I guess you don't pay any attention to the news. If you did you would not be making comments like "this is just like any other summer". When in fact we are in the middle of a "record breaking heat wave".
As a customer of cheergyms.com I know that they have taken proper steps to make sure the kids are safe. The staff's are all First Aid and CPR certified and have scaled back the intensity of all practices. Cutting out all cardio work outs and at least tripling the amount of breaks. Plus they have been communicating to the kids about how they need to be careful and not push themselves like they normally would at a practice during this heat spell.
This is an important topic though. Kudos to whomever started it. I think it's important to be on top of safety in all our kids activities. Not just cheer and not just because it's hot.
Exactly right.., Cheergyms gyms have modified practices according to what is necessary for this heat as stated by ok ok ok.... this is great to just remind all gym owners and coaches to do the same...
This message board is great for just this reason...
No need to remind gym owners and coaches. I'm sure they are doing the right thing, because like the cheergyms staff, they're also professional and know what they're doing. It's mainly the athletes that need reminders, especially when doing anything active once they get home (like jumping on the trampoline and stuff). This is definitely no ordinary heat wave. Glad it's finally starting to cool down!
You can never be to careful. If you feel awkward at all just tell your coach and I'm sure they will understand. The last thing you want to do is say "it's ok I'm just a little dizzy. I will be fine." I am one of the people that will stop at nothing. I will work my butt off in heat or cold, but I still take my health first to cheer. I make sure I'm drinking plents of water and sport drinks before I go to the gym and a lot more when I'm working out there.
I HATE this heat! I was upset with our gym because they were working out in extreme heat and only allowed to drink water during designated water breaks. I was seriously going to keep my kid home if it didn't cool down. It was ticking me off that they get mad if you take the kid snowboarding or something where they might get hurt, them subjecting them to possible health risks that way. I have heard it said that it is a coaching technique, but I would NEVER sign up for that type of thing knowingly. Ok, I feel better now!
I don't know why people are being so mean and negative about this heat thing. Maybe the heat is getting to them.
I think what Alex and Bryan are saying is, Motions was practicing in San Jose in the 111 heat, and not ONE person was struggling. We were all sweating bullets and everything, but we got through it fine. With a lot of breaks we were hydrated.

Maybe we were just "LUCKY". Right?

I have found in the last 2-3 months this board has been filled with negative comments. I notice its more cheerleaders and parents as well. The coaches and onwers seem to try to patch it up, but some people just seem nasty when they post. Lets make all star cheer bigger in Nor-Cal, not smaller. Lets try to fix these issues so we can focus on competitons and friendships.
