I LOVE BIG BOWS, I don't think uniforms look the same without a big cute cheer bow. Also either Flat iron your hair in a high pony tail or do super tight curls. (My preference is the flat ironed hair). None of this kinda wavy hair.
And please people if you don't know how to do a proper poof or bump, THEN DON"T DO IT!!. Do you really want your teams hair looking tore up.
I have heard there is a team coming out with headbands instead of bows. I don't think I like that. What do you think?
What is the best prodect out there to keep hair slicked back and in place? I have been using wax works but would like to know if there is something better out there
I prefer headbands to bows. It's my opinion (and I'm probably in the minority here) that cheerleading needs to move away from cute and more towards athleticism; it's been going that direction for years. I say get rid of the big bows, they're distracting and are constantly falling on the floor anyway. I see bows (at least the big ones) going in the direction of wigs, they'll be gone in a matter of years.
My favorite is the straight pony tail. It looks nice when there are loose curls. Hate cheer curls. There was a team at a the American Championship in San Jose that had the poof then ratted thier pony tails. I watched as one of the girls ratted anothers hair and I mean ratted. Didn't think that looked good at all kinda messy.

I know VEA does wears the head bands and I think it looks very cute!! A very clean and finished look to the whole uniform!!
Cheerleading has athletic portions to it, but it is and always be a performance activity. If you want something with the natural look then play softball and socceer. It looks a lot sharper when your hair is pulled back in a bow and hair is off the face. Please, big bows will never go out of style. They have been around for a long time. As for your comparison of bows to hair pieces, tons of teams still wear them, so I wouldn't say its out dated. Cheer is a bout style and skill. The best teams do both, not one or the other.
At the next competition, count how many bows end up on the floor. I think I saw one every other routine at Jamz. Love headbands... It'll be nice to see a mix of both.
what i absolutely can not stand is half up. everywhere the girls hair is flying all over the place ! ugly and messy looking. oh but it's soooo "college" ugh.
headbands depends on how you do them. headbands sounds to me like there will be loose hair. which will fly all over the place. ugh.
Nikki did the headband thing 3 years ago. It didn't work well. It's tough to get it to stay put. And bows that fly off??? Are you kidding? They should be put on ATTACHED to rubber bands. They CANNOT come off if they are tied to a rubber band. Any head gear, including fake hair, that comes off should be a deduction.
2 competitions ago, a girls fake hair came off and was caught on the end of her LONG braid. She did the entire routine (as a flyer) with this thing at the end of her hair, that looked like a lions tail. I swear to you, I have NEVER EVER heard my daughter laugh so hard in her life cause it looked so incredibly funny! She was tugging on it to get it off the entire routine. We felt bad for the girl but it was hysterical looking. DON'T DO THIS TO YOUR KIDS!
Oh Lord, that was funny.
The half up, half down is pretty but hair is flying everywhere. I still like the pony so you could add to that and make it your own. It's practical, easy, looks neat and tidy and you could use a bow that doesn't go anywhere. The pump is ok, but I swear to you, my daughter and I would get in huge fights cause it never was "perfect" enough.
