Question For Morton

Ages, Proof & Validation

Morton, this one is for you.....

Do you think in the future that the "Powers That Be" could make some sort of system where cheerleaders are required to PROVE the age that they are and have some sort of registration?

Is there something in the works SOMEWHERE?

This came up at JAMZ and I personally overheard (no rumors, my own ears actually heard it) that some kids were placed on lower level teams than they should have been on. But unless we called other gyms liars, there was nothing we could do.

I felt so helpless.......

Signing My Name Cause I Don't Want To Start Rumors...

Kris

Note To Readers: NO I WILL NOT NAME NAMES ON HERE. WHATS DONE IS DONE BUT I WANT TO KNOW THAT IT WILL NOT GO ON FOREVER. And if your team did it, shame on you. I am very disappointed in you. Just know that our gym does not do this and we will NEVER do this to our OWN children.

RE: Ages, Proof & Validation

What do you mean? Do you mean like for example out Senior 5 team has 2 10 year olds and 2 nine year olds 3 have fulls 1 has a double and 2 compete in the Mini Division and 2 compete in the Jr Division should they not do that? I mean its their age bracket or do you mean illegal ages competing. Clarify please!!

southbay had this happen to them at gssa, someone accused them of having a couple kids over 18 by the cut off date. after those 4 kids showing their drivers license to the company and the rest of the team signing a paper, it was fine.

cheer athletics also had this happen to them, they chose to turn down a paid bid to worlds because of it.

i do think it would be easier if there was some sort of registration for all star cheer like there is for pop warner, its just so much more official.

yes we definetly had to get every person with some kind of identification to give it to them to prove our age as well as sign a paper stating we were the correct age. I though it was crazy.

It's already starting: Everyone competing at World's has to provide a copy of their birth certificate. And the gym/coach has to see the original and make the copy.

Yes, I was asking about specific allowed ages..... and they wouldn't have drivers licenses to prove anything. No one is required to carry birth certificates, so everyone in that division was out of luck. I don't know if they won or not but it was heartbreaking to overhear.

Yes, The USASF is trying to put into place a system similar to gymnastics. Students and coaches would be registered to a gym or program and get an ID number with a card, possibly a bar code. It is a couple years away, but will really help with keeping track of age violators, stats in injury, coaches’ certification and a bunch of other stuff that will really help our industry. Great question!

I think this is about older kids dropping down, not younger kids performing up.
