My daughter is new to cheer, I was just wondering if all gyms play favortism with the girls, pitting one against the other, or am I just at the wrong gym?
and the ones who say it doesn't.... are either the coaches who favor, the kids whoe are favored or the parents oth the kids who get favored. I use this kind of stuff as one of lifes little lessons. Sometimes life isn't always fair, do your best and know that you did all you could do to make your team number one.
Not sure what you mean by pitting one against the other. I think ALL gyms play favoritism to some degree. I have friends at four different gyms, and I have heard various hints of favoritism from every single one, from big to small. But sometimes it's just perceived that way. I have heard parents talk about how their little Suzie never gets the chance to fly because they chose other girls who have been there longer. They are blinded to the fact that little Suzie does not have what is needed in a flyer. Just an example.. again, not knowing the facts, it's hard to say what is real, what is perceived.
At our gym I see coaches do tend to favor certain girls, sort of like teachers favor certain students. But I also see that it's because these girls are role models for the others...they listen to the coach, they take practices seriously, they work hard, etc... Hard not to favor them over the ones who constantly goof off, wasting everyone's time. Could be your situation is completely different, just throwing out yet another example.
I coach and I have favorites. Without a doubt. I tell my kids I will have favorites as well.
My favorites are kids that : work hard, have great attitudes and come to practice ALL of the time. If your kid does that then she will be my favorite too.
Be truthful to yourself!!! Do the girls on your team have a bit more talent than your daughters, or maybe even the same??? If so, now the personality of each girl might make allll the difference!!! Do you call that favoritism??? Maybe, but who's more likeable, seriously??? The girl with the charisma is gonna probably be chosen first! That's just the way it is!! Yes, i agree most clubs do have favorites, mine does. But that doesn't cloud our coaches judgement, and ability to place girls in their prospective performance spots!!!! If it does, then YES, you're at the wrong club!! First and foremost, is your daughter having a good time??? I hope so! If she is then try not to let your ideas become her ideas. Let her be!!! Let her just enjoy herself!
I DUNNO IF IT WOULD BE CALLED FAVORITISM, IT MIGHT BE THAT THAT CHEERLEADER AND COACH HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP OR THE CHEERLEADER HAS BEEN WITH THAT COACH FOR AWHILE... IN SOME SITUATIONS.. JUST A THOUGHT
It's only favortisim when you dont work hard and you and your parent like to whine about how team A always gets everything good why your team falls behind.
Try woring hard and concentrate all your negative energy into making your routine work.
I am a coach and there is favoritism. We are at our coaching meetings and we talk about our favorites. However it is much different . We give our attention to those who want and earn it. If they work hard. Are nice to everyone and are dedicated. It is not necessarily the best cheerleader however it is the most committed and hard working. Also when parents come to us and complain about things their child has told them. Yes sometimes their children change the story we see which kids are honest and which ones try to get attention. We have kids in our gym that manipulate the parents. However this is in every sport. We are not mean to the non favorites however when there are special priviledges if possible we like to give to those who work hard and earn it and this is usually our favorites. We all deal with parents who try to be our friends and buy us gifts we can see through that we look to the hard workers and they are the ones who are recognized not the ones who try to kiss our bbb to get their child places. So to all of you parents just encourage your children to do thieir best. Dont worry about giving us feedback. WE need it .. Just be honest and a real coach will listen and not pass judgement or take it out on kids.
I better ask for the "good luck / thank you" gifts I gave back! LOL I don't want people to think I am buying my child a spot..... uneless it works and she is in the front! JUST KIDDING.... don't go crazy people! I do appreciate my daughters coaches, I may not always agree with things but hey I am not willing to take on coaching a team.... OR dealing with the complaining parents. Thanks coaches!
