Since I have seen with my own eyes at competitions some really bad level 5 teams, I think people need to be more specific when they say that athletes leave gyms to go to ones that offer level 5 teams. I hope what they mean is, they are leaving to go to gyms that offer a level 5 team that does consistently well at competitions, that can compete with the best of them. If I had a choice for my daughter between a highly skilled level 4 team that stands out in that category as one of the best or the best, or a level 5 team who is struggling, and probably would do better at competitions if they had more tumbling (or little to no competition), I (and she) would choose the level 4 team, no question about it. Everyone makes decisions that are the right ones for them, and I don't think a gym needs to have a level 5 team to be successful.
It is noones desire to go to a gym only becaue they have a level 5 team if they are not doing well. That's silly. I think they are talking about successful gyms that consistenly do well at competitions AND have an awesome coaching staff.
Gymtyme is in KY which is considered the south. They aren't East Coast.
I agree with the poster that said that if you can't hang in the level you've been all year then stay home. Dropping division's to win is called sandbagging. At least let's call a spade a spade!!!!!!
The Problem wrote: The problem is that teams are put in the wrong divisions to begin with. So fans, coaches, or other cheerleaders assume those teams should be in level 5 all year. To me is, if you don't go to their gym, their practices, or pay their fees, then don't run your mouth. Again teams might think their team is level 5 and realize they shouldn't of competed in that level. Why is it such big deal. Its like competing level 5 in Nor Cal all year and going to Dallas in level 4 which is a smart decision. Why are you criticized for that. I wouldn't want to compete against Spirit of Texas small coed if the skills weren't there to BEGIN with.
But that's not what she said. She said they could be competitive locally but not nationally. Then she asked the question about how people felt about it. Also if a team doesn't want to compete against SOT small coed at Dallas then drop the boys and be small all girl. Oh yea then you'd have to compete against Stingrays. LOL
I think people should also realize its hard to produce winning teams each year. Not one gym wins every year, including Cheer Athletics. To solely attend a gym based of competition results is a poor choice to me. You should go where your child is happy and they are working hard every practice.
Nobody said they were jumping ship and switching teams based soley on competition results. They were many good reasons brought up on this board for switching gyms. And yes, your child should be happy where they are at and sooooo many things factor into that happiness.
