and over. Also, things get super negative there too. Does anyone remember the trashing of South Bay last year on that board. I think there were like 10 pages on them. Who knows..... I just think people should realize when they trash teams, it does not make those teams look bad, it makes the programs that trash look BAD.

When you say "it makes the programs that trash look BAD", WHAT PROGRAMS? If the posts are anonymous then you don't know who is doing the bashing. You are making some big assumptions about who the bashers are.

Example: Anonymous Poster A bashes team B. Team B comes on and claims that Anonymous Poster A is from Team C and bashes Team C for bashing Team B. Then Team C comes on and says, hey, that wasn't us. It must of been Team D because they really hate Team B.

Nobody knows who is saying what and it shouldn't make anyone look bad. Because it is all made up junk from people that just like to create problems.

I have viewed both boards and I must agree. This board is much more negative that the PROX board. Dont get me wrong, there are negative comments on both but I think this board has much more negativity. Its kind like a train wreck you know its bad, but you cant help but look.

Maybe if there was a way to only register with a VALID email address where your log in was not activated until an acception response is emailed back to the original registerer with a code or something..... Something like that maybe? Moderator?

I agree with the people that say the boards where people have to register tend to be less negative. Most of the people on ProX (if they stay very long or post much) will eventually tell you who they are, where they are from, what team their child cheers for, or if it's a cheerleader or coach---who they cheer for or coach. It just seems to be a very different atmosphere on ProX. There can be some negative people and comments, but they are usually squashed by the moms who want everyone to get along. Even some of the kids who used to really bash other teams, have turned over a new leaf, and are really pleasant on the board now. They have figured out that competition is great---but friendly competition is better. I hope that this board can find the "positive" in cheering for other gyms/teams and getting to know their kids. It really is a great experience.

It is my belief, that it is not the Board that is negative, but rather , those that post negative comments, are the ones with negativity . It is not a reflection on CheerGyms.com., They only provide and accomodate space for people to post, be it positive or negative. Personally, I would prefer to see positive posts, at all levels. Post about congratulations, or job werll done, well wishes on upcoming events. However that is a dream, however, it is also a possibility. Those that post have to do some personal soul searching before they post that first keystroke on thier keyboards.

As for CheerGyms.com and its owners, coaches, trainers. They have a GREAT HANDBOOK of rules and regulations. It not only covers the cheerleaders, but also the parents. Basically, ie; conduct..no matter where you are, whether in the gym, at school, at a competition etc. you are required to be at your best, and you are to do your utmost to support, yourself, your team mates, and be respectful of all teams, persons, coaches, judges, etc. Because no matter where you are, you are representing Cheergyms.com. Even on this message board. If you have ever been to a competition where a team, or all teams from Cheergyms.com are represented. you would know and understand, that this west coast company, is one of the utmost in representation of good sportsmanship and conduct through its cheerleaders and parents and supporters.

This year we are not with Cheergyms.com, but are still supportive of them and their program, and have taken their example with us to our new gym, and are spreading the smiles. ( it was a matter of logistics)

One final note..ie; to log in, or not to log in..Your ISP, can be seen by the moderator. Go to any chat room, or message board, no matter who your service provider is, anytime, anywhere you"enter" ,your pc always leaves a mark, or "footprint". Don`t be fooled into thinking that you cannot be seen. I would assume if the posts were bad enough, or defamatory, or worse, vulgar, I would say that whomever posts that type of message will be asked and told to stop, and probably barred. This is my assumption, not a fact...

Personally, I can only hope that those who have animosity in thier hearts, will think twice before posting anything negative that can hurt feelings and reputations of hard working cheerleaders, coaches, parents, and gym owners who love this sport. Lets have a great 06-07 cheer season, with positive attitudes.

Don't you find it interesting that the message board is quiet today? Must be because many teams are in Vegas. Just be prepared tonight. I'm sure we'll here some bashing. Too bad. I was enjoying the quiet, calm (before the storm).

My hope is that every team hit their routine today. And that the kids and parents take some time to get to know people from outside their own gym.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the people that went to Vegas, all came back----pleased that they had children healthy enough to compete in this sport, pleased that they are in a financial positition that allows their children to participate in a very expensive sport, and pleased that their children had the opportunity to be part of a team and meet new people. I may be an optimistic---but there is no reason people have to be hostile and critical of kids! After all, in the scheme of life---It's just cheerleading!!!!

I think you can give reviews and be critical without being negative. I think constructive criticism is a good thing. Teams are not on stage to simply perform, they are there to compete. This is a sport. The criticism on this board has actually helped our team make some changes. It's good to see how you are perceived by others and how your routine looks to others, and where you can make changes for the better. But it can be done in a civil manner, and that's where you have to weed out the good posts with the bad.

I agree with this!! Constructive criticism is helpful and makes individuals and teams better. But most of what I read on here isn't constructive---it's hostile, at best. That is the reason that most people (other than those on the left coast) don't post much here. Not only are we unfamiliar with the teams---for the most part, but I hate having to wade through all the negative stuff to get to ONE positive post. I know most of the people that frequent this board don't care much for ProX---but I find it entertaining. If there are serious cheer questions---they are addressed. But the mood is generally light---and most often really funny!! I hope that some of that attitude could possibly spill over to this board. It would be much more fun to read.

I enjoy reading the pro x board, and I think more people that frequent this one feel the same way (they also enjoy pro x). As a matter of fact my feeling is (and this is just my opinion) if this board starts requiring people to log in, most won't bother with the hassle and will go to the other board (why not)? The advantage of this board is that it's easy to post. I have a login at pro x, and I never remember it, or my password. Also, on pro x, I like hearing more viewpoints from all over the country.

Sorry, I meant to mention one more thing; I do enjoy this board and frequent it more than pro x, because gyms I'm familiar with are mentioned (often in great detail)! I'm grateful to cheergyms for supplying us an outlet, and for making it easy to post our views. I enjoy reading both boards, when I have the time (like now on a nice quiet Saturday night).

It shouldn't be that tough to get on Pro X. When you log in, you enter the log in name, your password and then there are two radio buttons that give you options. The first is if you want auto login. You should click that yes as long as you are using your own private computer.

Then each time you to the message board, you will already be logged in.

Hope that helps. Always love hearing from others that enjoy all star cheerleading.

Well, teams are back from Vegas and guess what. This message board is out of control again. While all these Vegas teams were busy competing we had a great respectful conversations on the board.

So, I'm giving up. Giving up on these rude teenagers, giving up on trying to turn the board around, giving up on good sportsmanship.

I will miss reading the positive comments on these boards from coaches and parents.

I hope the rude cheerleaders are happy with their petty spiteful spirits. Merry Christmas. I know my life will be better without reading this junk anymore.
