My cheer coach will not say cheer is a sport! He says i wish it was but im not going to lie and say it is because its not. lol He says because the judges give you what ever they feel like giving you and there is no set amount of points for each skill, its not a sport. Like in basketball you get 2 points for each shot, baseball one point for each run, soccer one piont for each goal, and so one. Those are sports.
I remember one year in the winter olympics, not too many years ago, the judges for ice skating were told to make sure a particular couple won, so they gave whatever score they felt like giving to the others and made sure they gave the winning couple a high score. So that argument doesn't hold water. Since cheerleading is really a combination of gymnastics, acro, and dance, I'm very surprised it hasn't made it into the Olympics yet. I don't think that's what it would take for it to be considered a sport, but it certainly would help!
Most of the people I've talked to that don't believe cheer is a sport also do not believe that gymnastics, ice skating, etc are sports. So, their theory would in deed still hold water.
If grown men with hairy legs and extremely ugly plaid shorts using a stick to hit a liittle ball around a field of grass is considered a sport I would most definitely consider cheerleading a sport. Nuff said!

I think you have to admit if it's in the olympics, it's a sport. Since figure skating is in the olympics and judges are free to give whatever score they choose, cheerleading falls into the same category and therefore should be considered a sport, and should be in the olympics someday.
