RE: Welcome West Coast Allstars to our Pacific Coast Magic Family!

I just saw their teams posted. I think it is so dumb that all the gyms not only PCM are posting the teams with no levels except for level 5's. Why not post any levels- and why post that a team is a level 5. Why are they not like everyone else and wait till the end of summer?

I think post all the levels or post none- level 5's do not get any special priority IMO!

Many gyms train their teams for a month or two before designating how they will compete.

Great question ugotit2 and here's an honest answer. It may not be the case for ALL gyms but I believe it is for most.

It's generally easier to post specific teams for Level 5's. There are usually less total athletes to consider. You either have em or you don't. It's basically pretty clear right away what team(s) you'll be able to form. True Level 5 athletes are in high demand and if you don't spell out what you can offer them they'll move on to the next offer.

With the other levels there are most times 104 different combinations of teams you as a coaching staff can form. Once you announce these teams it is very hard to make changes so you want to be confident in your decisions. Many gyms like to take the summer to closely evaluate the athletes and find the best combinations.

In this day and age of "I'm gonna take my ball and go home" all star cheerleaders it is not uncommen for gyms to lose 30% of their athletes right off the bat when they announce teams directly after try-outs. Let's face it...Level 2's think they're 3's, 3's think they're 4's and so on. And evvvvvery gym has that one gym near them that says "What? You can't do a tuck? No prob....you can be on our Worlds team!"

Now I know you're thinking so what... let em leave but it's not that simple. Most gym in Califonia need a minimum or 50 All Stars just to meet their basic expenses. As a gym owner it is very stressful. You'll do anything to retain your customers. Stalling to announce teams is a small and honest tactic. It gives the coaching staff a chance to help each athlete understand what is best for them, what will help them have a safe and happy season, and even give those that where underestimated at try-outs a chance to truly show their potential.

Bottom line, I'm a gym owner and I've never had to commit my child to such an expensive and demanding sport. I can only imagine your frustration. Here's my advice and take it for what it's worth. DO NOT sign contracts at a gym until you are 100% sure that you have full faith and trust in the owners and coaching staff.

Once you have that faith and trust...who cares when teams are announced. Right?
