Here's a new topic that might be fun to discuss before competitions start. I saw a lot of the same stunts (or very similar) used by teams throughout the season. Is it okay to copy stunts you see other teams perform? How about something you saw last season that you want to try yourself this season? Maybe something you saw at a competition you were at, or maybe just footage from somewhere. What do you guys think?
Personally, I don't see too many new stunts anyway, so even if you copied anyone, I am sure there are 25 other teams doing it already. Stunts have become B O R I N G
I think someone needs to think up something amazing for stunts because that's one of the most boring parts in the sequence now. Before it used to be the thing to watch.
I think tumbling usually is the most boring part. Granted there is some front tumbling now and people are rebounding back and doing doubles from each diagonal, but stunts to me are the exciting thing to watch. I guess its just matter of opinion.
stunts are always going to be re-used no matter if its the same gym or a different gyms copying one another. This is because of the rules. They're are many limitations on what you can do and trying to do new stunts can cause a confusion on if its legal or not. The last thing a coach wants to do is put their teams in a position of having an illegal stunt.
Stunts are limited but their are so many different things people can do. one of the problems is that all star cheerleading for the cheerleaders themselves focus mainly on tumbling. how many people go into their open gym to do nothing but stunt? how many walk in and say, i want to learn a full up stretch... not many. but alot say i want a tuck, i want a full.
but the ideas are not limited.
Pyramids coed team last year. they had really creative stunts with the whole stretch fall rewind thing. American was one of the first teams i saw that kick doubled out of elites. im sure they werent the first but one of the few. gymtyme had a sick stunt in i think their open level 5 team that won worlds. the whole full layout twist before going up in their stunts.
so the ideas are not limited. just it takes alot of work to do something new, but it gives the routine a little more edge, because not everyone will be able to throw up 11 stunts doing scorp doubles
i think evntually everone is gonna end up using the same or similar stunts at one time or another but the ones that are vey distuisable [ie cheer athletics heel stretch tilt and stingrays spinning scale stunt] DONT copy cuz chances are u will not be able to execute them as well as the original teams.
Even though I agree that pyramids had a great split flip sequence they were not the first ones in the area to use it. Santa Rosa Elite had that same stunt in there routine the year before but used it in a pyramid section not in elites.
ooo ok i apologize. i dont necessary mean that they were the ones to actually start the stunt. but they were one of the very few teams to do it. like how many hell stretch turn scorp doubles did ppl see this year? i hope that makes a little more sense
Not knowing anything about what happened, I'm guessing they mean gobs of kids left and went to Airborne? Or am I mistaken? Someone who knows clear it up for us.
To clear it up I guess that is how some people might see it. Santa Rosa Elite still has some great coaches and have very capable cheerleaders. Airborne wishes them luck for the upcoming season!
