I know we have talked about this before, but my pet peeve is saving seats. Program directors and coaches please talk to your parents and let them know that this is not okay and makes your programs look bad. At the Power competition there were a couple cheer diva moms agressively saving seats about 20-30. I blew them off and sat a little farther over and let them do their thing. 20 minutes later they were still saving seats for people, but no one sat down.
Now, I have to say my hero is a cheergyms mom who sat down after she was told that the seats were being saved. She endured some serious glares, but she is my hero. She stuck it out and sat there.
I think we should all follow her example and when someone says they are saving seats, say " I am sorry there are no saving seats allowed." Then sit down.
If more of us do this, maybe the pushy parents will stop saving seats!

Remember there are no saving seats.
I was at the Americas Best competition and I sat down in a section that looked pretty open about 20 minutes later there was like 200 people from Power. We got up to leave and a lady from Power said to us "Are you leaving" and I let her know that yes I was because I was not aware that this was the Power section, she assured me that there was no problem with me sitting there, but I got up anyways I felt weird with my 2 kids and not being from Power.
AB seating was horrible!! So was Ultimate in San Jose the week before. Last year's AB was a lot better with the risers. Bring back the risers! Seating needs to improve, and they need to better inforce the "no saving seats" rule. People are getting more and more aggressive and it's silly. It stinks to pay $10 to see the back of a bunch of peoples' heads!
I have to agree with this! One of the biggest pet peeves I have is not as much parents saving seats for parents, but cheerleaders taking whole sections of the best seats and throwing their bags on them and leaving for the whole comp!!!! Every time I see it this year I will be sending a message or letter to their organization saying how completely inconsiderate it is!!! Thank you to Cheergyms and the other organizations that make their cheerleaders sit in sections that are off to the side and not in the main viewing section of the competitions. The girls/boys are never in their seats and can go around to watch if they want to. I was really disappointed at the Power comp to see the center upper level section (which had the best viewing in the house) taken over by a gym and there were probably 10-15 parents and the rest were cheer bags for cheerleaders that weren't there. This has been a problem for years and I have had it. Gym owners and coaches need to be respectful of this as it shows class when you do and have your teams off to the side so the parents can have a better view.

At the POWER competition, we couldn't find a group of FIVE seats together, much less 20-30. All our kids even sat in the hallway the entire competition because there were no seats until long after they'd performed.

Agreed! That venue was packed! I don't know how anyone could have tried to save that many seats. I had a hard enough time finding 5 seats for my family all together. I would think someone would have noticed a huge pack of seats being saved. There were a lot of people who had to stand in the aisles and doorways until just before awards started, then there was finally some room for people to sit down.

Sorry to make two posts but I missed this one the first time. I didn't see this particular group but I did see a large pop warner group that had taken over one entire section on the left of the floor, but they were never in their seats! That was annoying! Probably 50-75 seats that could have been seating people but were filled with backpacks and other stuff. I like competitions where the venue is so big that a team can go way up into the nosebleed section or way off to one side and take up enough room and come and go for warmups and performances and awards without being hogging seats other people might want.

FYI The youth teams were assigned seating areas for their cherleaders during the a.m. competition. We did not know that the seating assignments were only for the youth competition.

Didn't know that, but that's a great idea! Competitions should assign blocks of seating for the cheerleaders themselves. That would solve a lot of issues!

It was very cool. Parents of all leagues were also asked to sit above their teams. This seemed to go pretty well also. The floor area was for cheerleaders and coaches only and it was inforced, people were getting stopped at the door if they did not have a red wristband on.

I know where you're coming from. Almost every comp I go to, I see the same problem. But I have a question. Several times over the past several years, I got up to use the Restroom, or to get something to eat. I would place my sweatshirt on the back of the chair, to save my seat. But numerous times I returned to find someone in my seat. I was rudely told "No Saving Seats!"......So, is there a solution? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've met some really nice cheer parents, and some very aggressive and rude cheer parents as well....
When I sue the restroom, I ask one of the parents with me to hold my seat. I truly do not have a problem with the onsies or twosies. It is saving a big section of seating. Oh and I totally agree about the cheerleaders and their bags on chairs. I do like the idea previously where someone said if they see it happening, they complain to the program director about it.

Yeah, and when you stand or sit in the Aisles to watch the Comp, you get told by the "Aisle Police" that you can't sit or stand in the Aisles. You have to sit in a seat......So now what????? You just can't win!!
Every Comp that we go to were POWER is...they ALWAYS have their parents sitting together in one section. Why is this? Has anyone ever asked? Why are they able to sit to gether and other large groups...good luck?

Just asking!
They sit together to support their teams! I think it's great and shows unity. As long as they're sitting together and not just saving empty seats, I don't have a problem with it. More Power to them (No pun intened)! The competition's I've been to, I've never seen "Power" saving empty seats. They are always sitting together and do a great job of cheering thier teams on. It's amazing!!
Power parents are the first ones in the door, and so they (in my opinion) deserve the seats they get. Notice that they always sit to the one side of the stage, they could take the entire middle section but the don't. Power parents seem to me the MVP's fo that team. I gotta love em.. Good Job Power
By the way wrote: BTW, doesn't your teams parents sit together?
I am a cheer mom from Cheer Odyssey and we always sit together too!!
You have many parents but they were all over one general area. They don't make the same "splash" that Power parents do. Your teams looked really good, will be watching this time for sure.
