A DVD Nightmare

I know a couple cheergym teams went to this competition as well, so I wanted to share our experience with purchasing DVD's from the company who filmed Athletic Championships in San Francisco (actually, San Mateo) this past season, they're called ImageNMotion. First of all it was constantly announced at this two day event that no videotaping was allowed, blah blah blah, etc... Those of us who decided to follow the rules got the shaft. We just received our DVD in the mail a couple days ago, the competition was in January. And when we went to view the high school we bought the DVD for, only one third of their performance was on it, the rest was cut off! We expected to see the awards (we bought Day 2, which was supposed to be the entire day)? Our high school won grand champs and we wanted to see them celebrate. IF we had known this was going to happen, we would have taped, and believe me, we learned our lesson. Don't care what the announcements say, we're taping. Better safe than oh so sorry. Just some words of advice!

to dvd nightmare.....write the company a letter as you did here and explain the problems . including the time frame of how long it took to receive it...if they don`t budge and you paid by credit card (hopefully) tell the card company you received a defective product, and let them go to bat for you...

some videos are rediculously expensive for what you get, and some quality is less than desireable, and the time frame to receive the productis sometimes rediculous. I understand however that putting in titles, and names of competitors, etc, is time consuming.but that is why they are the "pros", to be expedient is the name of the game, most times...

taping your own is more desireable, no one to blame if cam is left on pause :o)

I made a DVD for my daughter. It was fine till I played it on my DVD player. I thought it was how I did it that was to blame. Then I played it again on another DVD player and it was fine. My one DVD player is too sensetive. Check it again.

Also, check with them and have them send you another (right away). It might have just been the cd itself. They wouldn't know till someone played it. And trust me, they DONT play them.

I am not a company, just a mom who learned the hard way.....

to A Mom...

Some dvd players will not play dvd-r discs, some will not play dvd+r discs and some only dvd+rw....except for the newer players with progressive scan on them.
check your owners manual...older (over 4 years) dvd players, have a hard time reading the firmware signals, if not updated. also make sure you finalize your discs of the dvds that you make..

I just received a dvd from image n motion and the quality was great. The only thing is they made a mistake on a couple divisions, but other than that it was really good. I have to say Mr. Video and Image N Motion have come a LONG way in cheerleading. The prices aren't that bad for what you get considering the quality of these DVD's are great.

Hello again. My problem had nothing to do with what plays on my dvd player and what doesn't. I probably wasn't too clear but, they only included 1/3 of the routine we bought the DVD for. They cut the rest off! They assumed it was over. And if they have come a long way, I hate to see what they used to be like! We'll continue to leave the taping to us, I can trust that we will not leave anything out, and we'll get to watch it that night.

We Also Thought

Yea, we were looking for the awards, since when we bought the DVD at the competition I specifically asked if Day 2 included them (they said yes). But no awards. Another thing to note, this company was NOT good about returning calls and emails, and you would think they would be since they're the ones who messed up and delivered them 3 1/2 months later (not six to eight weeks as advertised). Not very professional, not at all. We'll be calling them today asking where the awards are.

Leaving It In Their Hands

Sorry but I have to pipe in here. I don't mean to get on my soap box again but... this is exactly why competitions MUST allow parents to videotape. You don't get these moments back. Award ceremonies are special, I hope this company has the footage somewhere (I agree they should have put it on the DVD if they said it would be there). This isn't a case where parents decided not to bother with videotaping and decided to let the professionals do it, this is a case where they were forbidden to do so. They were given no choice, and now they have to live with the consequences. We videotaped at all of our competitions, and a few times we decided to also buy the DVD because the quality is better. But it was our choice, not theirs.

Good luck, I hope they're able to fix the problems for you.

Suggestion

I would strongly suggest that you also contact the competition and let them know what's going on. This is the reason WHY they NEED to allow us to take pictures and video. This is totally unacceptable to me also and I am not even involved!!!!

Good Suggestion

Good idea OC Mom. The no videotaping policy at certain competitions is because of a contract they have with the videotaping companies. But it means us parents are basically at their mercy if we want to see our children's performances again (and why wouldn't we?), and that is just not right. It means they can take as long as they want, and supply a product full of errors, and our only option is to get a refund, which leaves us with nothing.

I'm happy to see more competitions allowing it (videotaping), and inexcusable mistakes like this will hopefully convince others it's the right thing to do.

I agree. I truly think the tide will change on this. You really can't expect people to abide by this rule much longer. The Video and Photo companies will always make money because the parents just CAN'T get the quality that a photographer/videographer can get. And most don't want to have to take them anyway because they want to watch their child perform. But forcing us to pay for something that some of us can do ourselves, well..... that just isn't right.

I hope you contact the competition and let them know. I hope they know what kind of perdicament they put you and others in. Good luck.

I just recieved my NCA DVD from Imagenmotion 6 weeks late and only after many phone calls and emails. I was very excited to find out that I recieved all of the finals. My disappointment was refreshed when I started watching the first DVD I realized there are no chapters, or any kind of menu to let you know what divisions are on the DVD or the order of performance. Also no awards as the other parent stated.

I would really love to know what division I am watching .... it would make it a lot more fun!!!

how frustrating

geeeez, how does a company so incompetent stay in business? Competitions need to know how unresponsive they are (to phone calls and emails) and how unprofessional their work is. If the competition companies were the ones dealing with this particular company, maybe they would see what we have to go through just to watch our children perform again.
