How many routines is too many

The gym where my daughters go always has a plan to perform two different routines throughout the season. I was wondering if other gyms prefer to use one routine the whole competition season or have their teams do as many as possible? What is your preference? Do you think performing more than one causes stress? Do you think having more then one routine keeps the kids more interested?

At our gym there is one routine but it is recoreographed as new skills are learned. It changes often sometimes too often but the kids never fail to amaze at how well they adapt to the changes. Cheer is never boring that is for sure.

The way to go is one routine with adding skill difficulty level as the team progresses thru the season. Some change is good, but not too much. Alot of the confidence on the floor comes from the team's repititon and knowledge of a routine. If the routine is second nature to them, their showmanship really shines.

I have to say, I've never heard of a team learning more than one routine. Changing a routine as skills progress and things do or don't work on the competition floor, sure...but an entirely seperate routine? I can't imagine where 1) you'd find the time and 2) you'd be able to fully master 2 routines that show a teams full skill level.

i'm on a team where one year we moified the routine so many times, to adjust many diffrent things such as, tumbling stunts, and formations. However this year my team has learned at least 3 diffrent routines, that have jus gotten better and better each and everytime we learn it. i personally think that if you can pull of teaching your team a whole new routine and get away with it, then go for it, but if your team cant even master one routine i think its def. much safer to stick with it and make that ONE routine PERFECT!

I teach two routines a season and my girls do fine! They actually enjoy its because it is NEW! I do modify the orignal routine and also add difficulty to the new routine. My girls get so excited to start a new routine. I think it is possible to learn two routines and perfect them. I have found the time and my girls work their butts off. Now if the routine wasn't up to standards where it is safe and clean, I wont let them perform it and we'll go with the modified old routine. Some coaches like to take the safe road and just add to the original and make it better. It depends not only on the coaches but also the kids involved.
