From what I remember... Starstruck, Cheer experience, all star elite all have new uniforms. Im guessing alpha and omega is getting new uniforms too. They were in shorts and t- shirt. Gymstars may have had new unis too
Penalties killed a bunch of the teams yesterday. Will there ever be a time when we parents are going to be able to see the actual scoresheets? Or just to see a recap of results before penalties were assessed? I would really like to see how the judges looked at the routines as a whole before all the deductions. Then we could see what team was trying to put the best routine on the floor. There were so many dropped stunts, tumbling touch outs that it looked like many of the coaches classified their teams to high. Don't get me wrong, I know it is way early in the year but the tumbling was the tell tell sign and I am only basing my observation on the tumbling.
It was a really exciting day for my girl. Her gym placed really well at this event and she was excited to actually compete. She sure does enjoy cheer.
Today's Comp recap my opinion only!! You could tell that this was the 1st competition for almost all the teams. BUT overall it was a good competition. A lot of dropped stunts and teams that didn't execute at the top of their levels... SKILL WISE that is. You can certainly tell that there will be a lot of talented squads this season as the year goes on:) GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP BY ALL TEAMS!! The most disappointing level for me personally was level 4. I thought it would be a stronger level. All Star elite was great though. Not taking away from the other squads, just was expecting so much more with this level. Again, it IS early in the season.
Some of the gyms that stood out to me personally: 1. Edge all stars looked great accross the board. I've never seen them compete before, but heard great things about them and they did well at this competition. 2. All star elite looked strong and good 3. Cheer experiene did awesome in level 3. I didn't see their other team 4. all the mini and tiny teams were fun to watch 5. alpha and omega looked good too. A few dropped stunts but they will be a strong team 6. Cheer Odyssey, I don't remember much about them, But they seemed to do well 7. Star struck did good 8. Cheergyms and Motions were decent. You always expect them to just blow everyone out of the water, but it wasn't the case. Saying this in a positive way from both sides. Meaning, it is good to see that other gyms are stepping up and giving them a run for their money. AND that I have the utmost respect for this orginzation and they are just a good program all around. Level 3 Pyramids won the choreography award. Woo hoo
Jamz had a problem with the music equipment and it was extremely unprofessional and disappointing. But ALL the teams did great and rolled with it.
Awards were typical of Jamz as we watched their staff dance and parade around the stage. But it wasn't as long as it usually is. You have to always appreciate how much the kids love their staff. So as a parent, you just endure the talent show lol.
Overall this was a good 1st comp and I can hardly wait to see some of the other gyms this season to see what they bring to the floor. Royals, UCF,POWER, Aerials, Swat,Norcal,Fever,One athletics
Thanks Simply a Cheermom!
For the 1st competition of the season I am so proud of all of our EDGE teams. The girls have all worked so hard and were excited to just be at competition. I look forward to a successful season for our EDGE Gym!
Loved watching all the teams and it was great to see all the competitors cheer each other on.
Good luck to everyone this season!

Okay. So I spent many years in the all start cheer world and I was thoroughly disappointed with "marketing schemes" I witnessed yesterday. I went to support a young family relative at the competition and was so shocked to see a group of individuals from a certain organization (mind you who WERENT even competing) polluting everyones car with recruitment flyers. They were all over the parking lot and on everyones cars! I never have had anything negative of this organization, however, I found it so tacky to do that especially because this was an all star competition. Obviously the athletes there already belonged to another team.
I was wondering if anyone else sees this as an issue. Could you imagine if every team did this? We would go back to our cars and have 45 flyers on the window
Is there anything we can do? Can competition companies ban this?
I AGREE with you totally! That is just very unprofessional and disrepectful Let your performances and reputation in the cheer industry speak for itself! NOT OK AT ALL! I wouldn't join a gym that does this and I would spread the word to others not to as well. My suggestion would be to report them to the NCAA, if they are part of this cheer "ethics" program they have going in norcal. It should be addressed.
I think you may be making a bigger deal out of this than needs be.
Flyers on cars are an acceptable form of maketing for ones business. Its just not done that much any more because of the expense involved. Until the city, county, or State goverance want to handle this one you will continue To see this type of marketing campaign.
It's really not a big deal in my world. If my daughter wants to jump to another gym than she will. And right now based on the behaviors on this board and facebook It looks like we will be changing gyms soon.
We, at UCF, would like to set the record straight in regards to the paper flyers that were left on the cars at the UOP competition.
FACTS:
The All-Star competition ended with the awards ceremony at 2:30 pm.
The flyers were handed out at 5:30 6:00 pm we waited to hand out of flyers out of respect to the All-Star programs that attended in the morning. Most of the parking lot was cleared of the All-Star community.
The flyers were directed to YOUTH and HIGH SCHOOL cheerleaders
EXACT WORDING -Great for Youth & High School Cheerleaders who want to continue on improving their cheer skills until their next season begins.
We have the utmost respect for EVERY All Star program. We are not here to recruit cheerleaders from other all-star programs. This was not the intent of this marketing effort. Our intent is to give the cheerleaders that do not have anymore competitive cheer, between now and March, something to do. We were only advertising for our half-year teams.
If you have anymore questions about our efforts please call the gym at 916-690-8050. We will be more than happy to talk to you directly.

We enjoyed watching all of the performances yesterday.Everyone is off to a great start. We are excited to see everyone on the 15th; it will be an amazing competition!
We, at UCF, would like to set the record straight in regards to the paper flyers that were left on the cars at the UOP competition.

Thanks for the clarification Jill and Nicole.
But here is what I observed.
1. My family left the All-Star competition and located on my vehicle were not 1 but 2 flyers, prior to 5 pm
2. My vehicle had my All-Star programs name clearly posted on the back and side windows, no one could have missed it!
3. I am pretty sure that you know my family, so you would know that I don't have a "youth program or high school" child
It would appear to me and this is JMO, that any gym owner that uses this type of "marketing scheme", shows that you really don't have the utmost respect for EVERY All-Star program. You say you are not here to recruit cheerleaders from other All-Star programs, but one has wonder truly what your intent was!
If you have any questions im sure you still have my number.
Thank you! Lisa McKinney

Especially, since this gym is part of the NCAA and they are trying to endorse better relationships amongst the gyms. This was not a good representation. We were at the competition to watch and we too witnessed them on cars before the awards ceremony even began. I have to think, that this program would be a little put off as well if the shoe was on the other foot. I think that when you do things as owners and coaches, you should think about how you would perceive things. Just because it is your right to do certain things, doesn't always make it the right thing to do. Again, not that they don't have the right, just that it wasn't the right thing to do. You have to give respect to get respect and I hope that other gyms will learn from this incident. Let your routines and reputation speak for your gym.
They already stated that the flyers that were placed on people's cars did not say anything about All-Star cheerleaders they were marketing a different clientele. If the ad wasn't addressing your personal situation, do what the rest of us do when we receive different advertisement. Throw it away and be done.
You all, or few of you, need to let it go. So much drama. Mine to your gyms and wish everyone the best of luck. Nothing more.
First comp of the season for Odyssey and I couldn't be prouder of our athletes and the performances they put on the floor. Each team had a few (or more) rocky moments but overall I couldn't have asked for more. I can't speak for every division but I do know that 4.2 was pretty deep, and definitely illustrated how dynamic the division can be with the level split.
Fierce literally blew me away with their faced paced choreography and transitions, they definitely had some killer difficulty in their routine and am sooooooo excited to see their routine develop over the next few months. LOVED their center pyramid flyer with the super clean double and a few other flyers who performed very pretty kick singles. This team will definitely keep my girls on their toes and look forward to their next meeting =)
PS...I LOVE their owners and coaches, so friendly, thanks for all the motivation throughout the day!
All Star Elite Scene Stealers from the looks of it this squad is fully taking advantage of the level 2 tumbling bracket as they possess what looks to be full squad tumbling...BRAVO on such an achievement. True to their name, they definitely know how to put on a show and had a majority of their team killing it with facials. SUPER SUPER strong stunting and most certainly had a routine that I will be watching all season long. Karen, thank u so much for your comments and I can't wait to see you and your teams again at our next comp.
Cheer Odyssey Cosmos So this is my second time coach a few of these girls and I literally couldn't have asked for a better group of athletes. I'm so happy with all you have accomplished and appreciate your willingness to add new skills and difficulty. We know what we have to do to keep pushing the difficulty and can't wait to see what you ladies accomplish over our time together. GREAT job saving that pyramid! love u all BIG TIME =) clap clap clap (lol). PS, congrats my grand champs!
Tracy, you are most certainly right. But I wouldn't say we're crazy, just responding to the discussion. However, they did clarify and we should've left it at that.
Its nice to get that first competition out of the way, and those teams with the first comp jitters will work them out next time for sure!
I have a general question, I dont mean to direct it at any particular gym, but if the cheer shoe fits maybe someone can answer it. For gyms that have a Sr Level 4 team AND a Sr Level 4.2 team, how many athletes are on both? I think it would help us understand how this division is being used.
From what I remember... Starstruck, Cheer experience, all star elite all have new uniforms. Im guessing alpha and omega is getting new uniforms too. They were in shorts and t- shirt. Gymstars may have had new unis too
Can't forget Cal Spirit Elite.
Thank you for remebering Cal Spirit Elite. I love our new uniforms!
This is in response to tracy, maybe you did not receive a flyer because maybe you were the one, or new the people putting the flyers on the car. Why would this person HalieMcMOM, reply to UCF's post saying that her car was clearly marked with her ALL-STAR gym name and she had two flyers on her window. She was just replying to an earlier post, proving the fact that she was targeted. As her post stated, that they know her and her family and it sounds like she use to cheer for UCF. If UCF did not want any drama, then why were not one but two flyers placed on her window? Who is starting the drama?
if the flyer does not concern you, or interest you then disregard it and get on with your life.
It should not matter if there were 2 or even 1,000 flyers on your car.
Get over it.
We're all apart of this Alliance, and should act like it, and not hop on here and BASH on other allstar teams for trying to find more ways to get the numbers in their gym higher.
If you're happy where you are then stay there.
but you shouldn't knock down other people for trying to better their business by giving out flyers for the pop warner and high school girls. Stop getting on here and drawing more attention and drama to you and your all star gym.
