The Right would love for the Left to nominate Hillary or Obama or any other canidate that has little to no chance of winning in our still biased country. The funny thing is the Democrats will still do it thinking that the bleeding heart will win in the end like a good Jane Fonda film.
Well the conservatives had their turn, and look what they got done. . . wait- thinking. . . thinking. . . thinking. . . STILL thinking. Hmmm- yeah, nothing. So i'm way excited to see the democrats take over. And I love the fact that for the first time we have a women speaker of the house!!!!!
No no, they did do something, they screwed us into the ground in Iraq!
My cousin died in Iraq and did so to willingly to protect his country. Think what you all want but when most of the military members who are protecting your right to talk crap feel they have something to finish there then it is not your right to say the people dying over there are dying in vain. Ask some of them and you will hear way more positive stories then negative. Freedom is never free, if we are not willing to fight and protect against evil then we will be run over by terrorists. You better wake up and smell the coffee. Osama Bin Laden said that America did not have the guts to finish over there, I hope we do finish it and finish it right. It will be bad for everyone if we just walk away now, civil war will errupt and it will be a very bad situation.
I guess one thing I have to remember is that this board is based out of San Francisco where most of the WAY left live, and therefore your media and newspapers can brain wash you in to believing things that people who live in a more conservative environment would not tolerate. The best thing to do is be in the middle somewhere, people too far on either side go a little loonie.
I rarely (maybe never) see politics on this board, but since someone brought it up. I think it is you, "enough", who has been brainwashed into thinking we are there for the reason you think we're there. And there is no "finish" to this ... there is no "winning". The new people in power have known this for a while now and plan to change our strategy. Something that should have been done a long time ago. I for one am grateful there will be changes. Obviously most of America is too.
You are right there is no "Winner" however doing nothing will for sure amount to us all being losers. It is frightening that some in this country do not remember 9/11 and they audacity of the terrorists to come in to our country and kill American citizens. I still stand by the fact that you are brainwashed. Have you given anything up for your right to be an American, I doubt it!
What does 911 have to do with us going after Saddam?? We all want to protect our country, but we're barking up the wrong tree. It's sad that others like you still have blind patriotism and think we're on the right track. Scary too. There are more effective ways to protect our country, as you will soon find out hopefully.
I'm sure the moderator will be closing this topic down soon, had to get a last word in.
Well now that the Democrats will take office we will be in the world of socialism. Everyone get everything because they are breathing. Increase social programs and universal health care because people are americans, which in fact we need to get rid of illegal aliens, NOT LEGAL. Clean that up. I am sure Democrats will brush that under the rug even though its a HUGE issue that costs our state numerous tax dollars from a tax base they DON'T pay into. The war, hmmm I am sure they are all about getting our troops out of Iraq, but with no real plan or strategy for US safety other than lets not be in Iraq. Democrats cry for money, no idea how to spend it, and aren't really smart when it comes to budgeting and accountability. I am not looking forward to the next 4 years, but hey I guess change is good sometimes, but hopefully it will go by fast so we can get leaders with backbone again. Just because you don't always like what leaders do doesn't mean its not right! You have to look LONG TERM, not whats in front of your face.

Your right 100% It's hard for people to COMPLETE and job without getting discouraged. Alot of new Americans, especially young people think if something is rough then to just quit and move on. You can't lead life like that, because those battles will show up in another form. Stick to your guns and values.
Ok whell it cant just be San Fancisco that is "brainwashed" because I belive it wasnt just san fran that voted in senator and house races arcross the country. I belive this war is wrong and will be rememberd that of something like Vietnam. I mean why are we there right now, what are we fighting for? Yes the reason that we were told was going to war was deffinatly a legitamate one, It was right to make sure Saddam had no weapons because that would had odviously been a huge threat to America. But, the matter in which we did it in was wrong, There were United Nations weapons inspectors there searching for the weapons we had all been so sure were there. They were not allowed to FINISH THEIR JOB of finding these suposed weapons, and if they were allowed to then The current administration would have lost its strongest point to going to war. And we are there now doing what? Building a stong democracy in the middle east. Yes that does sound very noble and right, to build a democracy in the middle east. That is why we are still there right? We are building a democracy in a place that has never in its history been democratic? And another thing, has everybody just forgotten about Afganistan? The terrorists that formulated September 11th came from there, and is that not in the Middle East? Lets say we FINISHED OUR JOB there and helped them build a stable goverment. Wouldnt it be more economical to concentrate all the brave men and women who fight for us in one place slightly smaller then the state of Texas?
No one is saying just abandon Iraq, or that we aren't thankful for the people dying all all that. But diffrent people have diffrent opinions on wether we should have gone over there in the first place. I honestly don't think anyone is "brainwashed" everyone choose "what side" their on, for diffrent reasons. No one can make you, even if everything around you is all anti-republican, that doesn't mean that you have to go along with it. We all learned about "peer pressure" in school, that is what the media, and news is, it's sometimes pressures us into trying to believe something. I don't understand why people in opposing parties have such a haterid or grudge towrds the other parties. It makes no sense, EVERYONE is entitled to their own political view. . . even if it's not the same as yours.
I think the reason the term "brainwashed' is used is because some people will never change their views/opinions, even if presented with facts that go against what they've believed all along. You must have an open mind to accept when it's time to change the course. If it takes putting new people in power for that to happen, so be it.
I'm making a documentary for the santa cruz film festival and i still don't have anything official but one of my ideas is going into were the younger generations get their information on politics and how well formed their opinions are, so if any of you could send me your thoughts or were it is you get your political information, if you could email me at asitton@charter.net it would really help develop my idea Andrea Motions Senior Black
Alright, it seems to be that not all of you have your facts straight
Things are not going well in Iraq, in fact they have gotten worst, this past month was the most violent of months in Iraq yet, even Bush knows things aren't going well. That's why he has put together an Iraqui study group, here is what our options are:
1. Stay the course - with some (minimal) tactical adjustments
2. Increase the number of troops - which could very well cause a draft that would include both men and women
3. Withdraw (get the hell out)
4. Divide up Iraq into a confederate style government (up until now we've been goin for democracy)
5. Involve neighbors such as Iran to help us
Now all of you republicans are complaining about taxes........4 billion per month (1 billion per week) is being used in the war on Iraq, and those numbers are likely to go up if we continue the course we started. We are not in Iraq for the original reason, the original was because of the information we received about the weapons of mass destruction, however that's no longer the case.
Fact: Only 40% of Americans remember what year 9/11 happened in.
And to whoever said that Obama and Hilary are bad candidates.....I think you're going to be a bit surprised when push comes to shove in both the republican and democrat standings.
