New clothes and more members  won't necessarily make the gym or the team better. I beleive it is really sad to lose another small gym that was beginning to
make a name for themselves.  West Coast acquisition of Platinum All
Stars may look good on paper, but we will see what happens as time moves
forward; sometimes bigger is not better. Remember with  acquisition, usually comes a rate hike, and new pages of rules.  It's a shame when a gym has
become "commercial"  when in the rules state if a member is sick, she/he
must attend practice unless she/he has a medical note.  When did the gym
replace a parent's good sense of judgment toward their child's health.
Somewhere its been forgotten who paying for who.

I personally will not to pay for a service that will dictate to me if my child is
sick, she is going to be replaced, at my cost, and I must have a medical
note. Can it be we, the parents, or they, the gym,  have forgotten this type of activity is for fun?  Yes, we want towin, but first we want our children to have fun and learn how to work well as a team.  If the kids are not happy they won't want to come to practice because then it becomes a job and then the parents won't be happy. Then the word will spread from one parent to another, from one girl to another and soon people and cheerleaders will think twice about trying out at West Coast. So maybe as these club merge to get bigger and it more about the winning and their name (and money) we should take the "cheer" out of cheerleading.

Well from one member of the WC family we are excited about the merge and Cheerdawgs is not total incorrect things will be different a bigger gym with 2 or 3 spring floors, 2 tumble trak and a trampolin (gotta cost more). One thing  for sure is that everything is changing and only time will tell how the changes go.  Lets hope that in this case bigger will be better.  One thing I can tell you  WC has a great group of parents and maybe some are afraid of the change, but I am sure they will come to embrace it.  Hopefully neither WC or PAS will lose any members.  Only time will tell.

Honestly I think the merge sounds like a great idea.. two small gyms with the same vision. Cheerdawgs you're right new uniforms don't make you better, but sometimes when you add more to the coaching staff it's exactly what the girls/boys need. And from what I can remember West Coast has no co-ed teams and Platinum does so that's another step up. I think as long as the owners do their best to not change their small gym feel, the merge will be a success. And on the whole sick at practice situation, I think it's right. My only policy with my daughter is if she can't go to school, she can't go to practice. If she can go to school, I see no problem with her watching practice with a blanket in case any changes are made to their routine. I've never seen anyone be "replaced" over a cold so I'm not sure why you think it's such a big deal.

Cheerdawgs- It is funny to me when looking at other threads you were one of the first ones to come on this board and announce the merge.... Hmmm perhaps you are a member of one of the gyms. so let me take it here, how bout you open your packet you got yesterday and take a look at the prices? As for West Coast All Stars- our prices are a total of 2 dollars more than we are paying this year.. rate hike? Hmmm I guess if you consider 2 bucks a rate hike. Maybe down the line it might get more expensive, but highly doubt it. If we are staying at the same price, and getting new uniforms, and a new gym, I think that is pretty good. Not to mention we will now be the 4th largest gym in CA. So please don't start drama, no one wants to hear it.

As for bring sick. West Coast All Stars do understand when an athlete is sick. However, some kids miss practice for other reasons then simply say they were sick to keep their spot. Well coming from another parent- it is highly annoying when you have your child at practice when they are supposed to be and because another child wants to attend a birthday party or simply doesnt want to come that day. Cheerleading is a team like not all other sports, and without all members there it is very difficult to practice, and we all know that. We are teaching our children responsibility. When they are grown and working they cant call out sick because they want to go to a birthday party right? Ok then!

Some people embrace changes different ways. Guess you don't take it well. O well you win some you lose some. I hope you reconsider and think about it as a whole, and if you choose to stay good luck to you and your athlete. If you are concerned maybe you should take your concerns to the owners, and speak to them, and maybe everyone will be clear.

I think the cattyness is a horrible way to start off the merge.. just my opinion. this just became public and no doubt some people are little back and forth on the issue. let people say what they need to say and think about what they need to think about. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and their own decision. Obviously when it comes to a merge there are plenty of things to take into consideration. Let's all calm down and give everyone time to think. :)

Yea to you Cheerfan2008.  Opinions are opinions and that is what is mostly on this and all message boards. If you can't read an posted opinion without becoming catty stay off the message boards.  I do not believe anyone has bad mouth either gym. They are just positing their thoughts.   If WC and PAS can keep the things that made them good indivdually they will become a feared opponent.  GOOD LUCK TO BOTH GYMS AND THEIR MEMBERS DURING THIS MERGE.

I agree people should not be caddy which is exactly why I am saying please don't start drama. If your going to say an opinon that is one thing but truth is truth. Dont' come on here and say it will be more expensive, our kids can't be sick, etc.... It's just not true.

PAS/WCA are going to have an amazin year, full of change, and hopefully all for the better! Can't wait!

To my knowledge there will be a new location and the two owners are co-owning together as well as the coaching staff merging together.

WCA's current owner is the main owner with the PAS current owner being th co owner. All head coaches from PAS and WCA will remain. Both teams will move to a new location somewhere close to where they both are.

The new gym is about 10 minutes from WC current location - which is about 30-40 mins from PAS current gym

Hi everyone. I am one of the Owners of Platinum All-Stars. As I read through these posts, I am overjoyed to see that some people still do this for the kids. Being a small gym is great, but honestly, the industry is dominated (our area especially) by large gyms that have the talent pull to stack teams perfectly by ability and maximize routines. When you go to competitions and you see your kids nail a routine, are incredibly happy, and still not be as successful as they would have liked because they do not belong to a "Legacy" gym, how is that fair? How can we sit and allow our talent to become disheartened and either leave cheerleading all together OR leave for a "Mega" gym?

West Coast All-Stars and Platinum All-Stars are two AMAZING small programs that actually have what the other needs. By joining forces, we will now have the opportunity to step onto the local scene IN FORCE and make an International name for not just our gym but OUR KIDS!

I agree that Change Can Be Scary ONLY if you allow it to be. Change can be exciting! So, as adults (I'm assuming there are some adults writing these post) lets teach our kids to embrace new friends and challenge them to excel in their craft of cheer. And as cheerleaders, I, no WE, as the new West Coast Family encourage you to look beyond your fears and allow us to show you the best time of your life!

Coach Tony
