You know the majority of the TOP gyms in the country do not allow open practices until exhibition time. Some top gyms do, but the point is for them to focus. Would you watch your son play football everyday, NO.

****ACTUALLY, my son plays competitive soccer and I DO WATCH my son play everyday. I have close friends that their sons play football....and they are out there watching their sons on the football field EVERYDAY. *****

I cannot believe how rude people are in here!! Is this an adult talking or a child?

It's most likely a child. No parent would ever miss their childs life like that if they had a choice.

No worries. If you want to watch your child every day. More power to you. If you have better things to do than watch your child every chance you get... well, that's your choice I guess. To each his own.

I think I am at a loss as to how something could be more important in life than watching ones children grow, learn and experience. Other than work and other family members, I can't think of anything more important. And more rewarding.

Proud Parent........GREAT POST!

If anyone (coaches and owners) have a problem with that post, then you read the WHOLE post incorrectly!

That post was not only polite and kind, but also RIGHT ON THE NOSE!! The poster didn't bash anyone or say anything negative about a certain gym. The truth was stated...... that coaches and owners should be polite to not only their students, but also to the parents. Why is that so hard to understand? There should be "equal" respect and politeness from owners, coaches and parents. I think that all gyms should be extremely grateful to their polite and helpful parents!!! I also do a lot for the gym where my daughter goes. Sooo, why not give me a smile and make me feel welcome and appreciated as a helpful and considerate parent?? I not only make your job easier, but I also contribute to your business and the all around happiness of the gym. If the parents and coaches are happy, then the owner and students are happy!!

It is toooo bad when the parents are spending all this money for their children and they aren't feeling appreciated or respected by the owners or coaches. It is fabulous if the kids have a great time when they are at the gym, but besides that.....the gym should also want to work as a team "with" the parents. Team Work..from both sides! It's much better that way!

Excuse me, I drove 20 miles each way to take my daughter to practice as she didn't yet drive. You expect that I drive round trip twice?
Get a Hobby ? Get real . I watched very unobtrusively my daughter's practice . However much of the time I was doing my hobby , crochet or knitting. I would sit in the car but in the winter it was too much.
My daughter's coaches had no problem w/ me being there as I was " not there " meaning I was out of sight and mind so to speak.
Not all parents are critical , and yes I enjoyed being able to look up and not only watch my daughter but the other girls on her team . I was proud of their progress each week.

You know this issue is so one sided based on this post. Not one gym owner has a problem with parents wanting their kids to enjoy themselves or parent involvement, but some gyms have lack of space, parking and just don't need that extra body walking around the gym. I am a coach and we have parents hang around, and during practice they distract the kids, ask me questions during practice, and walk up to me like its ok. Now I probably have wasted at le ast 15-20 minutes each day because parents feel the need to do this habitually. We aren't as strict with viewing, but it also causes for the kids to get less training. It's funny cause you want all these rights, but at competition, most people want results. You can't have it all. The kids need to focus anytime they are with the coach, so give them that LITTLE amount of time they get and spend your off time socializing/bonding. It's not rude but honest.

Sometimes parents don't get it until they see their first competition. I can't tell you how many times I have been told "they need to have fun, maybe they could play games" Isn't that what playdates are for? Cheer is fun and for new girls it is hard in the beginning. There is nothing about stunting that is easy or comes naturally, jumping is tiring...but practice makes perfect. Funny, the parents are the ones who complain about working too hard...the kids are fine with it.
