RE: New for 2011

I agree Cheergirl, I miss seeing the Magic colors and their teams I always loved their program and yes PCM is great and all but I know many other people including myself wish there was still a "Magic All Stars" and as for West Coast and Platinum, West Coast has really made a name for themselves this year that gets ruined next year just like Magic, they had a huge name on the west coast but now nobody knows who they are unless you are from california! Oh Well :/

CHEER FORCE HAS A ORANGE COUNTY GYM NOW? That's really unfortunete for OC all stars, Stealth, PCM Laguna because many athletes will choose Cheerforce's program next year. But Congrats Cheerforce!!

You also make a great point! Maybe Stingrays/Georgia All Stars have paved a new way.  You can merge to try to make things greater but if it doesn't work out maybe gyms should find a way to reclaim their identity.  Stingrays and Georgia split the season after they merged and both are doing better than ever!

Yes! Exactly! I did not like Stingrays and Georgia together either they are so much better as their own competitors. I really hope we see Magic All Stars again and I hope no other program combines! Don't these gyms like having other teams to compete against? I would much rather compete against 10 teams than 3 because they have all emerged?? Times are tough and I think that's a reason so many are merging but in the future when this economy changes I think they'll all want to be their own gym again and the further they take their merge the harder it will be to pull out, the kids will get so use to having a combined gym and it will just make it that much harder to explain to them that they are changing again. Let's hope OC, Stealth, Surf, CA or any of those gyms don't merge! Every gym is unique in their own way and I like unique it makes this sport so much more exciting.

Your right every gym is unique in their own way. Each gym has their own logo/colors/chants and it does make it more exciting. When you combine you lose your uniqueness

I was also sad when I found Magic was merging they had become one of those gyms you looked forward to seeing at every competition. There routines were fun/cute and their uniforms were always colorful and different every year you always heard people say "Yay magic is at this comp" i know our gym and athletes did. If i lived closer we would of chosen that gym but I do admit that some of their pacific coast magic teams are fun to watch but I don't see the Magic in them and i've watched magic since my daughter started 4 years ago

Congratulations to West Coast and Platinum I hope it works out for these two great programs

Cheerforce O.C. (Santa Ana) is going to have the same coaches and run by the same people as Stealth has had in the past. Basically Stealth style with a different name and location. Personally, I dont think many athletes will choose Cheerforce over O.C. & PCM Laguna. I think the lower levels at those locations top them by far. I like Cheerforce and I wish them luck at their new location.

Call me crazy but I got the complete opposite from the PC/Magic merger confuse Before they merged i had no clue who magic even was other than their senior 5 team. At the end of the day NO other team stood out in my mind campaired to others. Now that they have combined I love every single one of their teams. From the cute little tiny 1's to the senior 5 every team stands out to me at competitions.

Not sure how i feel out the CFOC thing hmm I love love love stealth and they were really making a name for themselves. I loves their style and their routines were always so creative. I know they didn't merge with cheerforce and will still be around but i dont think it will be the same since those coaches are now with cheerforce. But who know their new cheer director is GREAT and probably has great things in store for that program.

noI agree it is really sad to lose another small gym that was beginning to
make a name for themselves.  West Coast acquisition of Platinum All
Stars may look good on paper, but we will see what happens as time moves
forward; sometimes bigger is not better. Already with this acquisition,
comes a rate hike, and new pages of rules.  It's a shame when a gym has
become "commercial"  when in the rules state if a member is sick, she/he
must attend practice unless she/he has a medical note.  When did the gym
replace a parent's good sense of judgment toward their child's health.
Somewhere its been forgotten who paying for who.

I will not  pay for a service that will dictate to me if my child is
sick, she is going to be replaced, at my cost, and I must have a medical
note.  Remember, new clothes and more members  won't necessarily make
the gym or the team better.  Can it be we, the parents, or they, the
gym,  have forgotten this type of activity is for fun?  Yes, we want to
win, but first we want our children to have fun and learn how to work
well as a team.  If the kids are not having fun,  I guess we should take
the "cheer" out of cheerleading.

I think this not something new, most gyms have something similar and it's usually written in the contract to deal with chronic problems if that's not you then you'll be fine.  We all know what it's like to have people missing when they shouldn't and sometimes it's the same person over and over again.

I really believe gym owners make decisions based on what they believe is best for their gym and the kids.  Yes cheer is fun and it should be but you probably wouldn't want to pay for someone to just entertain your kid either.  Allstar cheer is competitive not just for fun.  I hope you find some peace in speaking with your owner about your specific concerns.

Your right. the PCM teams do stand out this year and Magic was pretty much well known for only their Small Sr 5 team but I still love Magic and PC being their own gyms just like west coast and platinum being their own gyms I like variety and uniqueness and I just don't see that anymore that's just my opinion

I'm not from either of these gyms. But while I agree that bigger is not always better I do believe that the ever-changing dynamics of all star cheer in southern california (or nation wide if you follow other states) is forcing many smaller/medium sized gyms to consider making changes they would not ordinarily make, such as merging or submitting. So many other gyms have done it, giving themselves the opportunity to combine athletic skills and coaching resources. I do understand that some families view it as unnecessary or maybe don't quite understand why this keeps happening. But maybe these gyms have no other option....or better maybe they view this as a wonderful opportunity to do something greater for their own families. Some changes are made in an effort to be proactive...some are reactive. But better to make a change than to stand by and do nothing which is tantamount to sticking one's head in the sand. If some of these gyms don't make some kind of move they may be forced to make a change that no one wants to see, i.e. fading into nonexistence. Families won't pay for mediocricy or "just fun" any more. Those days are long gone. If a gym doesn't have the resources to make a sustantial change they should consider all options and if merging is the best one that works for them, so be it. Many smaller gyms have "just enough" talent, "just enough" staff, make "just enough" money to cover overhead...but rarely enough to make that one great move that will push them to the forefront. Oh, let's not forget about the yearly loss of local talent to big dawg gyms and the occasional new gym, which depletes talent pools on the regular. (Not hating just real talk here.) Sometimes the battle becomes to big to fight alone so gyms begin to join forces. It's hard to accept but then again all things evolve. I'm the parent of two and yes they have a blast at their gym! But they are also there to work, learn about commitment and dedication as wellas teamwork... good sportsmanship and healthy competition. I'm sure we all know that not every child who is sick is required to bring a doctor's note, even though it is so written. I've only seen a note requested when an athlete demonstrates a chronic absenteeism probem and has little regard for the most critical practices right before a competition. These types of changes are happening every where. Fasten you seatbelts moms and dads cause it's gonna be a long ride for many regions of the United States.

Let's see where these mergers/acquisitions/"joined forces" take these gyms (i.e stealth/cf, wc/platinum, and others to come I'm sure). From my point of view, every time there's a change it forces every gym to take stock of what they have, which is good thing for the consumer. It's a back-door way of forcing gyms to raise the bar. I may not always be ready for the them but I'm all for it if it means that something positive can possibly come out of it. We shall see...!

Good Luck West Coast / Platinum! I'm looking forward to seeing your new product next season.

My only request to gym owners?....Leave the consumer a variety of options. I will scream bloody murder if we are narrowed to 1 or 2 gyms choices. THAT, dear people, will not be good for any of us.

Well if I understood correctly West Coast Is Keeping Thier Name and their colors.. just new uniforms. And I think PCM is even better then the separate PC and Magic.

I loved both Pacific Coast and Magic and I don't know why they merged, but PCM is awesome!  It looks like it was a great decision.

wink I argree with JustaCheerKid,  Many gym's have something similar in place. I know our gym has had for years and it does help with chronic problems. Change is sometimes hard but can be good... Good Luck to both clubs. I hope it works out for both of you!
