The topic of boys getting free tuition is being discussed in another thread, but what about gyms that give skills discounts? How do parents feel about it. Obviously if its your child recieving the discount than you may be happy but what about if you are not, does that say that your child is not as important of a customer because he or she does not have a full or triple toe back?
I am interested to hear people opinions on this one. What kind of message do you feel is being sent to the programs that do this?
I think that's a good question. A program we joined our first year in competitive cheerleading did this, and I always thought it was a good idea. It gives everyone extra incentive to get their skills, and the teams all benefit from it. I think those willing to work hard deserve the break. Any extra incentive helps, and I think the goal for most organizations is to win.
I think discounts are a great as long as they are fair to everyone, especially the kids. I can imagine that out there are some parents that might push too hard so that THEY get the discount. Whatever works for you and your kids - Go for it!
Gymnastics sort of works this way, although not directly by skills. But if you break down what kids on teams pay based on their level, the higher level kids that spend more time in the gym, while they still pay a bundle, if you break it down into dollar by hour, works out to about half what the rec kids that come in for half an hour a week pay. I wonder if there are cheer programs that work the same way - where everyone pays the same or close to it, but some kids get more hours at the higher levels?
It makes sense - it's how you keep those higher level kids able to afford all those hours.
