Hi All! My name is Alison Warren and I am one of the coaches and co creator for EDGE Allstars here in Elk Grove. I just want to thank some of the few teams (and their coaches) for welcoming our new team with open arms and support. Annette and I built this team with the pasion for cheer and the love for our girls who were moving on to high school's that were not competitive. This was a BIG step for us. We both went into it knowing we would here the negativity. With that said, I want to comment on the post made yesterday regarding EDGE trying to recruit. Im not sure who passed along this negative information to you, Annette and I have no intensions of recruiting. We are very excited for next years season and the growth in our gym, but our one and only priority right now is our senior team. They ARE the reason we are here! Thank you again to all the great allstar gyms out there!! Annette and I are so happy to see our girls go out and do what they love best!! See you all soon!

You may have just learned your first lesson in the all star world, sweetie. It's going to important that you do not take advantage of using your cheerleaders as a liaison for your marketing campaign. It did happen yesterday and more than just one time. Several parents and cheerleaders has lots to say and could quote the script from which your cheerleaders presented your new Elk Grove program. It doesn't take very long for the all star cheerleading community to spread what other gyms do and for what reasons they are doing it. good luck with your senior team and I hope they enjoyed their first step into allstars. it must be quite different then pop warner football.
Is it really necessary to post this on the message board? If you have a problem with what another owner is doing, then as you being an owner call them directly and speak with them. There is no need for you to make a discussion between the two gyms on a message. Both gyms are neighbors and know each other, talk it out privately.
LOVED all of cheergyms new uniforms. They're flashy and new, but still classic, clean, and complimentary to the average build of a female athlete. Kudos to who ever came up with the design, its definitely one to be proud of.
moreover...after watching some vids, LOVED Motions senior coed 3, makes me want to go back to the drawing boards or revamp our routine LOL.
the results for this event is out online. can someone explain how a team because a cheer champion and grand champion at this event? I am so confused. I first thought it might come down to overall score and the highest score would get the highest honors, but this is not the case. Help someone help!

I love the cosmos!! I've only seen vids so far this season. Can not wait to see them in person in January!

I took your advice and mentioned the situation to my gym. The staff said that they were well aware of the situation, because more than one parent has told them and it will discussed with the new gym. I have friends on the team of the 3rd neighboring gym and some of my friends were saying the same thing. It happened to more than one gym.
This example is just something that I have a strong view point on and it's my view point ONLY!!! Not my gym owner or anyone elses. I do have to say the parents that were approach by a younger person from the gym were quite surprised and are still taking about it.
If your teams perform well on the competition floor, kids - families - will come to your gym. All gyms needs to take care of business in their gyms and not worry about what is else were.

Really just sounds like you are trying to start DRAMA!
I personally didn't see or hear any teams recruiting or passing out flyers as many teams have done in the past. Every team has to start somewhere as I am sure your gym had to start off somewhere also. Lets remember here that these are kids we are talking about and they should all have pride in what they do, it gives them self esteem!
1. Our Jr 5 did not have the penalty that was reversed. It was our Sr 3 Open team.
A deduction of 14 points was given to us for doing a two man stunt. However two mans are legal if you don't cradel from them at this level, which we don't. After the awards were announced we got our score sheets to find out we were dinged for something that in fact was legal. I then went to the owner of GSSA to dispute this. She then took me and the penalty judge to a room so we could discuss the penalty. After I presented the rule and explained the grip, she called a USASF official to confirm what I was saying. After the phone call, she confirmed what I said was correct and then reviewed the video to verify. After it was verified the penalty was removed.
I then made two suggestions so that this would not happen to any other team in the future.
A. Have the penalty judge in the warm-up room to check all stunts. This would allow any coach to know prior to a team performing that something was illegal.
B. If the penalty judge were to judge during the performance that coaches be notified prior to awards that there was an illegal infraction and that if there is to be any challenges to that call it could be done and corrected prior to awards.
The owner of GSSA has listened and will make one of those changes at the next event in San Jose.
2. The actual Highest SR division socre went to the Senior International Team from POWER. I did ask how it was determined for level champions and was told it was all of the judges that picked the winner and not highest score. This was because there are two pannels of judges and one may score higher than the other, thus overall judges pick.
John, As always we appreciate you coming on here to clear up misunderstandings. We all appreciate you and all that you do in the cheer industry to make things better. It is so important to make sure our girls and guys receive fair judging for what they put on the floor. There are so many times that owners and coaches don't stand up for or even question the penalties. They just accept what was told. I love how you handle things. You go to the source with your concerns, but also make suggestions to keep this situation from happening again. I applaud you for making this right for your girls. They deserved the win and should be rewarded for their performance.
Congratulations POWER
Side note: Cheergyms I love your uniforms. LOVE THEM! LOVE THEM! classic cheergyms style but i miss your BIG WHITE BOWS Also Morton, Danny and the cheergyms crew, we appreciate all you do in this industry as well.
Unfortunately, I felt that Saturday's competition was lacking in real discipline. Other than the One Level 6 and Power Open International 5 a majority of the routines were not clean and frankly, not real exciting. Even Ones Sr. Small 5 had a stunt and Pyramid come down. Powers Small Sr 5 was disastrous after the stunting incident. One of the cleanest routines was the All-Star Elite Junior 4 and it was no wonder they won Junior Grand Champions even though Power Junior 5, who also had a stunt come down, scored higher.
In all the competition was disappointing and that may stem more from the fact that you could not see the routines from the chairs due to the throngs of people standing in front of the stage. I sorely missed the bleachers from last year.
I know all of these girls work very hard and that it is still early and they do their best when on the stage. I feel that if the promoters would provide a more disciplined atmosphere that the performers might perform with a littel more intensity. I also think that the judging issue with the Power Sr 3 Open is evident of the lack of discipline.

I think you meant Nor Cal Elite's Jr Level 4 (I don't think Allstar Elite has one). They (NCE) won Jr Division Champs and GSSA Grand Champs, congrats to them. I agree about the amount of falls we saw in numerous routines. I was wondering if it had to do with the higher level teams having to perform earlier than usual? Typically they perform in the afternoon, not morning. And I agree 100% about the seating; you really can't see with everyone walking around during the performances. I hope with enough complaints GSSA and other comps will go back to bleachers.
I'm glad the issue of how to deal with penalties BEFORE awards are announced is being addressed (thank you John)!
I believe the lack of bleachers is a result of an issue with the venue and not the competition company. I heard that the convention center is not allowing use of the bleachers due to an accident and possibility of a lawsuit.
I too was surprised by the number of technical errors especially in stunting. What worries me more is the number of iffy tumbling passes thrown. I am almost always horrified with the number of kids throwing tumbling skills that are not solid. You can often see the look of surprise on the kids face when they actually hit the skill.
I find the tumbling to be especially dangerous as at least a flier has a group that will (hopefully) catch her.
As a parent I would not allow my daughter to be pushed (or have her push a coach to let her) put a tumbling skill on the floor that she is less than confident with.
I have always heard about a general coaching rule of 90% hit ratio before allowing a skill in a routine. Doesn't seem like many are hitting anywhere near this percentage.
I also did not see many accurately executed or pretty kick fulls/ kick doubles. Anyone else agree?
How did Power's International Team have the Highest score of the day in the Sr. Open division when the International Open Cheer division is a seperate division from Sr. Open division according to USASF/IASF?

We look forward to the next competiton.
