RE: GSSA is coming up

I was at the comp. Cheer Odyssey looked good. Kudos for them for trying the next level, they could stay coed 4 and win all year or try new skills-you have to start somewhere!

Some people on this message board are truly upsetting. You cant win when you win and when you lose watch out because all the smack talk starts. Cheer Odyssey had a clean performance. My Seniors did not. Yes our skill level was higher in some areas but Cheer Odyssey had a stronger pyramid, as they have about 30 people to work with and we have 20. I commend them for their victory. They were clean and fun to watch. Good Job to Cheer Odyssey. Have a great season!

Word of advise, which I know most won't take, but if you leave the negative comments alone, don't respond, then they will get buried in the thread and we won't have to keep reading about it. That's what I try to do. Just ignore the negatives and focus on the positives.

Good job to all the teams this past weekend. And sounds like another great competititon this weekend at GSSA.

You can also take the negatives and turn them into positives. Hidden in the negative tone of some of the posts might be come constructive criticism that will get you further. There are nicer more positive ways to offer advice but most of the time, unfortunately, people tend to go the other route and it just comes across as complete negativity. Maybe before someone posts they should consider how they would feel reading it about their own gym or team.

Cheer Odyssey is a senior co-ed limited level 5 team (3 boys) and do not expect to be able to win against a senior co-ed level 5 team that has 7 to 12 boys. They are only in the same division because there was no competition in the co-ed limited level and they did not separate the levels. They are new to the level but why stay level 4 and waste 6 to seven fulls? their skills are growing every practice and they are not afraid to compete even if they might lose. The majority of the people who bash them do it for personal reasons not because they are a bad team.

Nicole,
You and your team show a lot of CLASS! Thank you for setting a great example of just how an owner and/or coach should act. Kudos to you, and best of luck this season!

yes, you have to start somewhere, I absolutely agree. If the goal for the team or gym is to only dominate then you should keep your team in a lower level, max your skills and win all the time. I bet all of the teams out there the goal isn't only that but includes reaching a higher level of competition. If you don't strive to be successful in a catagory where the cheerleaders are being challenged then you may never know the full potential of the team. why would you want to be apart of a gym/team who doesn't encourage growth? There are more aspects to cheer than JUST winning, such as challenging their weaknesses, encourage improvement, building self esteem, loose graciously, overcoming a fear, teamwork, selfless giving, which enhance qualities they can carry with them for life. All of that makes a cheer gym/team great. Cheer Odyssey's program encompasses more for their cheerleaders than just a competative edge, the others things mentioned and a focus on winning. They are involved in Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Kids in a box, and has reached out to those in the cheer world and that is a soild, well rounded foundation for a successful gym. They may loose some, they will won some but those cheerleaders will gain more then just a "win"

good luck to everyone of the teams who compete!

CO mom!

Yes, I can see that Cheer Odyssey is a very caring gym. But I think they do care about winning (didn't they drop from level 4 to level 3 for their final competition last year)? And that's perfectly fine. So the message isn't that it's not about winning, but that there should be an equal balance, and CO does appear to have that (if they didn't, I imagine they wouldn't have as many teams as they do).

I think that our gym has learned alot since last season. That last competition (Hollywood) was the last competition with our dear Katy. I think it made us realize that it isn't all about winning, but to go out there, do your best and have fun with it and enjoy the time you have with your family and friends. Losing is not the worst thing that could happen right?

You are right in perspective, loosing a cheerleading competition is NOT the worst thing in life. Go everyone and do their best this weekend.

i appreciate all the things said about the level 5 team for cheer odyssey, but i dont like all the negative comments. our team moved up a level and added 11 people and had only 4 practices to learn a whole new routine...and we still got first. and all cheer odyssey teams got first place last weekend. we work very hard every practice and comp. and we didnt just win because of "luck"

good luck to everyone at the comp this weekend!
