what are some experiences you all have had with "those" cheer parents? share your stories, observations whatever! what kind of effect do parents like these have on the cheerleaders?
I doing a project for school and quick replies would be appreciated!!! thanks guys!
You are probably looking for comments about the "crazy cheer moms," but I want to share with you, the fact that my "cheer mom" friends are the best friends I have (although we are a bit "crazy" too, but not in a bad way). My cheer mom friends are the only ones who understand what it feels like to be ready to throw up when your daughter is ready to fly in an elite stunt, to hug you when she hits it or cry with you when she doesn't. They give you a card when your daughter is distrought every day for an entire season because she is having a tumbling block. My friends outside the All Star cheer world don't understanding how stressful the comittment and sacrafice is that we make for our kids to be in this sport. We drive long distances (sometimes 5 days per week) to a gym that we feel will train our kids to not only be the best cheerleaders, but to be respectful young adults. We spend countless hours fundraising to pay for this expensive sport, we miss school events as to not let our child's team down, we take our kids to practice even though they have a fever, broken bones, a party to go to, their bothers birthday party, family vacation, etc. We do it beacause it is what our kids love and we love it too. Not every cheer parent is living vicariously through their kids. It really appears to be "crazy" from the outside looking in, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The friendships and memories that my daughter and my family have made through cheer, will last a lifetime. Thanks for everything Morton, Danny, Derick and all of the Pyramids staff past and present!
I second all of that, Pyramids mom. We are with another gym, but every sentiment you expressed fits for us too. One can only understand it if they've been through it, and we all do it for the love of the sport. Call us crazy if you wish, it won't change a thing.
