How is your team coping with the recession

We are a level 5 World's team who is trying to get to competitons to earn a World's bid. Most of our team members have to pay their own tuition and comp fees and these out of town competitions are a real hardship on them.We tried fundraising and getting scholarships, but most people are hit also and money is tight. We would like to know how other teams are managing. If you have any suggestions, please let us know

colllect cans and bottles at the gym, collect empty printer ink containers and try the cash for gold fundraisers. We did it for our baseball team. They pay people a check for gold and silver jewelry and the gym or your team gets 10% of what they pay out. If they pay out $8000 you get $800. I suggested these because selling things is a pain in the backside. Also try the QSP fundraiser. people go online order magazines (or renew) and it is a 40% payback. So $100 worth of magazines will net you $40. Good luck!

If your club can get a non profit tax ID number.....lots of businesses in town will donate because they can write it off....several of us raised several thousand this year that way.....some businesses set aside in their budget for non profit donations and like doing it for local youth....just sharing:)))

Priceline.com for savings on hotel stays. I'm usually a stickler for staying where everyone else stays but these days I pinch pennies where I can. It usually works out though because friends will usually gamble the same so we'll end up together anyway.

...and that's "gamble" as in taking the chance using Priceline, not slot machine. LOL
