RE: Which Competitions to go to & which to avoid

Couple of responses about things mentioned here related to Cheersport:

Up front disclaimer: I've said before that this is my favorite competition (Jamfest close second).

Anyway regarding the discussion on schedule. Yes, the program is great and cheap. They don't have schedules to hand out. I think there would just be too much paper. But they did post the exact schedule for both days, every arena, every team three weeks in advance on their website in pdf. I printed them off and took a couple of weeks to highlight the teams that I wanted to see and figure out where the coaches were going to be that I needed to meet.

I know that people want variety in food, but I think that is controlled by the venue and not Cheersport. I think it is the same way at virtually all other competitions.

Like most others, they don't allow videotaping (advantage Jamfest), but compared to the other things they do, I feel this is a minor inconvenience.

The thing I like the best is the way they treat the special needs division. I've worked with them on this for the last 4 years and they have never denied us anything we need. We had 8 teams there this year and they got to compete right along with everyone else. Lots of pride created that weekend.

Thanks for the additional feedback. We will get the World Bid winners up on the website tomorrow. An oversight on our part.

Results are posted just as Cheersports said they would based on the response on this message board. Now thats what I call listening and following through. Thank you Cheersports for such a great competition.

This is why they had 70,000 people fly from all over to attend their competition. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY......

To the Spirit Sports Announcer (San Diego) when you made the announcment "tough, deal with it" when there were complaints about the exceptionaly loud music..... I can almost guarantee that this wouldn't happen at CheerSport..... and I bet they will find out who you are and make sure you aren't working for them either!!!! BAD BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

And guess what. Their music was loud enough to hear, and low enough to be able to speak to the person next to you......

I truly hope other companies are reading this also.

THANK YOU CHEERSPORT FOR SETTING THE STANDARDS!!!

I was wondering if anyone else thought the music at American Championships in Anaheim was actually too LOW last weekend? Maybe it was just me but was very hard to hear at times. I enjoy it when is a little louder, just my opnion.

Hmm, I thought the music at American Championships was just right. We were sitting at the very top and could hear it, but it wasn't blaring, it was a nice.

Question for Spirit Sports, since someone from there reads the board. Can you tell us the exact reasoning behind the no videotaping rule? I wouldn't say most don't allow it (for us this year, half allowed, half didn't). Is it really true we don't get to tape our kids because the video companies (who are charging such outrageous fees and taking weeks to complete) won't allow it? Could us parents ever have a choice at Spirit Sports to tape or not to tape? This may be a minor issue to AceDad, but it isn't to most of the parents I know. You know we sneak them in anyway, but it's a shame we have to hide it. Give us the scoop, thanks!

Sorry, I messed up!!! The question is for Cheer Sports, not for Spirit Sports, although I'd like to hear from them too if they're reading! (American Championships too)

So that's why I see folks wearing large coats and carrying bulky bags, sitting in corners! Seriously, we should not have to feel like criminals just because we want to videotape. Not all of us are able to spend $$$ to buy these DVD's at such ridiculous prices. I'd like to know the real scoop too, and who is going to step up and make some changes (Jamfest, you rule)!

Is there a way to move this topic up so we don't lose it to the second page? It's still going strong and no one is fighting!

Regarding the threads moving to the second page: From the front "Anonymous Arlene" page, you can look at the bottom right and sort by Last Modified.

Would be nice if this was the default.

just came back from usa nationals day one. Great competition. They have really improved . They ran on time you could video tape. It was alittle more expensive 30 dollars for a 2 day pass. They also charged 5 dollars for programs but they were nice ones. The warm up area was great lots of spring tracks and spring floors. Considering the last time I was at a usa comp. they have really improved.

We just came back too and it will be the last time for our gym. I didn't see much of an improvement and especially since the other organizations are so way beyond them.

To Really, it would help if you listed what in particular you didn't like about USA's Nationals, instead of stating you won't go back and you didn't notice a difference. Was the judging still questionable? That's always been our problem with it (and lack of real competition). Let us know.

I didn't need to list them since they've been listed a million times. Just didn't want to state the obvious and already discussed. Same ole problems, different competition.

That makes me sad to hear, actually. USA really has an opportunity to lead the competitve scene on the West Coast, but they've made it more than crystal clear they just don't want to listen to their customers.

PLEASE come out this way more than just once a year. We'd love to see you up in Nor Cal!

Another competition that we really enjoyed (I forgot about this one in my original list) was CheerNation. The stage was set up high so parents and fans could jump around in front (which really was fun, both for us and the girls), the warm ups were well-organized, it ran on time, and allowed videotaping.

Here's a great example of what went on at USAs this weekend:

A team that I know the coach of was in a division with one other team. They competed prelims Friday and finals on Saturday. After prelims, USA put both teams in the division through to finals.

On Saturday morning, some random team shows up that did not even compete on Friday (I don't know why - if they missed a flight, whatever, I don't know). USA puts this team into the finals on Saturday and bumps the 2nd place team out entirely from even competing in finals. For a team that hadn't even been seen by the judges yet to know if they belonged in that 2nd spot or not - much less that it's just wrong to take away a finals spot already given.

Just another example of the great ethics of the USA organization...

RE: Which Competitions to go to & which to avoid

Not to defend USA, but MOST teams did not have to compete on Friday. So maybe this team wasn't even scheduled to compete Friday night. (You can look at the differences between Friday and Saturday lineups on www.usacamps.com) Friday decided if you would be able to compete on Saturday. Saturday's competition determined if you would move on to finals on Sunday. So, unless your team was bumped from the Saturday competition, I can only assume that your team was the 3rd place team out of 3 and they only advanced 1 and 2 to finals on Sunday. So was your team only allowed to compete on Friday? Or did they compete on Saturday too and then get bumped?
