I attended today! Let me say that it has been along time since I was just a spectator, I am used to spending my whole day going back and forth to the warm up room. I learned alot today.

Team Viewing Area : Please dont abuse this! If you were given the option of sitting closer please be respectful and sit down, you can all see from that close, no one else can see behind you if you stay standing, the stage was lifted for that reason.

Age Appropriate Choreography : If your child is a Tiny, Mini or Youth or even Junior age cheerleader please make your dance according to this age, an excessive amount of booty bumping and facials that made me look away due to the nature of them is just wrong. Having energy is one thing, being vulgar is another. Keep it PG or G for that matter. =)

Gym Representation: You represent your gym , no matter if you are a parent, sibling or athlete. Please react to situations like your owner is watching. Name calling, rolling eyes, running in front of the stage during a performance distracting the judges is not a good thing. Someone from another program is probably watching and may get the wrong idea about your whole program .

Placements: Are just that, it's not the end of the world if things did not go your way today. Maybe another team was stronger. It is that easy. They did not intentionally cheat. If your coaches are telling you that and the other team did not have a legality deduction, then maybe its time to beef up your routine or look for a program that is upfront when they do not place where they wanted to. Coaches educate yourself. That is why we all received the new scoring systems and info from the USASF. If you did not follow them or attack the score sheet then its not the kids fault, don't make them feel like it is. Remember its all about percentages, if you are not in the majority you are going to get a minority score, its that simple. Parents ask the right questions. Instead of saying why did team A win, why don't you ask why did we not place higher, you may be surprised with the response.

Teams I enjoyed :

Youth 1:

Nor Cal Elite - I believe it was the first Nor Cal Youth 1 team, they had two =) , these little ladies have spunk and the routine is great ! Can't wait to see it build!

Junior 1 :
Premier - Great Pyramid! Lovely tumbling and great pointed toes in everything, nice jumps and the girls seem genuinely happy on the floor!

Junior 3 :

Aerials - Always fun to watch, those little girls can stunt! So creative, really enjoyed it out of all performances of the day! Amazing work Coaches and Kids and Parents!

Senior 2 :

SWAT - They had fast powerful tumbling and fast paced routine that kept me watching. Nicely done guys!

Parent Team:

VEA- How fun was that and some awesomely tight motions! I loved it!

Senior 4 :

Rebels - Great moving pyramid!

Senior Coed 3 :

Central Coast Shockwaves - It was amazing for this early in the year! Great fun skills with awesome stunt technique.

Senior Coed 5 :

NCE - Lots of talents, loved the low inside stretch that flipped up! Stellar!

All and all I had a great day! Cant wait for next weekend!

Nicole, I have to agree W/you! I was just talking about how long it has been since I just went and watched a competition as a spectator & actually be able to relax a bit, watch the talent, see & catch up with old/new friends.

I heard a few people talk about how some of the choreography didn't seem age appropriate & I'm w/you on that one.I think as coaches we need to remember the age of the athletes on the team(s) we are working with.

So many great teams that performed today. Congrats to all those that received bids to US Finals and to all the Grand Champions. Lots of talent this season and I can't wait to see the progression as the season continues.

Thank you that is why they have hip hop teams.  If you are NOT a hip hop team PLEASE control the booty bumping.  It should NOT be in cheer ever.  We went to see the competition my niece was supposed to compete but injury kept her out we all enjoyed watching the Norcal team, the fever team, and we saw one dance team they went on early and they were really good too.  That is where the shaking and popping should be done.

Yep, they definitely have cross overs.

Are they the only gym with crossovers this season??   It was so nice to have a break from Alex's negative posts, but I can see things are back to normal, sadly.  I doubt there are as many crossovers as you would like to think Alex, why not just ask them directly instead of posting as if you know?

How was that negative? Alex just answered my question.

How does Alex know?    And if you state something as a fact, post details (like how many)?   I remember Alex has a history of posting opinions as fact.

I have no idea if they have crossovers.  Personally I am not a fan of them and wish USASF would put a ban on them or some limit.  But I am guessing you will see numerous gyms with them this season.  I would like to see something on schedules, maybe little asteriks showing how many athletes are on multiple teams and their levels.

Well, I don't think whoever Alex is was trying to be negative, maybe they are just misinformed, or even thought they saw crossovers from watching the video. I thought I saw some, which is why I asked in the first place.

Maybe you could tell if they do, MyTake, your previous posts seem to hint you know a lot about Nor Cal.

My issue with crossovers is long and I will spare you all :) BUT I will say I just don't like them between regular level 5 and open 5 because it is suppose to be a building block, I feel like a lot of teams will try to add a bunch of their true level 5's so they can have the fulls and then have the rest of the team doing layouts.

No matter what level, I don't want to watch the same kids compete 4 different times!

I think you will see more crossovers then most years with the economy. We can already see that teams are smaller in size this year.

Annon, I have been a fan of NorCal  from their beginning, yes.   Not just NorCal, my daughter has friends who cheer for other gyms we enjoy watching too.  I just dont think someone should post an answer without backing it up.   Maybe someone from the gym will shed some light.  It would be interesting to hear from other gyms too.

There are kids on both Open 5 and Coed 5. The "crossovers" are not truly on the coed 5 team, they all are there to fill the team at the time. There are currently people waiting to be put on Phoenix with the skill required to do so. Therefore; to answer the question, yes there are crossovers (currently 5 to be exact). Phoenix does not ensure you a spot unless you have a double, that was made clear at tryouts this past summer.

So what's the differance? Those 9 practice and perform with both teams and Phoenix looked amazing so those 9 are doing well at that level.  Will they moved to Phoenix and taken off the Open 5 at some point?
