I have read most of the arguments for and against the rules (proposed) changes and want to mention something I haven't seen. Putting a bottom age really only benifits the older kids (mostly girls) and sets up senior teams that don't have huge bases. Without huge bases, most flyers are too heavy. There are only so many teeny tiny seniors. They shouldn't be put up if a younger girl is better. Better is safer. Isn't safety our first priority? I too hate seeing really young girls on older teams, when they are obviously too shaky and inexperienced. But lets face it, not all fulls are created equal. There are WAY too many teams having kids throw skills they aren't ready to throw just to get their count up. I read someone say that a team with 20 doubles and 2 falls should score higher that a team with 10 solid fulls. I think that is stupid to the point of dangerous, and exactly why so many teams do just that. These kids should be placed according to their skills.......not their age. If a girl who wants to fly gets passed over for a smaller, younger, BETTER flyer..or maybe one who brings more to the team, such as amazing tumbling, so be it. Get better. Find a team with bigger bases. Become a base. Keeping extrodinary younger kids down really messes up the other young kids, as they really can't compete and shouldn't have to. These athletes are exceptional, not ordinary. That is what makes them deserve to compete at their own level. One name keeps popping up...Kiara. If you wonder about age, talk to some of the kids she competes against in solos...where she HAS to compete age level. See how frustrating it is to ALL the others. Let her compete where there is actual competition for her. Let her moral education be the choice of her parents, not a stupid excuse to keep her off a senior team. If she were to take my daughter's place, we would bow out gladly as we can't compare and wouldn't want our team to be worse just to satisfy ourselves. It's funny...those who expect that for their own children always seem to be the first to cry "foul" if anyone else tries it. Ah well. Kiara is the exception to the rule and isn't the only one. But she is an EXCELLENT example and this is posted after having first asked her parents permission, so save that argument too. lol Being a tiny senior is rare, there are just so many. Bases really take a beating, and heavier flyers are more damaging to the bases bodies. Cheer is differeent than any other sport. But this is just a bad idea, IMO.
so then are you against 18 year olds competing in the Junior division? Or 16 year olds in the Youth division? Why even have divisions then? Wouldn't it make sense to just throw everyone in one big heap and let the judges sort 'em out?
Please do not bring up Kiara's name in this forum. Her parents do not like her being talked about. She's a really sweet kid who hates it when people talk abotu how good she is. She wants people to aknowledge her as kiara not that girl with amazing tumbling. The reason why these little kids deserve to be on the older teams is they sweat, cry, and bleed cheer just like if not more then the seniors do. Coming from a team that's mainly a junior team minus like 7 people makes me happy. If they were not willing to put these junior aged kids in our senior division, I would be out of a team and be stuck on a senior intermediate team throwing layouts instead of doubles. But then that happens and people say well that guy was on their advanced team last year and now he's on the intermediate team. They are stacking teams. Nobody can please everone. If they do switch the age to twelve then most gyms will only lose a few kids. The problem is these few kids are essential for the team. I don't think a team would put little kids up on a senior team if it was avoidable. And no cross overs????? Thats just stupid lol. That's my opinion on this whole fact, but please talk abotu the subject not people who are included in it. No names need to be mentioned
If she doesn't want to be mentioned, then she should quit. When you are good, people talk. Deal with it. Jeez, talk about being selfish.
But now that I sit here and think about it, you probably don't even know her or her parents. If they want to say something, then they can come here and say it. Don't speak for others. That is very very very bad manners.
Just like being famous or being good at your sport, people will talk. You have to get over that one and real quick. No one even said anything bad about her here. It's like the girls who wear their shorts too tiny or pants too low. Don't want them to look? Quit dressing trashy!!! Get the point?
Umm if you were saying i probally dont know her or her parents i do im very close with both of them. And yes i know it comes with cheer being good and all but when it gets ot the point where everyone talks abotu u its gets to overwhelming. whenever she walks out eh door at a comp she gets fans coming up to her and saying can i have ur autograph i love u so much when all she wants to do is go hang out with her friends. And her mom doesn't like her being discussed on open forums postive or not. And how is she selfish for her not wanting to be glorified???? And yes I'm sure if her mom read the forum which our owner posted that thing which she was adressed in she would have disaproved it. But the only reason why he used her is becasue she was in the letter he privatley wrote usasf and when people were talking about the changes he posted that letter to try to clairfy that usasf had emailed him saying that they were not changing rules.

I think thats exactly the attitude you shouldn't have. Your saying sweating and working hard is only for kids who want to make seniors. Again you don't have to be on a SENIOR team and throw full through to double. Watch California all stars large junior. Added to that Spirit of Texas, Georgia All stars, Top Gun, Gym Tyme, World cup and many others. Your senior team doesn't have to be level 5 . I think the problem is perception. People's mouth drops at amazing youth teams as amazing senior teams. Talent is talent. Divisions are good and appropriate.
If its okay to put an exceptionally talented junior aged child on seniors, shouldn't it be okay to put a exceptionally challenged senior aged child on juniors? I mean after all you are basically saying that junior level teams are the crappy teams since the talented junior aged kids should get to compete seniors, not their age levels.
"But they don't get to have real competition"
Take the team to texas, florida, georgia, new jersey. You'll find it.
From reading this thread I have seen some good arguments. One peoples names should not be mentioned on a post about rule changes. They should be posted on something that has to do with cheerleaders. For example there is a thread "whose the best jr tumbler in cali," you can go write up a storm about anyone you want on there. That is a topic appropiate for bringing names into. This one is not.
Second Change the rules blah blah i could care less. What I'm most concerned about is WHEN they are changing them. Teams have been made. Hotels have been booked. Competition schedules have been handed out. After all this they decide to change the rules. No that is what's wrong. Change it for next season instead of making gyms redo teams, change comps etc. For example you have three cross over flyers on one team that now need to be replaced but you have no one in the gym to replace them becasue then they will be cross overs. If the gym owner knew about the proposed new rules he would of made it so no teams had crossovers. So now he is going to need either redo his/her teams or find more people to fill in the spot. That is a lot of work.
Those gyms could have done what we did and made our teams according to the new rules and won't have a problem should they change!!!! At least our gym isn't stressing!!! And we have our schedule minus one competition that falls on the same day as another. But we have our schedule, are booking rooms, already have our stuff ordered, etc.... good thing our director is on the ball!!!!!
ANTHONY.... I will talk to you when I see you....please re-read my original post..I HAD PERMISSION from her parents to post what I did, we are friends! Jeesh, YOU need to pay attention. As for ages, the high end ages are already in place, I was unaware there were proposed changes that would allow a senior on juniors. I believe that is what the levels are for. Right? Moving to another state for your kid to cheer with actual competition seems a bit drastic, but I know it happens. If we REALLY want to put California on the map, we had better re-think that one. Shawn Herara did nothing wrong by mentioning Kiara, everyone already knows her and pretending she isn't a HUGE part of our objection to this rule change would be nuts. Anyone who wants to speak for her parents should ask them first, as I did. If you haven't, you can't speak for them.
When I say levels I mean one through 5, divisions are junior senior ect, as far as I understand it. There are special needs teams, and ALL LEVELS for skills. Unless I am mistaken
People get a life or a hobby. Pretending that one person is what all of these rules changes is about is so pathetic. No one cares is you get people approval to take adantage or not.
Chill out and care about your children not OTHERS !!!!!
huh? I tend not to post on threads that I don't think are important, but I don't feel a need to tell others what to spend their time and energy on...perhaps take your own advise? just a thought..
Chill out and care about your children not OTHERS !!!!!
So you think that people should make decisions about their own athletes instead of being told what to do by others? HMMM, sounds like an argument against forcing people to kick the 11 year olds off the team by the USASF.
The bottom line on these rules is that it is TOOOO late for this season. You cannot changes the rules in the middle of the game. Teams have been formed etc. etc. They need to revisit these proposed rules changes in January when they sit down to meet for NEXT YEAR!!!
Stop the drama and let all the gyms continue to practice with teams that were formed at try-outs.
