I don't care what anyone says on here, worlds FOR SURE had farrr more injuries then any nationals I've ever been to, and I've been doing this for quite some time now.

There were so many rivals at worlds and so much pressure that I think the kids just pushed themselves harder then normal.

I don't really think any of this is preventable, I'm just making a statement that there were SO many more crashes at worlds in tumbling. Every team that went on I just held my breath, even the best teams there (Encore etc.) were falling, not because they weren't prepared but because they just put so much pressure on themselves to beat their rivals and things like that.

Of course it's preventable. Don't throw skills you don't have. I don't know what's so hard to understand about that.

THANK YOU!!!! I was really thinking I was crazy! I got so many snotty replies I thought I was totally off, but I thought I saw what you say you saw. I don't think it is simple at all. I think pressure is a real thing and it happens. Anyone who denies it is dreaming, IMHO. What I wanted to talk about here was prevention. I do believe that knowing what you are doing is a great thing, but I am sure many athletes can tell stories about how they were hurt throwing skills they knew well. I wonder if teams together can do something calming prior to competing. Or maybe confidence building is a better term. I don't know. But I would surely be interested in ANYTHING that makes these kids less likely to get hurt. (As long as it isn't snotty)

I still don't think you need to worry so much about comps, but more on practices. The difference is you see 40 teams go on and see four people get hurt and you freak out. You go to a well organized hard working gym and you may see one or two major injuried (knee back etc) and a ton of minor injuries (broken fingers, sprained wrists). Now a gym with lets say 15 teams has more injuries at practices then at any competition, where there are a lot more teams and people to get injured. Everyone sees what happens at comps, but you only see the injuries at your gym. You don't get to see all the injuries occuring at other gyms practices.

I think they understand what you said.. maybe you need to try and understand what they are saying.. its pretty much the same thing. they are just saying that it has to do with the pressure of the competition as well.

I don't know how many times I've went to my gym and went to throw a pass that was easy for me, but screwed up somewhere along the way hurdling myself 7 feet in the air to come landing on my back. I throw combo passes through to double with eyes closed one hand tied behind my back and a gallon of water on my head(not really just trying to get it through that it is really easy for me to do) and I've fallen on tucks. Round off back handspring tucks. So it doesn't matter if you have the pass down solid something can always go wrong.

My daughter tumbles fairly well herself and every single injury has been from a roundoff or cartwheel. Most injuries are flukes...... Just one wrong step is all.
