I'm not going to mention names of the gym involved because those who are local to the area probably have heard this as well. I received an email that a gym located fairly close to two other gyms in NorCal, all the coaches left their program and took jobs at a highschool but are now recruiting from the very same gyms in their vicinity.... I wonder now what this gym will do for the season now that their coaches have left and what will the girls/parents do now that fees/uniforms etc have been paid and now they don't have a coaching staff, if I was a parent at this gym I would be pretty ticked off. Also I feel for the other two gym owners because to actively pursue their coaches and try to take them from their programs is kind of messed up IMO....why would you do that to not only fellow gym owners but to the kids that belong to their programs?
No matter what information is correct or incorrect... This is a example of why you have your employees sign a year to year contract, or some sort of contract.

California is a right to work state. A year contract means very little and is quite easy to get legally out of.
With their being little actual benefits and low salaries it is a hardship financially to continue coaching.
The love of coaching and the love for our athletes does not pay the bills. I know very few coaches that only coach. Most have multiple jobs. This makes it extremely hard with the demands of coaches especially in competition season.
It is sad but it is the reality of life especially for adult coaches who do not life at home with mom and dad to pay the bills.
Until their is more money in coaching the industry will continue to lose qualified and loving coaches.

True. Also even if they were legally obligated, would you want a coach there that doesnt want to be there? It would probably be better for the gym to let the coach (or coaches) go. Since there are no details about the situation posted its hard to tell. Most of the coaches we have known throughout the years have had full-time jobs somewhere else, the others have had part-time jobs.

If ALL of the coaches left, there would be a legitimate reason why, especially with the way the economy is.
At what point do you get positive, you really don't know about business and what is binding. Also, you will always throw the gym under the bus. You have some serious mental problems.

Thanks for trying to start much needed drama to the cheer world. Keep the name calling to yourself and don't make assumptions I have been in this field for a very long time. I also am highly aware of my legal rights.
I have no idea the gyms involved but I think the original poster was trying to keep this as "generic" as possible, thus the confusion. I believe what they were trying to say is that all the coaches left an all-star gym and starting coaching at local high schools. These same coaches are trying to recruit people from the other gyms close by...I'm assuming for their high school teams?

Haven't we all, and paid the price. But you are a negative individual who tries to start up problems everytime you comment. I just got tired of listening to all of your unprofessional opinions. It is not drama, it is business.

California is not a right to work state, Arizona is. Wrong again!!

How do you recruit from an All Star gym in the summer when High School try-outs are in April/May? Even better question: What coach would leave an all-star gym to coach High School? Too much drama in high school and no support, (except from parents and family of course) Coaches are beat up in most high schools by red tape and completely unknowledgeable admininstration, sad but so true
RhinestoneCrown - normally I'm on the same page as you, but this story seems to be missing some details.
I am quite aware that all-star gyms take on high school programs for one reason or another. There are times when the schools start approaching the area's competitive gyms because NO ONE wants to work for the tiny little stipend the school is willing to pay for a full year of work and deal with all the PARENT drama.
I live in an area similar to where you describe and haven't seen any staff changes in the all star gyms in town. The all star staff is in place and paying attention to there teams just as they have always done.
Perhaps, the someone that sent you the email was trying to stir up some _____?
I have gone down the list. I cannot think of any gyms in Northern California that went through these changes. This did not happen with any that I new of. I know some coaches do both but I have Never heard of this? Who is it? Also which gym are you with.
Codismom you are correct I was being generic for a reason. If the email was false I didnt want to throw anyone under the bus, unfortunately the email I did receive seems to be true, this particular gym was actively TRYING to recruit coaches from a few other gyms as their coaches did leave and a good amount of their athletes have withdrawn and moved to other gyms as a result. Its sad, the economy is beyond horrible and these parents are now starting fresh with a new gym and paying for things they paid their original gym for. I wish all gyms the best of luck, but also think the gym in question should refund uniform and comp fees since the girls dont have coaches and obviously cant compete if their coaches quit and now cant be replaced.
This is horrible, I do know of coaches at HS level and competative level here in Elk Grove that coach my daughter and they have told the girls they need to quit their other gym and cheer at "their" competative gym instead. NOW THAT to me is wrong! I have never cheered so I don't know if this is the kind of drama that goes on but I feel an adult should act like one. I would have her quit as I feel those coaches are doing this for the wrong reason. Had I known I would have told my daughter to play softball in high school like I did!
Question 1. These "other" gyms, are they All Star gyms? 2. If yes to question #1,... is this issue in Northern California, and do you know if any of the gyms are members of the NCAA?
If they are an All Star gym and they are members of the NCAA, then I suggest to get in touch with one of the board members.
This is the kind of crap that gives cheerleading a bad name because the adults forget about the kids!!!!
