I completely agree with Magic Coach. I personally wouldn't tape our competitor and put it on YouTube but if they put our video up...whatever. Not to mention routines change from comp to comp so I don't even think you are going to have a huge upper hand by by studying the video. You more just get a sense of the team and what they are able to do. Plus...you should feel flattered if they are worried enough about your program to tape their routines & put them on facebook.

competitions are public events: if you go out and perform your routine publicly anyways, why should it matter if it's on youtube? if you're worried about "scouting," coaches can easily walk in to the comp and do so. I really think people getting upset about videos being posted is just people making a big deal out of nothing. Besides, there really isn't any way to police that.

Also, about all the girls quitting - that could happen even without the video being on youtube. Sometimes things go wrong, that's life, and you as coaches should be the ones to comfort them. Just saying!

Okay first off, didn't that team come in second out of two at this competition? Why would anyone want to copy your routine? I think the person who posted it was simply putting it out there because people were discussing the competition on a discussion board- GET OVER IT. You, as a coach (IF you are one) bring your team to a PUBLIC event and then your video is posted and its a problem? FYI My childs team competed in a Senior 2 team from OC and I bought the video which includes ALL of level ones and twos and IF I wanted to I would post it online or share it with ANYONE I wanted to. Your attack is un called for. I read the post you made on the other thread and to tell someone to remove something is dumb. It is called a competition honey, if your team cant compete at that level don't compete, then cry about your video being up. If I had it I would post it and just might when it comes in the mail because you are making such an issue of it. Act like a coach, train your kids to learn from a bad performance instead of trying to hide it, AND GET OVER IT! ENOUGH SAID! Any Questions?

no True true! It is just sad when someone comes on a discussion board where people ask for videos and updates, they post it. Then here comes someone whos team had a bad performance to cry about it being posted. ERGH.... okay I am done with it, just sayin!

Is that because they don't want other gyms looking at them right? I thought most gyms would be along those same rules. I want to have any edge I can as a gym owner to win, and to protect my kids from anything. Like one of my members did get sick on the floor by Monday it was all over the school she didnt sign up again after that.

Are you talking about the girl from CCSW who threw up during the competition in San Jose this last January? If so, that's too bad she took it so badly...

wow ocmomof3, who said anything about copying a routine? my question was "shouldn't it be up to that team if they want it posted" why are we talking about first place second place third place, I didn't talk about where my teams placed and thats not the point. If your coach said don't post any of your routines would you post it, or do what your coach said. I am just asking? Call me crazy I just thought, oh I don't know maybe it should be that team. You their personal choice.
By the way I thought all teams did are great job, All Teams.
Next time I won't ask, I guess this isnt the place to talk about our thoughts

the only flaw is all the crazy level 5 teams that have such a following and have their routines posted without their say whether fall or stick.. its just a part of the cheer world and i know how it feels to have material stolen or even one upped but its all part of life, you cant control other actions but you can make your wishes known

U Started your thoughts on the other thread where the viseo was actually posted:

"Can you take our routine off of you tube, our team had a very bad day. They work hard and it just wasn't their day...you should have put up day 1 if you must put it up."

You can tell your team all you want not to post videos, but when you are at a public event ANYONE can post any routine. As they should- not everyone can be at these competitions and choose to ask for updates and videos.

This is a board for thoughts and that is why people are here posting their thoughts. If you want my thought, as talented as your kids probably are, it is too late in the season for mistakes like that and then have everyone posting things on the link to the video (which I watched) saying bad things to the person who put it up. Your athletes were posting on that link and it made your gym look bad.

I am sure all teams will be in Vegas and we will all see the routines again. Hope you have a good day.

Reallyy?!? I'm sorry, but for me, this all comes down to intent. What possible reason can you have for posting another gym's bad routine on YouTube, other than to make them look bad? Especially since I am pretty sure no parent, coach, or gym owner is posting their own bad routines on YouTube for the rest of us to 'learn" from.  With that being said, how little integrity must it take to post something like that, knowing you are making children the target of your actions?

I guess I just don't understand it.

And the whole "scouting" argument is ridiculous. How about you go ask your local high school football coach how much of their "scouting" involves posting other team's games on the internet. They video-tape their opponents, review them with their teams in private, and move on. All-Star Cheer doesn't scout, they exploit.

If you want to video tape a team, go for it. By all means, use the video as an edge in competition, as a learning tool, as whatever you need to. But don't use it with the intent to harm and try to justify it.

As a parent, I will say this.... posting those types of videos is absolutely no different than allowing our athletes to walk around a competition telling teams how horrible they are. It sad to me that as adults we would send that kind of message to children.

I understand the explanation of "competing at a public event" but that does not give anyone the right to post online for the entire world to see. It is completely different to record and/or purchase a DVD from the venue to watch in the privacy of your home/gym with your friends, family and teammates.

Is it okay then for me to post pictures of your daughter, anywhere on the internet, without your consent?

um..not the same thing....you go around filming peoples daughters at random....you will prolly get in trouble.  When we sign waivers for our kids to compete...there is an understood reasonable assumption of loss of privacy.  If people are so upset by it....do not put your kids up on a huge stage with noise, smoke, lights, fans etc....seriously

My Gym rules state, NO posting of videos, period! If I can find it... they are in trouble. I cant stop other gym parents from filming video of our teams, but I can stop them from posting them! If another gym wants to see our routines to study, just buy the video at the comp! As for other gym parents posting them on You Tube, I did not give permission, nor did my parents give permission. I have had to hunt them down and ask for removal.

What is the disclaimer...... The views expressed in this post are the views of the speaker and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies of OC Allstars.  That being said, if you are part of OC Allstars, please watch how you represent us.  If you are going to say something unkind, or just plain stupid, could you at least do what half of the other people do and pretend you are from a different program or use an anonymous name?

biggringood one Dana, but I have not said anything stupid. I do not need to pretend I am from a different gym. I am honestly expressing my views as a parent, as I have the right to do so.
