Nice job on your first competition as California Spirit. Didn't some members from Colony go there too? And nice job Cheer Xplosion. It's great when everyone roots for each other; once family always family. I saw a lot of that today.
Thank you for the compliments. It is great that alot of the programs were very supportive. It's always a little nerve wracking your first time out. Good job to everyone who competed this weekend. It was a GREAT competition.
I agree California Spirit looked good this weekend. Saturday you guys did awesome loved your routine. Sunday a couple of problems with your stunts, but for being your first time out I thought you did great. I also like thier uniforms, they looked really sharp. We met a couple of the girls on your team. What sweethearts. You should be proud. Looking forward to seeing them at future comps.
I was impressed with some of the parent/fan support, in particular Roseville (although the banging sticks brought out my tylenol early in the day), NCE, Fierce, CheerXplosion, and Athletic Perfection. Others too, but those were the ones that stood out I thought. But what was with those t-shirts Fierce coaches were wearing... You Just Lost?? That's confidence I guess!
I agree Athletic Perfections got a great cheering section. I enjoyed watching all the teams this weekend. Great job everyone. The only bad comment I have about this weekends comp was the seating was horrible. Had to stand to watch the teams or you couldn't see anything.
Agree about the seating. Enjoyed watching all the teams perform. Great job by everyone. I liked Fierce and NCE there is alot of talent on those teams. The standouts to me where Athletic Perfection. Thier routines are really sharp and clean. I think they won every division they were in. Also enjoyed alot of the other teams like Ultimate, Roseville Cheer Starz, NCP, California Spirit, and Majestic. Good seeing so many talented teams. Going to be a great cheer season.
Agree on the seating, it was terrible. Too many heads in the way. Great job to everyone. My personal favorites were Fierce, Athletic Perfection, NCE and Cheer Xplosion. Some were better Saturday than Sunday, some vice-versa. The beauty (?) of two day competitions. My observation on Majestic is that their level 3 team was clearly in the wrong category, they should be level 2. I think they would have done well in that division.
I agree that some performances were better on Saturday. My favorites were NCE Nemesis . I know they were not perfect and made some mistakes, but the tumbling is awesome and you can see they have alot of talent on thier team. I'm sure that they will get even better. Enjoyed Athletic Perfection also. I also liked watching some of the smaller gyms. I enjoyed watching the level 2's and 3's. Saw alot of good routines this weekend. Some of my favorites from this weekend... Athletic Perfection, NCE, Roseville Cheer Starz, and Ultimate. I like California Spirit thought they had a nice routine lots of energy, especially on Saturday. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
I think Fierce has lots of talent but needs to be cleaner. Seems like they are just a bit to wild when they perform. I know their level 5 team wants to attend Worlds, so they should probably work on transition and being more uniform before they attend a higher level event. Just an observation. Their flexibility is unreal and their energy is great.
Had a question about Cheer Xplosion - Jr Sm Lvl 3. I swear on Saturday they did tucks and then on Sunday no tucks. Felt they could have moved down a level. Cute routine but they could have been cleaner. My knees still hurt watching one girl do a backhand spring and land flat out hard on her knees. That had to have hurt.
I saw tucks in their routine on Sunday (CX's jr lev 3), but I agree, Saturday's performance was much better. It's early in the season, I'm sure they'll get stronger as will other teams that had shakey performances.
You were not imagining it I noticed that they did cut some of the tucks in the routine on Sunday. The seasons early and everyone is still working out the kinks.
I saw a few gyms that had teams that had the talent, but lacked in the execution. It's probably a tough call regarding which level to perform in. It's tougher to be in the higher level and work on executing a clean routine. Practice makes perfect. If you drop to a lower level, you just might get too comfortable there and not push yourself. Sticking to the higher level forces you to "get it right". Right? I feel early in the season, it's fine to feel out what works. If there isn't improvement by the 4th or 5th, you know you're definitely in the wrong level. Just my 2 cents.
I agree that you should never get too comfortable and striving to be better is what being competitive is all about. But I've noticed in that there are alot of teams with kids that simply don't have the skill level to be on some of these higher level teams. The tumbling is not clean and I worry more about safety and the high rate of injuries. An example is a kid who has just learned how to do a back hand spring. They can throw it but not with consistency. But to get those extra points the coach will put it in the routine even if the child is not really ready. I also wonder if the these gyms really have the best interest of the athlete in mind, or is it just about getting more points. This is not directed at any particular gym or team just an opinion.
You have some good points, I agree. I know in the case of a team at our gym it is not the coaches who are pushing for a higher level, it is the girls themselves who feel they are ready and want to try it. They know they have the talent, and just need to work on the execution. From a business standpoint (winning more trophies) it would be to the coach's advantage to move them down a level to get the easier win. Now in the case of teams who throw particular skills one day, but not the next, it could be a matter of nerves, and rather than take a fall, they decided not to throw them if it didn't feel right? I don't know, I wasn't there, but I have seen that happen with our teams too. But I agree about safety -- if they're trying something that isn't safe, don't do it.
I seen alot of teams that were great this weekend. Remember everything is not going to go well for each team. Any given day a team can miss the mark on tumbling or a stunt.
FIERCE Love your uniforms and routines.
NOR CAL Love your uniforms and routines.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND I WILL BE WATCHING YOU. HAVE FUN AND DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN THE GOSSIP.
FASHION POLICE: UNTIL YOU BECOME A DESIGNER DON'T BE MAKING THE COMMENTS.
Those you just lost shirts from fierce were the parents, they did them themselves, there crazy! They just did it because its in The level 4 music! It definently is confidence, but hey everyone needs it!
