lol, well actually I was just kidding, but I decided to try a first attempt (twas the night...). I forgot how long that poem was, so this is a much abbreviated version. It came out kind of corny, but hopefully it still rings true for most of us. Feel free to add more (or delete some!), it can be a group project.
Twas the night before Nationals and all through the gym Our stunts were all falling, our chances looked grim The bases were holding our flyers with care In hopes that tomorrow they'll stay in the air
I watched as a tumbler fell on her head Our coach was not happy, her face, it was red The routine's not working, too tired perhaps So coach sent us home, said we all needed naps
While lying there thinking what could be the matter Depressed that our chances of winning will shatter Saddened our season will end in a flash My head hit the pillow, I started to crash
I suddenly woke to a sound growing near It was so familiar, it sounds like our cheer This guy, he was moving real lively and quick A red suit and beard, it must be St. Nick
He reached in his bag, and called out my name He gave me a picture in some cute cheer frame There's Brandon and Jenny, Samantha and Westin Julie and Ashley, Amanda and Kristin Those were my teammates, then he named them all He said they're what matters, not trophies on walls
These moments together will soon pass you by So treasure these memories money can't buy So what if you don't win, stop feeling so blue You'll have lasting friendships when your season's through
Well I knew he was right, every word that he said I gave him a cookie, then headed to bed Then I heard him yell out as he flew out of sight "Go Santa, go Santa, go RED, go WHITE"
Wish I had more time to work on it, it's a start anyway. Happy holidays everyone!
