Sonoma/Marin are the only counties that don't have a cheergyms.com nearby but like someone else already stated there are a lot of good programs established in those areas and actually they cover Sonoma/Marin pretty well...Airborne and Cheer University are in Petaluma, Santa Rosa Elite is the furthest North off the 101 and then there is NCP (formerly Marin Eagles) in Novato...so I suppose one in Mill Valley right before the Golden Gate Bridge might work...interesting idea tho. I think that if cheergyms can find someone to put it all together it would be worth trying to do in the Sonoma/Marin area.

I am familiar with all the programs in the Sonoma/Marin Area---Airborne being the biggest in the area now. They are a compliation of Santa Rosa Elite and Sonoma County Cheer University. So Cheer University and Santa Rosa Elite are now smaller programs since many of their cheerleaders went to Airborne. I know Cheer University and Santa Rosa Elite are working hard to try and rebuild their programs. I am sure Airborne will have a good strong program. But alot of us love cheergyms and their approach to coaching and allstar cheerleading. All star cheerleading is just now picking up momentum north of the golden gate bridge. I think now would be a good time to bring back Atlas!!!

well when atlas was here before they didnt even have a gym or a full floor to practice on which is why i think they never had too much enthusiasm from people to join. i think they might do well if they had their own established place, but i do know airborne seems to kinda be taking over sonoma county, they have 7 teams in an area thats not a huge cheerleading area(although it is growing) there are i think like 3 or 4 programs that started this year too, dont know the names of them, but i agree with the other post that says if atlas comes back maybe closer to the bridge where there arent all of these other gyms popping up blocks away from each other

I agree that the lack of facility--spring floor--was part of the issue previously for Atlas. As we have seen in other areas of Northern California, several programs can exist near each other. I think it gives parents and cheerleaders the option to find a program that best fits what they look for in a program.

I think teams like airborne and So. County Cheer University is what northern California needs. Last couple competitions it seems like this part of the state has the same style and look. Clean simplistic stunts, straight pony tails, white bows, and basic to intermediate tumbling, other than the few level 5 teams. Now there are a few programs trying to break the mold , but its hard when one type of all star cheerleading dominates. Cheergyms.com has wonderful programs, but should focus on building those ones up before opening up another gym.

If the cheergyms teams are so basic, non flashy, and boring, there shouldn't be much of a problem breaking the mold. When someone says that cheergyms.com should focus on building up the current gyms before opening up another gym, they just really confuse me. cheergyms.com gives a certain kind of customer exactly want they want and need. That certain kind of customer is somehwere around 2000 by the way. I know that Danny and Morton recieve at least an email per week requesting a gym in one area or another. Believe me, their focus IS on the current gyms. There's a lot more to consider than what Level your teams are at and how many double fulls your gym has.

As for Atlas in Sonoma County. Atlas will most defintely return but not any time soon. Airborne, SR Elite, and others are doing a great job but the area is still very raw when it comes to competitive cheerleading. From a technical standpoint, maybe some of the best teams in Nor Cal. But from a business standpoint very young.

While I'm not a CG employee or customer, I do know a few on the inside. I'll see what I can do to get that hair curled.

Well just let the record speak for itself. Cheergyms. com had a Pyramids of Sacramento about 4 years, ago, then it folded. Then Atlas was there and was a good program, folded. Now they are doing very well competitive this season, but it seems like they don't grow or the retention is not there. I look at the number of kids and how long these gyms have been around. Im a huge supporter of their programs, but also have seen them alot longer than most people have. Im sure Cheer Athletics gets emails to start other gyms elsewhere too, but they focus on getting their core gym(s) strong. I think building up your current customer base is very key, then focus on expanding.

As far as technical skills go, they are doing fine. Hair styles are up to indivudial coaches, but it just seems northern california has set no trends in the "entertainment" factor in all star cheer (uniforms, music, make up, or hair). I do think South Bay is up and coming this season. They have changed there style up a bit and coming off very strong.

I am very familiar with what is happening in the Sonoma area as I live over here and have been involved in allstar cheerleading with my daughter for over five years as a mom and as director of a program. It has exploded and there is amazing amazing talent here. Yes there are quite a few programs over here. Airborne will be very successful. Programs such as SCCU and Santa Rosa Elite will hopefully rebuild, but it is going to take someone dedicated to rebuilding it who is passionate about it as a career. This is why Airborne will be successful because Nicole is very passionate about it!!! Now, as far as cheergyms coming back into this area, I think it would be awesome and it would also be a perfect time. Santa Rosa Elite and Sonoma County Cheer University really opened everyone's eyes as to what allstar cheerleading is. Sure there is raw talent over here, but like I said earlier amazing talent!!!! I for one am a fan of cheergyms and I think that there is room here for them. Remember, each program has a different philosophy. Some the focus is on the trophy others try and do offer an overall rewarding program. That is what cheergyms does very well. When Atlas was here before there wasn't as much buzz about allstar cheerleading yet, Atlas did not have a spring floor to practice on, and they had a great coach in Lauren. I think lack of facility was their biggest issue. So, I hope they find the space and a coach. The more the merrier!!!

I would prefer to see a non-cheergyms in that area simply because the whole corporate thing gets a bit old (all their teams looking the same, competing against each other, etc). It would be fun to see smaller gyms challenging these big corporate gyms (Cheergyms, Power). Not being down on either, I think their both great - but I like the individuality of smaller gyms!

Cheer Mom,

Thank you for your kind words. I feel that more gyms in the area offer more options and makes the kids in our area more competitive at the same time. We wish everyone the best of luck for the rest of the season!

I'm always amazed at people that get on other people's boards and try to make something negative out it. Cheergym.com is one of the oldest, largest, and most respected organizations in the NorCal area. They are known across the nation, not just in California. Don't hate because people don't know who you are or are intimidated by the fact that they're successful. Leave the competition on the floor because by the looks of things from here they've got pretty much everyone beat when it comes to program numbers - check them out at whatisprox.com and listen to there numbers - I personally would call that something of a success.

By the way I'm a cheergyms.com fan, not a team member and have a great deal of respect for not just what they have done for the kids in the bay but what they've done for cheer in northern california. They're one of the few that still manage to teach good sportsmanship.

It looked like the topic started off for a positive, so stop trying to turning it into something else. If they come to your town, you can count on kids jumping on that band wagon simply for the name. I'm thinking that's what's really bothering all these negative people.

On a lighter note if they don't want you in Sonoma/Marin area we'd love for you to come to the Elk Grove area! Cheerleading is booming here in the valley! Maybe someday -

Keep up the great work cheergyms.com

Wow Cheergyms fan, talk about someone turning this into something negative, you certainly did just that. Folks are allowed to post their opinions on this board. I don't know which post yours was directed at, but I see nothing wrong with someone stating that it would be nice to have more smaller gyms than adding to the bigger corporations. More competition, more individuality (as the person stated). I think the other post was just making an observation on how the teams all look alike, nothing wrong with that. I'm grateful Power and CheerGyms are around, they are top notch organizations. But I'm also very grateful for all the smaller gyms that have done well for years and continue to give the big guys some great competition. The more the merrier, right?

Not Negative: You stated, Folks are allowed to post their opinions on this board...but did you read the topic first. If I read it correctly the thread read: Who wishes cheergyms would start up Atlas again in Sonoma/Marin Area? I didn't read anywhere in there where it said Should Atlas return why or why not? But threatened people tend to turn things as simple as that question into a negative and attached such a great organization. I guess it comes with the territory, but I'm guessing they sit back and laugh at people who have nothing better to do than make comments and be jealous. Most "smaller" gyms would kill for the reputation, size and success of the larger programs. I can't imagine smaller gyms do tryouts to stay small everyone wants to be a Power or cheergyms size of gym. It's still a business.

It's all about quality, not quantity, cheergyms fan. How arrogant of you to assume they're all jealous and wish they could be big. Big isn't necessarily better, I think there are a couple teams out there who might attest to that.

And when someone posts one of those "who here would like..." messages, it's OKAY to say "not I", as long as they're nice, and I didn't see anything mean spirited about it.

Actually some of the best gyms in the country are 5 teams or less and choose to stay that way. It has nothing to do with business, quanity, quality, or franchising. It has to do with kids feeling like they are part of something the moment they walk in the door until the moment they leave every night. No matter how much it is, a parent will sacrifice to keep their kids in something if they are truely happy. Yes, Cheergyms. com and Power are VERY VERY successful. I applaud them on their efforts, but I would think their numbers would be higher and retention would be longer for as long as they have been around. I think they are a model for other gyms in a lot of areas to say the least. If they start Atlas again, then good luck. Colony just opened and their other gyms I think should get some attention before opening up a brand new gym this soon.

It amazes me how these message boards get crazy! This isn't about small versus big etc. Remember there is plenty of room for everyone big and small. Each has it pluses and minuses. By having both, it gives people options for programs. I repeat it is not all about big or small. If you look and dig deep each program has a vison and philosophy. You need to find a program that fits your child. Some people are concerned about the trophy others want everything else that can go with it such as team bonding, safe environment etc. There are big programs and small programs that their vision is all about worlds and than there are big and small programs who are striving to offer the entire package. So I guess what I am saying is size does not matter, vision does!

As for the previous post mentioning Colony, the original question was regarding getting cheergyms over in Sonoma and Marin. There are many fans over here! Many people who love Danny and Morton and what they have done for allstar cheerleading!
