Officials grabbed them as they were walking off the floor. They rolled up their sleeves as they were done and they got nabbed. It was soo sad. They had two great performances.

It reminds me of that movie "Stick it!" The Bra strap was showing deduction. The girls must have felt horrible! So sad. It should be about their performance not about a hair tie UNDER a sleeve. I'm sorry...That is just so ridiculous...

This might be the most stupid deduction that I have ever heard of. I don't think cheerleaders can continue to exist without a pony tail tie around their wrist.
Ear rings. Fine. Belly button rings. Fine.
But a pony tail holder? And NCA officials were waiting at the edge of the mat to "nab" them?

Seriously?
I agree. Pretty lame. I hope they checked the wrists of every competitor from every team.

wow - that is wrong -- couldn't they contest it -- I wouldn't think you could deduct points after the performance, unless the penalty judge saw them on the floor and asked for verification. If so, dude has great eyes!
yea i remember last year before we went on stage at Dallas NCA and one of the local comps at NCA in Sac they told us before we went on that we couldnt have anything on our wrists even hair ties or it would be a deduction, some girls were having to go run and get scissors for those string bracelets to cut them off, it was pretty crazy!

OMG I had no idea that happened! Well then...I guess they were robbed!
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!!!!!!!! Seriously, were they afraid they were going to stick their foot through the pony tail holder during tumbling and get hurt?!

Even without the deduction, they would not have won, but they would have finished second instead of third.
Years ago when my daughter was in Pop Warner cheer, there was an assistant coach who checked the girls for all the illegal things before competing - jewelry, nail polish, etc. No matter how many times they were told not to have these things, you'd be amazed at what was found, including from my daughter!!
This whole safety deduction confused me, so I decided to go straight to the source. I emailed Justin Carrier, VP of NCA and asked about it. Here is his response:
"The athlete had on actual bracelets--not metal--but by all means it was jewelry. This was in addition to the hair bands she had on her other wrist. There were 2 girls. One had 6 friendship bracelets and one had 1 hair tie. Les Stella looked at both girls. (And a hair tie is a bracelet once it's on your wrist)."
So it was more than what we were led to believe and makes more sense to me now.
