Unfortunately Varsity this year has decided that triple toe back does not count in the jump section of their scoring system. They put it in their standing tumbling section. Doesn't make much sense to me since a toe back has always been a level 5 skill, and triple toe back should be higher. Are they just "eliminating" this skill on their own? The frustrating thing is that all the companies are having different scoring systems, some VERY different from each other. Once again, we are having to change our routines from competition to competition. Hopefully one day we will all figure this out.
I just wish that when they made this scoring rubric that they would have made it more detailed. I don't think consistency is going to be achieved when the rubric is so broad. I liked the spirit sports grid from last season. They should have used something like that. It was much more effective. For ex: (this is not EXACTLY how it was, but something along these lines) - Level 5 - JUMPS out of 10 points. 9.2 - 9.5 jump variety and majority team performs 1 jumps to tuck 9.5 - 9.8 jump variety and majority team performs 2 jumps to tuck 9.8 - 10.0 jump variety and majority team performs 3 jumps to tuck ... ... and I believe you could even score a .1 over if you did something "elite." This makes more sense. Difficulty and execution come into play. So if majority of my team did a sloppy 3 jumps to tuck, or it was off timing, then at least the lowest score, we could receive was a 9.8. And if "Team A all stars" performed a 2 jumps to tuck, but only twelve did it, but they were on time and executed well, then they would recieve the higher score in the second bracket, receiving a 9.8. THIS makes sense. Not explaining, not having proof, and just giving a score doesn't allow for a fair result across the board. I wish they would have used this rubric. I loved it. And like I said that's not exactly how it went but it was along those lines. There was room for execution to out-do difficulty, but also put difficulty where it should have been - at the top.

I completely agree. I think that Varsity's guidelines this year are way too broad and open to all types of interpretation. I loved Spirit Sports rubric because you knew exactly what was expected. I heard that this year they are going by Varsity's rubric too. I think it makes teams just go safe, and frankly, pretty boring.
