Tryouts

lifelovelive wrote:

so now that June is coming to an end....i find it funny how some of the coaches have come on here and posted that their gyms have well over 100 kids and over 10 teams after tryouts yet some of their kids are cross competing on 3 teams...why? I mean isnt there enough kids that your gym has plenty of space for each child that you would not require anyone to cross compete? I understand that it could be hard to find a quality flier but wouldnt that be a coaches job to train these kids to be a good flier instead of taking the easy way out and just getting another kid to cross compete? If i were at your gym I would not be happy to pay the fees and know that my child was not getting the training that she should be getting

Wow, crossing on 3 teams is pretty intense. I know that we try and reserve using crossovers to cover injured kids, kids who can't compete, etc etc but I know it's unfortunately becoming common practice for a lot of gyms to have their minis/youth age kids cross as seniors to fly (I'm guessing they think smaller=better?). Regardless though, you said you weren't a member of the crossover-crazy gym you're speaking of, so this all seems a little irrelevant (unless of course you're trying to bash a program to which you don't belong, which to my understanding is against the rules of this board). I think that as a parent/consumer the way to communicate that you don't like the way a gym operates is to deny them your business and have your child train/compete elsewhere and let that be that

there has been plenty of bashing on this board between a couple of people just going back and forth and some other people have tried to step in and change the subject so why you feel that I am bashing a gym is something I'm not understanding unless its your gym that is doing this. But since I dont know who you are or your gym no I am not bashing a gym simply stating a fact. All I said was that a coach should train their kids instead of having kids cross compete on 3 teams. Especially on lower division such as level 1 and 2. If they new kids to the sport shouldnt they learn now...if not when will they learn? And if they are not taught in June when will they be taught? The summer is for these children to learn new skills. Wouldnt flying be a new skill?

Now if it was mid winter and some one was injured and there was no one else to step in then yes having a child step in would be needed in order to compete. But its summer most gyms are getting their teams ready there is no need for all of this.

I thought this board was for anyone to come on here and say anything they felt. I have had friends come to me and have been upset that there were so many kids that were small like you said on senior teams flying but if they say something to the coaches the coaches dismiss them and basically tell them they can be replaced.

I definitely agree about teaching athletes in your gym instead of relying on crossovers. Just think what would happen if one of those crossovers were injured or left the program, 3 teams would be affected! Yikes! Seems risky to put so much on one kid. Also seems like a quick way to burn someone out on cheer in general.

 I don't know if they are or not but they can be medium all-girl.

#SMALL/MEDIUM/LARGE SPLITS - NEW!!!! For Senior Level 5 Only

Event producers will split the Senior Level 5 division into "Small" and/or "Medium" and/or "Large" divisions when there are at least two teams that will ultimately be registered in each respective division. The designation of "Small", "Medium" and "Large" divisions must

follow the team sizes below:

Small = 5 - 20 members

Medium = 21 - 30 members

Large = 31 - 36 members

An event producer must keep teams of 21 - 36 members in "Large" division, unless there are enough teams to split 2 teams each into "Medium" and "Large."

NOTE: For Worlds qualifying divisions at an event where Worlds bids will be awarded, an event producer may leave Senior Level 5 divisions split regardless of the number of teams competing in them.

OC all stars has a Senior 1 I believe and they are very good.

PCM has two Senior 1's. One is large and one is small. However, from what I hear they are crossing their kids over from their Senior 3 team who are over qualified for a Senior 1 to of course maximize their score sheets.

Fierce has a Senior 1 have never seen them though so not sure how they are.

I have heard that Cheerforce Diamondz is going co ed this year. They have a lot of new kids this year so I think they will be completely different from the Diamondz we are used to seeing.

Cant wait to see VCA this year and OC Senior Black.

Is OC Sr. 1 large or small? Im pretty sure PCM is not crossing over their Sr 3's to Sr 1, that just does not make sense at all. There are very few cross over's in all of the gyms anyways. Cant wait to see Cheerforce (old Diamonds). Does anyone know the team name?
