So your saying NCE is going to field four level 5 teams. Thats kind of hard to imagine. They tried last year with their all girl and ended up level 4. They are good, no doubt, but 4 level 5 teams is amazing for a 1st year gym.

Yea, we have well over 15 teams in our gym and don't have 4 level 5 teams. Pretty impressive I would say

Our teams haven't been set yet...but my prediction of what the teams will look like is different than what "pretty sure" wrote...

-jr coed level 5
-senior level 3/4
-large senior coed 5
-and maybe a small senior level 5 (this was talked about as an option, but like i said, teams are not final yet)
-and then an open team...but thats not related to this topic...

WC Level 5

I think there is a huge difference in most West coast level 5 teams. Obviously teams like American, POWER, and Cheer force are an exception. Even the All American team was very good this year in leve 5. I just notice that many level 5 teams on the west coast don't have jumps into backs, but just back tucks. Also level 5 teams should have at least 35% of their team throwing fulls. That is why level 4 is there. you can throw standing backs and creative passes going into beautiful layouts. The things people pull out here wouldn't cut it on the east coast. If have squad backs, u better think about staying level 4 unless you have over 1/2 team fulls.

I could NOT agree any MORE with you WC Level 5. Full team standing tucks just doesn't cut it any longer. And almost everyone should be doing fulls. And I say should be very loosly. East coast teams will have EVERYONE doing them.

yea i agree that level 5 teams over here arent at the level of many "true" level five teams. but then how did so many california teams place average/good at worlds? we must be doing SOMETHING right, we just need to keep working. in five years... i think california could be on the top of the all star world.

I agree with NCE too. If we are sooo far off base over here in California, how come the California teams had a pretty good showing at Worlds. I think we are on the right track too.

I have brought up this comparison before, but here goes. I think it it like the Olympics. Some countries are always going to dominate, but does that mean the smaller countries who don't have as much of a talent pool to pick from shouldn't be allowed to send a representative.

Going to Worlds hopefully inpsires the smaller gyms to think big and go for it. I'd like to think the athletes, teams and program directors leave even more motivated to build strong healthy programs. Isn't that what we all want. Let's see Worlds get bigger and better and see the sport of all star cheerleading grow in a positive way. I have never been to Worlds, but I hope there is an air of support for all the teams.

Who out there is sooooo tired of the postings of so and so didn't deserve their bid?!
Not every team is going to have full team fulls or full team tucks from jumps. That is something to strive for. Does that mean a team shouldn't be able to compete with the best of the best!!

Well that is your point of view for thinking about it, but I think the coaching philisophies should be the same. Why is it many teams that don't have all the skills in that level compete in that level. It cannot be any easier, these are the rules and guidelines, go from there. It just baffles me how people think they are such at a high level when they aren't throwing all the skills required in that level.

Couple thoughts in response to the previous post:

In competition, there will be winners and losers, that is the bottomline. There will always be teams and individuals that are the cream of the crop, that doesn't mean a person or team cannot strive to compete at a higher level. Now that being said I also do not like it when a team competes at a higher level because 1 or 2 of their athletes has the higher tumbling skills. That is not fair to the team. Remember this is a team sport.

Second, there is no one coaching philosophy in any sport. Cheerleading is a very complex sport. This starts with forming your teams. There are soooo many factors to consider. Than there is where to compete!

The bottomline is there are directors and coaches who are passionate and extremely talented at what they do. It is a career for them. I believe they live and breathe cheerleading to be successful. Coaching or even directing a program cannot just be a hobby. It is even intense at the high school level. Won't even get into dealing with parents. The really amazing programs are truly few and far between. I think we are lucky in Northern California that all star cheerleading has grown so much and there is such a wealth of choice of good solid programs.

I know with the great showing California had at Worlds this year, that California will become a force to be reckoned with!! It has changed immensely in just the past five years that I have been watching all star cheerleading.
