2011-2012 Head Cheerleading Coach: Varsity/ Program Advisor
Position Summary: The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for overseeing the entire NMHS Cheerleading Program.In addition, the Head Cheerleading Coach will solely run the Varsity cheer team.They are in charge of choreographing and teaching cheer routines to the Varsity cheerleading squad.The coach is responsible for conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at mens football and basketball games and any other event/activity that the squad attends.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversee Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity cheerleading squads
Choreograph and teach cheer routines to the Varsity cheerleading squad
Conduct Monday and Wednesday summer practices from 6/20-8/22 from6:30-8:45 PM
Attend cheerleading camp with the team each summer (August 11-14th,8:30 AM-4 PM).
Conduct Monday and Wednesday school year practices from3:30-6:30 PM
Supervise and direct the cheerleading squad during mens football and basketball games (Friday night football games, Tuesday and Thursday night basketball games)
Conduct the NMHS Competition Cheer Squad practices and attend at least four cheerleading competitions and Nationals
Enforce the rules of the squad, including those regarding tardiness, missed practices and/or games, and inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct (see 2011-2012 NMHS Cheerleading Contract)
Consistently keep cheer parents informed with monthly newsletters and individual cheerleaders progress/concerns
Check each cheerleaders grade report at the end of every quarter to make sure all athletes maintain a GPA of no lower than a 2.0 without F grades
Hold tryouts to select new members of the cheerleading squad for the following season in April
Secondary Responsibilities:
Promote a spirit of cooperation, friendship, and good sportsmanship between the cheerleaders and other teams
Encourage cheerleaders to participate in other campus events and community service projects
Plan team-building, morale-building activities for the squads
Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree required
Must have extensive training and experience in cheerleading, gymnastics, and/or dance
Requires excellent communication, managerial, and planning skills
Organization Relationships:
The Cheerleading program is part of NMHS Activities Office.The Coach reports directly to the Activities Director and Athletic Director.
