GSSA Spirit Nationals venue physical layout...

I understand that the layout of the venue changed from last year.  I was not pleased to see that the spectators were only allowed to be directly under the judges podium 100 feet from the floor or at the sides of the floor.  I took up photography as a hobby to make the competitions a little more tolerable and neither of those locations combined with the poor lighting were conducive to getting decent shots.

Why was the space between the floor and the judges podium off limits?  The floor was sufficiently high as was the judges podium that they could have easily allowed standing spectators behind where the sound system and the coaches were.

I think it's purposely done so you purchase the pictures from their hired photographers.

My 70-200mm vr f/2.8 has suited all cheer competition layouts for the past couple of years.  And a camera that can handle a high ISO.

Good luck this is one tough sport to photograph.

And then of course there was the backdrop. It was really distracting- even in the professional photographs.

I have to agree about fans watching from the side. It's really hard to watch and truly appreciate the performance from a side view.
