And everyone on the team is SO happy for Cory as well. I am so impressed with how much he has improved with day one (haha..wow).
For someone who has a double full (ill use Bryan as an example) and a backhandspring (Cory as an example).. I would say that they probably work just as hard. But some people have a few years on others, and they deserve the recognition just as much as the next person.
Bryan started out with a backhandspring (way back when) and has worked himself up to where he is now. So I'm sure Cory can do that as well.
I am on both sides of this topic. There are just 2 ways to go and both of them have their ups-and-downs.
dont guys get discounts because they help move mats build floors and set up tumble traks and stuff like that...i think the girls should be able to agree to coming in and doing all that stuff...for example, lex was at focus that one day...and nikki and chaz helped set up camp more than some of the guys did, they were there for the whole day helping out were some of the guys left half way through...
i don't think that discounts in general are a bad thing. If certain athletes are having a hard time paying for the tuition but are dedicated and work hard and are willing to do tasks around the gym or teach some youth classes than that should help them pay their tuition. We've had people who were very dedicated but couldn't afford it, do that, and i'm glad that they were able to be in the program. However, i don't like the idea of skill discounts just for tumbling. I wouldn't want to be out on the floor or in practice thinking that the person next to me didn't have to pay as much and that they were therefore more wanted by the program than me. Or that they were worth more just because of the skills they had in tumbling. Like it was mentioned before...what about stunitng? or what about a really amazing jumper or someone who was really sharp or good at dancing? Scholarships make sense in college, but for all star cheer it doesn't seem fair to let more skilled memebers pay less just because of their level in tumbling.
I think its okay if they need some financial help in order to be on the team, but thats different than giving each person a price tag based on their tumbling skills.
