I heard the jr. coed division was amazing in its entirety. All the teams were amazing, so it was just plain hard. I heard South Bay came in last out of 8 teams I think. There score was 8.7 something. So it was good for their 1st time going out there. Just what I heard, im waiting for the results to be posted online somewhere.
in prelims southbay 8/8 and today thats where they stayed. it was a very tough division..sbe was not at thier best on the first day. "crossing fingers" thanx for wishing us goodluck!!! hopefully it will be a better turnout for us next yr!
Anyone who has ever been to Dallas knows that it is CRAZY. Teams from the south that would drop our jaws out here end up 15th in Dallas.
All I know is SBE's Jr CoEd is the best I've ever seen in Nor Cal and I know I speak for all of Nor Cal when I say props for having the guts to compete in a downright vicious division!
There is so much more to learn from attending a competition like NCA than just worrying about your placement. The experience in itself will set the bar for SBE for the next couple of years. Way to go out there and give it your all!

Wow...You all are so nice on this board it gives me goose bumps!! I am addicted to reading this message board and enjoy the comments made from people all over the country. I went with my daughter to Dallas and let me tell you I was not prepared for the talent I saw. AMAZING, I have never seen anything like it. SBE Jrs do have alot of talent, and we did have a few errors, however the conclusion I came to while I was there is this......I would love to see all of California all star teams improve so much that we can compete against the south. I know we can do it!!!!!So all you cheerleaders work together and step it up, working hard you will all get there!!!Thanks.
There are kids that love the sport enough to go to 3 or 4 practices a week, but that still does not guarantee a bid to nationals. I feel that the 2 main ingredients to a sold program are the size and how much money can be spent to build the program.
When you have at least 4 or more All Star Programs in 5 mile radius of each other you are only winning to survive one more season or bragging rights. With so many options for kids to choose from other programs, local school or Pop Warner/PAL you will never have a squad that will really stand out year after year.
And then it’s all about $$$$. It’s tough to share one floor when you have 3 or 4 teams. To have a large enough gym in CA you need $$$. Then you need spring floor and a tumble track or a trampoline or crash pit. Not to mention actually paying for solid coaching staff. Then there is advertising “uniforms”. Why is it so hard to pick the right colors? Just about every name and color pattern has been used.
So no.. Its not just about time spent in the gym. Too much time and you can get burnt out!
I never fail to be amazed when a Nor Cal team goes to NCAs and is stunned when they get clobbered. As a cheerleader, NCAs WERE my Nationals every year, and it was actually tougher then than it is now, because in those days they didn't have divisions by difficulty, just by age! It blows my mind when a team thinks that because they have 5 fulls and stunts with double downs that they can go to NCAs and clean up. NCAs show THE best of EVERYTHING - tumbling, stunts, choreography, dance, etc. The top 5 teams will have 90% (at least, now some have full-squad) fulls and at least 25% double fulls. Their stunts will be not only difficult, but rock solid and creative. The dances will be so fast and creative that your head would spin.
So to go and compete against these teams, yes, is awesome...but at the same time, to take your averagely-choreographed routine with only half your team tumbling with the other half standing on the back line with stunts that shake and travel (and I'm not aiming this at any program that's gone to NCAs...there have been several that have attempted it in the past few years and the results have all been the same)...it's just not going to go well. These Texas/Florida/Kentucky/Georgia teams not only have all the difficulty, but they bring the entire show to the floor, complete with awesome showmanship and perfect form in everything they do.
It goes back to the whole thing - are you REALLY at the level of the team you are on? Because these teams from the south - they all are. All their level 5 cheerleaders truly ARE level 5. Not just 10 level 5 cheerleaders rounded out with whoever was left over to put 30 on the floor. And that is the difference between the top teams at NCA and our Nor Cal teams.
And again - this is not a knock on SBE or anyone else who has gone to NCAs from Nor Cal. There are tons of teams that really have no idea until they get there and have their spankies handed to them. It just shows how much harder we all have to work to catch up to these teams. We've come a long way in the past 3 years or so, we just need to keep at it!
