Starstruck won in every division except youth show cheer level 1 where they placed 2nd. Pretty impressive day for them, and for Cheer Odyssey. Starstruck won the grand award (the one that was $3,000+); Airborne won one too but I can't remember the exact award, think it was for at least $1,000... $1500 maybe?
I thought cheer odyssey's level 5 routine was clean, and I loved the choreography, very sharp and entertaining. But if they are going to hang with the other level 5 coed teams they need to add more difficulty to their stunts. Didn't count how many fulls they had. Airborne had lots of mistakes, hopefully they'll look better for their comp in Vegas. But good first time effort by both.
not quite, but close enough wrote: Starstruck won in every division except youth show cheer level 1 where they placed 2nd. Pretty impressive day for them, and for Cheer Odyssey. I was really surprised at some of the divisions Starstruck won. I'm not saying their teams weren't good, but there were two or three divisions where to me, they very clearly were not the winner based on what they put on the floor. And it wasn't just a preference in style thing, it was where they were out-stunted and out-tumbled and they made mistakes and still somehow beat perfectly clean routines with more difficulty. I know sometimes a competition company tends to favor a certain style but some of the placings were bizarre. Does Jamz post scores later on? I'd be really curious to see the margins of some of the divisions.
I really thought Cheer Odyssey would have won the large program award. But if you combine dance scores with the cheer scores I can see how Starstruck got it, their dance teams are amazing.
Airbone won the small program award, which was well-deserved.
Cheer Odyssey won the "Xtreme Stunt Choreography" award. I didn't get to see that routine so I can't comment, but seeing that they won coed 5 that's probably right.
The awards for this event took TOO LONG! They were already a half hour behind to start with, and they were still taking breaks in between teams, tossing beads and stuff around, and the awards took FOREVER!! By the time I'd gathered up my kid it was after 11!

I agree, To see a team drop stunts and girls miss back hand springs and still place 2nd in a group of 4 was bizarre! must be some favoritism?
Are the results listed in the SF results post right?? I admit I didn't stay for all the awards because I hate getting out of the Cow Palace but I paid careful attention to a few of the divisions and these results posted seem really wrong
Senior Show Cheer Level 3 (4 places out of 6) ----------------------------------------------------- Starstruck Cheer Divas Gold Star Roseville
It just doesn't match with my notes at all. I had it as Cheer Divas, Starstruck, Roseville, Cheer w/a Twist, Gold Star, VEA. And usually if I think it's even going to be marginally close, I mark it that way (I circle the two teams that are close and put "1/2" instead of marking one 1 and one 2). I didn't do that here, so it must have been very obvious to me what I thought was going to happen. But whatever, that's not the only division that I thought was weird. It's just the only one I really remember the routines and being very sure in my rankings.

Ahhh, we'll never understand the judges, I guess!
I had the top 3 the same as you. The last three teams could have gone any way because they all had falls all over the place. My daughter's team was one of them and they did not have a good day. But my top 3 matches yours and I had Cheer Divas as the clear winner. I didn't pay attention to many of the other divisions, just the ones we had teams in, but I agree with you that some of the placements were really screwy.
How are the program awards determined? How many teams make up small or large programs? Do they combine dance with cheer?
The result that surprised me the most is I had Cheer Divas winning the Senior Coed Level 4 Division. I wonder if they had penalties? Didn't see that one coming..
cheer odyssey's routine. I know it was their first time out at level five, but the only skills that I saw that were level five was their fulls. Correct me if I am wrong, but they didn't double down from one legged stunts. They were run to watch though and very clean. I just didn't think the difficulty level was a true five. Airborne on the other hand was performing a level five routine. They just had a rough time with the stunting. I am sure they will fix that. Look forward to seeing both teams in upcoming competitions.
If you really want a breakdown I think they ment that Airborne's routine compared to swat or cheer odyssey had more difficulty , they just did missed a whole side of the pyramid.
Airborne had about 5 or 6 three to fulls with some whips included in the begining, triple toe backs not full squad and half the team with bhs backs. Choreography is strong and moves the whole time, no time to breathe from the looks of it.
Cheer Odyssey had very clean stunts with good flexibility. Some transitions were slow, good dance but not as flashy as Airborne. It hink half of the team threw toe backs and some busted, but good effort. Nice double from last tumbler. Great Pyramid!
Swat - I think what sets Swat back is not the lack of skills (stunting wise ) in the routine. It is the overall flow and choreography. Yes they have some sky high kick doubles and some good stunts but the in between is not exciting to watch and you lose interest. Besides that they only had one or two fulls and one double. Girls were busting hard on round off tucks. They also have some very young girls on the team which makes their stunts easier but the overall confidence and effect of the routine is different then a true age appropriate senior team.
i mentioned that in the above post. I said ' nice double from the last past from cheer odyssey' . yes we are aware this is a level 5 skill thannks for clearing that up.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to seeing all of them.
is non stop. There is no question that the difficulty level for the Airborne routine was far above the Odyssey routine and if they clean it up and fix their problems they will be amazing. At the same time, my hats off to Odyssey they were clean and sharp and had a very energetic performance. You all had a well deserved win.
