wait a minute. If a program gives an incentive to get boys in that's there business. There are plenty of programs that give sibling discounts and free tuition to siblings girls and boys. There are also programs that give girls free or discounted tuition. Simply singling out one sex isn't fair. It's up to the gym and it really is a juicy topic , but it is really no ones business. I you don't like the way someone runs there business well there is plenty other places to go.
i dont think it matters if they discount guys girls tuition or if they dont. Its a way to get people to your gym then do it. Free tuition isnt that big of a deal. Look say guys get free tuition. They still have to pay the comps fees cross over fees and everythign but tuition its up to the gym to give free tuition or discounted so i dont see what the big deal is.
Well, the big deal is that the others have to pay for the same tumbling and coaching the freebies get. I think today male cheerleaders are pretty well accepted, appreciated, and admired. They're so impressive at the college level, and they have to start somewhere. But so are the girls!
So here's a question... to the guys out there... would you still cheer if you had to pay tuition?? Just a general question, no need to mention specifics (names or teams), just wondering! From some of these posts I get the impression the guys who are cheering for free now would quit if they had to pay. Is that true?
Another point, I was thinking about Jamz in Vegas, and all the guys on the stage impressing us with their tumbling. It sounds like a fun job. I saw more guys on that stage than girls. Also, cheerleading started off as a male sport. So I don't see guys in cheerleading as being in the minority, and therefore I don't see them needing the extra incentive. And what if you had a girl who can do a double full, but can't afford the tuition this coming season. These businesses giving the freebies, do you offer it to her too??
1. Doesn't matter whether it's fair; it's economics. There are way more girls buying the "product", so the price can be higher. When the demand from boys to cheer is as high as girls, the price will be the same.
2. Whether a gym gives a discount or doesn't makes no difference to me as long as it is disclosed to everyone up front. At our gym, the guys get a discount and everyone knows it. And the girls that are on the coed teams pay more than the girls on the all girl teams. But everyone knows it going in, so you can make your decision.
i think this topic was started by a person who was jelous of having to pay their daughters tuition when guys tuitions were free. get over it its life. life isnt fair and then we die. life has never been fair and it will never will. deal with your losses and move on. and for the question if guys had to pay would they quite. NO lol free tuition for guys is a way for gyms who want guys to come to their gym to go. lets say you are picking from one gym from antoher. they are equally good and they are both close by you. are you going to go to the one who makes you pay more or the one that you have to pay less. you are going to go to the one that makes you pay less plain and simple.
Aceded your an ACE in my book. I loved your comment. This topic was not started to argue the good and bad of reduced/free tuition. I have a boy and a girl and I do not get even a sibling discount. My son started cheering because he was exposed to it through my daughter. The discounted or free tuition could allow someone to begin cheerleading that would not have considered it in the past. Cheerleading is extremely expensive. I know Cheer Athletics and several of the top programs charge 1/2 for the boys. The girls know this and because those same guys are allowing them to be a part of a top notch coed team they accept it. I would LOVE to have it. KUDOS to whoever thought of it. If let's say Cheerforce who will have 20 guys next year because they are now financially able to and they turn into lets say a World's champion people from all over California will be crawling over themselves to sign up. Cheerforce is SMART if they build a Cheer Atletlics type program they will have alot of other people joining to be a part of that program and strive to be on that top team. Go Cheerforce!!
As stated earlier, free tuition does not mean that we, the parents of the girls, are paying more for the guys. It means that the gym and the coaches are willing to sacrifice some of their profit to make our teams better, and I appreciate that sacrifice. Part of being a winning team includes full support from the owners, the coaches and the kids and our team has all three. Good marketing is the key, and our team has the full support of the owners, who, since day one, have been willing to contribute to the overall success of our teams, sometimes making huge sacrifices! If boys were completely free, I would be very concerned about their level of commitment, but when you add up the other costs (competition fees and uniforms), tuition, especially in our program, is minimal. THANK YOU SHAWN, BECKY, AND MILLER! WE LOVE YOU
My son was on a team that did not give any preference to the sex of the cheerleader. While I understand the reasoning for giving free tuition, I have always paid. He was the first male in this particular gym (other than college team) and that 1st year I would have been more than willing to pay for him & let another boy join & not pay. And paying was very difficult for me with two kids in the program. I think that when we started it would have been a great idea to let the boys cheer for free just to get them in the building! The next year we got two more & the year after that we had 4. Now I don't know if free tuition would have helped but I sure would have like to find out. That 1st year was very tough for him. I understand everyones point of view & why don't we just leave the choice up to the gym owners. If you can't join one gym due to $ then go to the next one. And if you really want to join that particular gym then there are always ways of fundraising. I hope to see more boys in the future join whether they have to pay or not. Good luck to everyone!!!!!
I hope to see many more boys too, because once there are as many guys as girls, the tuition will have to be equal because gyms won't be able to afford to give free tution to half the organization. Sort of like the issue of affirmative action, hopefully someday there will be no need for it. Until then, you do what you have to do!
This question still has not been answered. What happens when you decide it is time to charge these boys? Or do you always make it free to boys. Cannot help but think it gets messy.
Another thought! I love to watch an awesome allgirl routine. Look at Power! There's proof that you don't need the guys to go to Worlds!
How about just focus on building an awesome program?! Someone tell me why it is soooo important to have the boys anyway. Once again look at Power large and small teams!!!
What is the situation in other parts of the US? Are they doing this? Did they do it to get the boys in the door and stop? I am curious to hear from a well established program who is doing this. Did you do it in the beginning and than stop, or are you still letting boys cheer free.
is that legal? wrote: In this day of equal rights for all, it seems like this cuuld be a law suit in the making. I you have a family who can only afford to send one of their two girls to cheer, do you waive tuition for the second or even third child? Just curious?
I wonder this too. With all the back-biting that goes on I would be curious to hear the legal side of this. Anyone know?
i dont think you can put a lawsuit on this topic considering its up to the owners. its just like giving discounts to people who cant afford it. are you going to sue teh gym because someones child loves to do the sport but cannot afford it so they pay half teh tuition cost or something. if you do thats pathetic. its a way to get guys on the team. when you see topics abotut eh best teams in the world you see coed team all over not all girl. generally coed teams are better. guys are strong can partner stunt(some girls can but guys are just more muscular and its easier for them its the was they are made) and all guy teams.....girls are more flexible then guys. coed teams are the best no doubt in my mind not bringing down power or anything they are awsome but coed teams are still better

Acutally, you can most definitely put the topic of lawsuit on here. It's called sexual discrimination and it's against the law. It's not the same as charging less for those who can't afford it, it's not the same as charging less for siblings. It's not the same as charging less for skills.
Exactly! That's what I am talking about. If a childs family can't afford cheer it becomes a "financial hardship" and if a gym is willing to help the family out that great. But it shouldn't matter if your child is a girl or a boy... if your broke your broke. sexual discrimination is wrong regardless. (my opinion) We all know cheer as well as other competitive sports cost money boy sport or girl sport money doesn't discriminate. And pesonally I feel that the gyms who are giving their services away for free to boys only are really selling themselves short. Boys will join cheer free or not if that is what they and their parents want. I also think it sends a bad message to the girls who work just as hard and who's parents work just as hard to pay thier tuition. I doubt anyone would pass up free tuition for their children, but when I mentioned law suit I was refering to gym vs gym. The way some people are worried about checking ID and birth cert. and if kids are crossing over, be recruited, flyin from Hawaii... you know all the stuff everyone complains about here.. I could just see the next battle being boy paying gyms vs boy non-paying gyms. Full of tuition Mom
It's good to know that discounting or giving a free ride to the boys is grounds for legal action. I've always wanted to sue the bars I've been to that let the ladies in free for ladies night.
