Why mention a gym's name? Why not just say this person did this rude thing.
I have seen horrible behavior from parents who were part of very large well respected gyms. Do I think less of the gym? No, that would be ridiculous. Am I going to go home and call the gym the next day to tell them? No, I have better things to do with my time. Just more thoughts on this.
So here's a question .. if you have a bag on a seat you're saving, it's fine for someone to come up and take your bag, put it on the ground, and have a seat? All I can say is the next competition we're at should be interesting!
I do not think that it is right to take something off of the chair and sit down. I've seen that happen so many times . Also I do not think it's right for someone to ignore you after you just told them that the seat was saved and just sit down. That happened to me at a comp. My daughters went to the bathroom, this lady and her husband asked if those seats were taken and I said yes they are they will be right back and then they told me that I wasn't suppose to save seats and sat down anyways. Now I don't think that's right at all.
O.k. if we can solve this problem at the youth competition I am sure it can be done at the All Star level (read page 1 if you haven't already). John, you have set a trend with your all star teams, now with competitions...you truly are a 'genious"...luv ya!!! Come on parents, if enough of us ask for assigned seating it is bound to catch on. Granted it will not make everyone happy but would probably solve some problems? I plan to be in an All Star program next year and would really like these details hammered out!!! MEANT TO BE LIGHTHEARTED...don't hurt me!!!
To say that assigned seating will not make everybody happy is a major understatement. You will have far more unhappy people with this than those complaining about saved seats. You simply can't make a group of cheerleaders and parents sit where you think they should sit (off to the side where they can't see perhaps)? If you take the first to register and plop them in the center, you won't have enough seats to accomodate those who registered first in each division. Then what, a lottery?
Simple common sense and courtesy will go much further. If I'm willing to get there early to get a good seat, I should be able to sit wherever I want.
I really believe that if every competition would go to Priority Seating for fans of the team performing, seat saving issues would generally become a thing of the past.
Cheersport does it and does it very well. WCA does it, although they still haven't gotten it quite right. Jamfest does it and does it very well.
NCA & UCA haven't done it at any comp I've ever attended. For them, it's a problem with the venues that they use. It would be very difficult moving people in and out from in front.
But we really ned to encourage more event producers to adopt this. More people would be content to sit on the side if they know they'll be right down front to see their own teams.
I think that's about as close to a working compromise as you can get (priority seating for the fans of the team performing). As you said, ACEDAD, as long as people have good seats to see their teams, they'll be happy. I think that's when you have the battles, when people want to sit in the center temporarily to see their teams perform.
