Who else believes that West Coast teams are not given the same oppertunities to recieve a bid as the Mid-West and the East Coast teams? Meaning that there are WAY MORE places and chances to get a bid in the Mid-West and the East Coast than there are on the West Coast. Now how fair is that, there are easily more than 6 competitions to get bids at in the M.W. and in the East and there is (lets just say for sake of argument) like 3 or so competitions here in the West. Now I know that some give out more than one bid, but still- it still does not seem fair to me.
I think it's cause there's WAY MORE teams out there and so that means WAY MORE competitions to host because there are WAY MORE gyms to attend. I think that might be why.
I am actually opposite to both of your opinions. I believe it is not as hard as it is for others. if not easier then the same. look how well the teams at worlds were represented. 11 cali teams went to worlds (i think or close around there). and also a cpl up north like a team from washington. but look at how many bids were given in the west coast. USA gave out a ton, Jamz gave out 3, GSSA gave out 3. that is a good number as it is, being that the majority of the competitions were mainly west coast teams at attendance.
now look at the East Coast and Middle East Sections. there are a bunch of small companies that give out some, but the main ones were cheersport and NCA and EVERYONE was there... well mostly. even West Coast teams went to those two. but overall it is just as easy to get a bid in the West Coast as it is anywhere else because even if there isnt as many bids given away there also aren't as many teams competing for them. (but im not saying we arent as good as them because of numbers)
I'm agreeing with Alex, and if you want proof all you need to do is to look at who attended specific competitions here in California where the bids were awarded. You'll see that everyone here in CA is spread out and we never have the situation where you are going against EVERYONE like in the midwest and east coast.
How can you say that west coast teams don't have as much chance at getting a bid. Every worldly team on the west coast got a bid and some not so worldly teams got them. Cali had the second highest number of teams competing at worlds right behind texas. Seriously so many teams got bids last season that they had to hand down the bid 3 or 4 slots. The top teams last season were Cali all stars, Cheer Force, Mavericks, Champion, and Power. Guess what they all went. They were the most likely to place high at worlds and guess what most those teams did. They got some fourths and one placed top 3. I think that everyone has an equall chance of getting a bid.

All of the California teams were "bid worthy" if you saw their performances at Worlds and heard the comments made by East Coast teams you wouldn't dare make that statement. The California teams including NorCal made the east coast stand up and take notice. We are going to be contenders for that title SOON!

The rest of the teams were not even in top ten. It would be debatable if they were "bid" worthy for sure.
You think to be bid worthy you need to be top 5. That is not a true statement at all. Even some of the programs that didn't make finals had AMAZING routines. Almost every program that WENT to worlds was VERY credible to say the least.
Wow, I have to say I disagree with most of the posts on this thread.
First, the original statement, it is not fair that the Midwest has more bid opportunities…WRONG. There are more competitive teams there, besides most of those companies are only giving one paid bid or partial bids.
We have many opportunities on the West Coast, GSSA, USA, JAMZ, and American Championships Total 7 Paid Bids. Total teams from the West Coast that attended WORLDS last year 12
POWER (2) CA All-stars (2) American Desert Storm Arizona Heat Magic All-American Motions Cheerforce West Coast Mavericks
That is plenty of BIDS for everyone on the West Coast, sorry but we are NOT at the level of competition that the rest of the country is at. Not as a whole, some teams are, but as a whole we are not.
Furthermore of the teams listed above how many traveled out of state to compete at other locations across the country for BIDS? The Answer is simple… ALL of them but the All-American team did last year. So if you want a chance at more BIDS, Travel, see the country and let the rest of the country know that there are more competitive teams on the West Coast. Please don’t think you can compete in lil ol’ California and have companies come to you with more BID opportunities, Think Again, It must be earned.
Regarding the statement of what happened to doing it for fun? Seriously this is competitive cheer. You want fun? Do a game squad for youth football or high school. Members do All-Star cheer to compete at whatever level they are at skill wise, Level 1 or Level 5. They have goals of improving their individual skills, of teamwork, performing in front of thousands, and striving for victory whether it be personal through acquiring a skill and performing it, or coming together as a team and beating out the competition. If you just want fun, stay at home, buy a karaoke machine and have a good ole time. However if you want fun because of personal satisfaction of knowing what you did was your best, that your team performed to the best of their abilities, and that your coaches gave you the best opportunity for you to achieve that, then All-Star cheer is for you. People that want just fun are in the wrong sport/activity.
World’s has not degraded the sport, it is has helped it. There is now something to strive for with one true champion. It holds gyms, parents, and members accountable for training, skill development, and routine construction. Saying Worlds is bad is like saying the Little League World Series, the NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament, or the Super Bowl is bad. Come on get real, the whole give plenty of positive stokes to kids that don’t deserve it and lets make everyone feel good times are OVER. Earn what you want in life, and don’t expect it to be given to you!
You all need to be careful here...if you claim California teams take a second to Texas, Georgia, and other States....you are going to see those teams competing for your World bids right here in California. Those "higher caliber" teams will take all your California bids. Then what will you have to talk about...because you'll be watching the 2007 World Bids on ESPN...instead of actually participating.
I think worlds is a good comp. If the other states come then let them. It is a comp for the best. If you can't beat the other states then you aren't the best are you? Work your butts off like everyone other state. If you work harder the texas florida and georgia then you will be better then them. We have nothing to lose they have everything. They are at top beating us over and over again. All of the sudden we start beating them then they aren't the best anymore. Let's just work harder then them and beat them. Plain and simple. More work the better you get.
