Thanks for that. We don't know where Roseville is either but we do know SAC. Thanks for the clarification. How often do you travel down south? And do you compete against anyone from down here ever?
Granite Bay did not travel down south this year. We competed mostly in Northern California and we went to NCA nationals in Dallas. This was the first year competing with me coaching and we had a great season. Unfortunately, GB will not be competing this year because I dont have enough time. I also coach two level 5 teams at POWER. We have a great game squad that I'm very excited about for this upcoming year. Good luck to all the teams competing next year!!
personally i have to go with granite bay! They are amazing and if you never saw them, you missed out. Yes, it had a very all star cheer look, however that is the background of their coach and many of the gilrs. Contrary to other statements, they are NOT coached by power. Their coach does coach for power as well as the high school, however they are very seperate. however this is the same for Folsom High.
I was only able to see folsom high compete once this year. At americas best in november. They were decent, however their routines did not excite me. In this head to head battle, granite bay came out on top. Had they gone against eachother again, i dont think it would have changed. Granite Bay is clearly the better team.
Well as far as I am concerned, Granite Bay is BY FAR the best team in Northern Cal. I am trying to convince my parents to move to Granite Bay just because of their awesome cheer team. I am very disappointed that there is no competition squad. I am hoping it comes back soon! I saw the girls at some local competitions and also in Dallas. They are an amazing group of girls with talent that is uncomparable. I hope to be one of those girls! If you ever get the chance, check out their amazing game squad this year.
Okay, I am from a little community around Granite Bay and I seriously like cover my mouth with my hands when it is wide open, just from watching them. I even wear green to their competitions because I fully support them and I also know that they are truly amazing girls. Like, could you do that stuff? I seriously doubt it. I know Granite Bay would win every medal in the whole cheer universe if there was a highschool battle or something. This should answer all your questions and concerns about Granite Bay and who is the BEST. Vote GB all the way, Babbay. Granite Bay is #1!!!!I wish I was a girl.
Ummm, as soon as cheergyms enters a high school team in something other than novice try to have this discussion again... All the cheergyms teams do is back hand springs, they don't double their stunts down (doubles from a prep don't count), and when it comes to who performs the most difficult routine, I don't see how you can compare novice teams to advanced teams. High school teams even entering the novice division in the first place is a huge joke. If you're the best NOVICE team in the country, you're still worse than EVERY advanced team in the country... As soon as Corondolet, Alhambra, Clayton Valley, and whoever else is competing in novice is ready to step up into the ONLY division that actually matters, we might be able to agree on who the best team is. If you think a novice team is one of the best teams in Nor Cal, you obviously know nothing about cheerleading.
Yes, this point was made by someone else earlier. People are listing novice teams together with an advanced team here and there, and it's like comparing apples with oranges. You can list your favorite teams by particular levels I guess. Favorite top 5 maybe, but not "who are the top 5". I didn't see very many advanced high school teams at all this year; most are just not at that level. I applaud those who are, the few I saw were impressive.
What level did Granite Bay compete at? I was trying to read the other posts and didn't see mention of it.
I think anytime someone lists their favorite high school team, it would be nice to list what level they are competing at, just to give us a sense of what difficulty level we're talking about. Just a suggestion. Level does matter in this sport; any higher level team can perform better at a lower level; I don't think anyone can debate that.
GBHS competed Super Large Varsity Advanced. They placed 4th at NCA in Dallas this past year. They are a great group of girls that work exceptionally hard. Their coach rocks too !!

I would like to let you know what you just mentioned was very rude and I do not appreciate it. We definitely all are able to have opinions, but it is important, with your opinion, to not be disrespectful to others. I feel very disrespected by what you said. I was one of the coaches of Carondelet last year and they competed in the intermediate divsion and placed second at USA nationals. They most definitely could have competed advanced, but my philosophy is that if you do not have the majority of your team performing advanced skills, then do not go advanced (or any other division for that matter).
My point about this post is this... We are talking Northern California, right? Are there even 5 teams in Northern California that compete at the advanced division? And if so... just because you compete in the advanced division does not automatically make you a better team. For all of those who have a cheerleading eye, realize this. I think this post is great, and people stating their opinions and the reasons for it are great, but let's remember what the thread is about... top 5 in Northern California, not how to bash or be disrespectful to others.
My opinion would be (from last year)- Granite Bay, Folsom, Oak Ridge, Cardondelet, and Clayton Valley. This year, watch out for Monte Vista from Danville : )
I agree, that post was disrespectful and their opinion could have been worded better. But you being a coach, I would think you would agree with the point that if you're going to list favorite teams (top 5 is silly, let's call them favorite 5?), then put their levels so we can all see what type of skills you're talking about. You say that your level 3 team could have performed at level 5? Maybe levels are different for high school teams.
I would love to see teams in the area go against each other, as someone else mentioned. For instance, I would love to see Monte Vista's cheerleading team go up against some of the others in that area (Amador, Foothill, Granada). I know Granada is an advanced team who went undefeated. Like the EBAL in other sports, wouldn't it be great to have something like that for competitive high school cheerleading as well? I know, wishful thinking.
Cheer Norcal coach wrote:Im gonna assume the first post was from a cheergyms cheerleader looking at the choices they made. In terms of overall strength games and comps these would be my picks 1. Folsom High School- Hands down the best game and comp cheerleaders i watched this year. Coached by UCA instructors they really have it all. They are not trained by power last time I checked. Bobby biggs and not sure of the other two coaches names have done a fantastic job with them. 2. Granite Bay, I did not have the opportunity to watch them this year but have heard they pretty much are amazing with great coaches, from power leading them all the way. 3. Alhambra High School, If you watch these kids they just have it, the it factor. They can actually do college skills better then some of the college teams i saw this year. They are also coached i believe by a UCA former instructor. 4. Clayton Valley, They were a power house all those years ago when diane ojeda was in charge of them, and had a slow couple of years having to rebuild almost the whole program which happens with all types of programs, They really came out into their own this year and looked fantastic best of luck to them. 5. Concord High School, recently I saw there name in the paper for getting i think 2nd at nca west coast classic. I actually saw them compete at the beginning of the year and again at the end of the year and have watched them cheer at games so i think they are a team to watch out for. We saw see what the future holds for them. Technique wise in games they are fantastic. You make your own opnions but really look at all angles not just that there trained at the gym you cheer at. Really look at everything if your gonna consider them the top high school in nor cal look at them from all angles.
Last time I checked, NO high school team should be doing college aged tricks. They are really going to crack down on schools who do that. It only takes a few schools to make bad mistakes to have whole states not stunt. Almost every school in Nebraska and Ohio CANNOt stunt do to many accidents and high costing insurance. Also I would argue that a few other schools are better than Alhambra and Concord.
Hi I am the cheer coach for AHS and we definitly don't do illigal tricks/Stunts! We follow the guidlines as all HS programs should...(just setting the record straight).
i think it would be awesome to have an ebal cheer comp! The only problem would be divisions because they are probably all at different levels... does anyone know what level monte vista is competing at?
