Many of us are still following her AMAZING progress through her web page. She is a little fighter and such a cutie. I had the honor of meeting Sydney and her family at the AB competition. What strength they all have!
they have their own message board and updates on there.
hey cheer world,
I also follow Syndey's progress on her care pages. If you are able to, drop her a note in the mail or post on the care page message board. There is contact info on the care pages. I asked my team make cards. They were colored fun and filled with get well wishes, lots of encouragement and they were so sweet. Her mom told me she loved getting them. I had the pleasure of meeting Sydney and her mom at AB and they are definately strong spirited ladies. I am sure words of encouragement are always needed to keep the family and sydney's spirits lifted. Send her a note and put a smile on her face. You never know, she may need it that day!!!
lots of love to the Stevens Family coach Tera Cheer Odyssey
Hey everyone - Sorry I have not done a better job of keeping our cheer community updated :). Sydney is doing well. She had surgery back in September to remove her kidney and underwent radiation treatment. The treatments really took their toll on her - we basically couldn't leave the house for 3 weeks.
Currently she is still undergoing chemo and hopefully we will finish that up by March. She has her good days and her bad days.
She has been well enough to attend competitions with the team - UCF's mini team - sometimes even taking the floor with them. Jamz actually had her come out and talked about courage at the first comeptition - needless to say I was bawling like a baby :)
UCF has been terrific, but of course they are our gym and I wouldn't have expected anything less.
Cheer Odyssey has been amazing - the spirit they show in the stands is NOTHING compared to the spirit and support they have given to us. They have done everything from sending cards (regularly) to coming down and working our fireworks booth all week -even on the Fourth of July.
It was an honor to meet and sit with some of their parents, coaches and gym owners at AB and I hope to see them all again soon.
With all these RIDICULOUS posts that have been on here lately it is nice to take a step back and gain a little perspective. On December 19th it will be six months since Sydney was diagnosed... and our lives will NEVER be the same.
THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT and PRAYERS - keep them coming.
Her webpage is www.carepages.com carepage name SydneyS - I may e-mail you and ask you where you are from - we have had a little craziness (sad but true) and want to keep an eye on who is accessing her carepage
Here is a picture of Sydney & her sister Paige before a competition - Paige is a flyer on UCF's mini team - her and Sydney would have both gotten to fly together this year :)
I am so glad to hear that she is progressing well with her care! I have said many prayers for her and her family and was able to see her at JAMZ and I have to say that I cried also when they brought her up on stage to support her team! When you hear about things like this but you don't personally know them or have never seen them in person you feel for them and their family, but when you see them in person it just puts such a stronger emotion in your heart. I knew the moment that she stepped on stage who she was and I immediately started tearing up. Good luck to you Sydney and keep fighting the fight as we are all behind you!!!
After a long road of chemo, two surgeries (one of which removed her left kidney), radiation, shots, and blood transfusions she is nearing the end of treatment.
She will have her last chemo treatment on January 30th.
We get the privlege of seeing her in our gym (her sister cheers on our mini team) and she is one hardworking little girl. She is working on getting her back handspring back with an incision scar from one side of her little stomach to the other.
Cheer Odyssey has been amazing and Sydney's mom and some of the staff from UCF had the pleasure of going down to their gym last week and presenting them with some banners that Sydeny's family purchased to show their gratitude to Cheer Odyssey.
Thanks to everyone who has followed Sydney's story. Look for her at comps next year.
If you want to check out her story or follow along www.carepages.com carepage name is SydneyS.
Glad sydney is doing better! Get well soon and like caspiritlala said "cant WAIT to see you on the competition mat!" Your team is doing greaatttttttttt!!
