Rumor

We are talking about something else other than what the original topic was. Is that a problem? If so, go to another thread. Join the conversation or be quiet. The other topic wasn't about complaining.....

As for the topic about gyms in affluent areas, I would think they would do better even if there were more than one gym to choose from because the people could afford to send their child to a fairly expensive sport. Even though the Silicon Valley is known for it's richer than most people, it's still a majority in the middle class. The other teams mentioned down south don't have an abundant middle class. It's mostly upper class in the financial sense. That is why they do so well with so many gyms to choose from.

I know you must be joking, we have lived in Northern Cali and Southern Cali and I think Bar none the Northern Cali people (right in the silicon valley) flaunt their money more. I don't know if they have more money then So Cal but I think its a little crazy when mothers are going bonkers over Juicy bags and clothes and other items that are all the craze. Haven't all the parents graduated from high school yet? I love dressing my daughter cute but I sure as heck do not want to dress like her. I love the comedian who made the joke about chubby moms wearing juicy (he said I am sorry but all that weight does not look juicy) HE HE HE.

I lived in the Silicon Valley for 20 years before I moved to the OC 3 years ago....

You have NEVER EVER EVER seen women like the women here in the OC. Trust me. Never.......

Let's put it this way, the "neighborhood" voted down a very very VERY famous singer because of how she presented herself, and Coby had to go elsewhere also.... Silicon Valley has NOTHING on this area.

Yea, it's nuts. Thank goodness my teen remembers where we came from.

in general

In general, for middle class families, it is less expensive to live in Southern CA than Northern CA (we've done both, and have families on both ends). How that impacts how many cheer gyms are down south vs. up north, and the cost difference, who knows. It would be interesting to see.

I would love to see a study done sometime of the cost of cheer throughout various areas. Unfortunately websites don't post their fees, so it would take a lot of calling to get information. Another interesting study would be the cost of a gym vs. it's success. Less expensive could mean more members, larger pool of talent to draw from. More expensive could mean higher paid coaches, better equipment, but less members (since it costs more to join). So many factors to consider.

Most expensive

Date:

The most expensive areas in the US are: Rancho Santa Fe, Loma Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Carmel Valley, Del Mar and La Jolla (all in San Diego), New York and San Francisco. This was stated in Forbs Mag. last month. The areas in San Diego are all in the "North County" areaswhere the Bullets are located.

Cheer isn't the only expensive sport

Hey...have you all asked those that are in Competitive Softball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Ice Skating, etc., how expensive their sports are? Those sport really rack up a huge price. They catch tournaments/competitions all across the U.S., they pay lots of money for private lessons, they have to pay for their coaching staff, and let's not forget all the equipment and uniforms that need to be purchased. It's a crazy world we live in. However, I prefer spending money on my daughter...it keeps her away from all those "bad elements" out in this world. My motto "KEEP THEM BUSY...SO THEY HAVE NO TIME TO THINK. AN IDLE MIND IS DANGEROUS!"

I know lots of celebs in San Francisco and the bay area in general. Regarding the cost of living, I know we can sell our home in the bay area and buy a house for less about 40 min. from San Diego (because we considered it), so I guess it all depends on what areas we're talking about. But regarding the cost in general, I do hope there are gyms that work with families whose children want to cheer but are not as fortunate as others, wherever they may be located.

Oh, I don't actually know and hang out with the celebs, lol .. I meant I know OF them. Blackhawk is a good example of a few. Does Hillary Duff still live there?

not sure

Date:

I'm not sure what all the celebrity stuff has to do with cheer, but I do agree that the cost of living can vary even just half an hour away from another. If you're opening a new gym somewhere, I guess you do have to look at areas where people would be able to afford such an expensive sport, but still try to make it affordable for everyone in surrounding areas. Tough task!!

Cost

The cost of living in California is OUTRAGEOUS,but people also make more money here. I know because I almost moved to Atlanta and Florida. Tuition is much less at gyms in the south, but real estate/rent for building up her ein NOR CAL is crazy.
