Ok, Ok- What is the largest competition that is held in the western part of the USA?
In the past we have had to go to NCA Dallas and farther points east to attend anything large...and I'm talking 3-4 stages in different areas of a convention center performing at once...that big!
Im pretty sure that Spirit Sports in Palm Springs is the biggest comp on the west coast, the divisions are huge and has by far the most talented programs out of any competition this side of dallas... BUT theres still only one stage, two if you count the stage that the high school teams perform on
people that run it are too close to some west coast programs they go out to dinner togther and drinks during the weekend of the competetion. i know we all have friends in the industry but thats a little too close for my tase. also i found alot of problems with thier scoring system. i had to personally point out mistakes in and on score sheets. palm springs is expensive hotels food fees to much to gamble on. imo
I love spirit sports, I also think that the American Showcase is one of the largest as well, both competitions have two floors going on most of the day, I love the atmosphere of SS but my kids love being near disney for the Showcase.

Regardless of peoples friendships and who knows who this is the most professional and well run competition on the west coast. James knows what hes doing and as far as the scoring system he gets the best judges and the scores and placements are always right on. It is the most acurate scoring system ive seen (better than NCA and UCA in my opinion)

I Agree. It's almost the feeling of a major national.Lots of energy.totally dig it.
Spirit Sports is an amazing competition in my book. Everything is ran smoothly and I like that about them. James and his crew do a great job running this comp.

Spirit Sports isn't my fave either. I have to agree about the scoring. They seem to award teams that throw more difficulty even if they execute it poorly, or don't land it at all or have awful form. It's also seems that CA teams are favored. JMO
Also, the competition ends so late Sunday night. It's an exhausting and expensive weekend. The other thing is that this is a really loud competition. Really loud music between routines and in the awards room. I usually miss a lot of the competition because I spend a lot of the time outside or in the team room to get away from all the noise. The only thing I really like about this competition it is that so many teams go.

so does that mean that every comp company favors CA since they win almost every division at every competition out here. I hear this argument all the time and it is a little rediculous. Teams that do speed camp do not get favored at spirit sports, these teams know how to hit the score sheet completely so they do well. Speed camp teaches stunts that will max out on EVERY score sheet not just Spirit Sports. The teams that do well there tend to do well at most competitions.
I have been to this competition the past few years and i believe every CA team that has won deserved to win. Well with the exception of 1 team one year lol But i have never seen them be bias to CA with the judging. CA is an amazing program and when they win the deserve it. However, the announcers are always very very bias when announcing CA teams over other team and with their comments about CA team before and after performances.
who was talking about CA. I had to personally show them thier errors on the score sheets in tumbling and stunting and tabulation. At the end of the day they run a business and you cant tell me money doesnt talk you briing more teams they will tend to try to make you happy. also who said they was an argument i thought it was a disscussion. we all win and lose but I would rather not have to check over thier math and explain thier own score sheet to them.
Yeah, I would have to agree about Spirit Sports...seems like some other comps have got smaller, such as USA. It used to be a lot bigger. Even AC "Grand" here in Vegas used to be a lot bigger. None though had multiple stages...
NCA is a neat event to attend...but it just seems that western based clubs CAN'T win first in Texas, at least not very often. May I even say, the South period. There needs to be a large competition in California....maybe near Disneyland or ?
I will say the big comps feel like an "experience" rather than an event for the teams, owners, parents.
As a side note, I have read other opinions on the net that Worlds has outgrown its venue and that it really should move around the country (preferably getting it out of the south) which isn't necessarily how I feel. Just read it!
I wasn't arguing. Just simply stating my opinion that Spirit Sports seems to favor CA - exactly as CaliCheerWatcher noticed as well. The enthusiasm when announcing their teams, the comments after they perform, and the enthusiasm announcing when they win. Yes, I do believe that competitions favor the programs that bring a ton of teams, and on a couple of occasions over attending this competition the last 4 or 5 years that I've thought a couple of CA teams didn't deserve the win, but got it because their other 8 or 9 teams also took 1st place. I'm not bashing CA - they're a great program - this has more to do with Spirit Sports.
Spirit Sports used to be my favorite competition when they were in San Diego at the Convention Center. What a beautiful location with lots to see and do within walking distance!! We always had fun there.
I do like the team rooms in Palm Springs! And the outside table areas are nice too.
